I knew a shitstorm was brewing but I had no idea who it would land on. Nintendo it would seem is today's recipient. Oh joy! I began today like any other checking Dtoid and was I in for a shock.

Nintendo of America gave a somewhat direct statement on Xenogears/Monado and several other aforementioned titles were not being considered for localization at the moment. This didn't bother in the slightest because I had already played them and they are really nothing special in my opinion but I knew most had not so I began to have some idea on what might transpire.

To the comments aka 'What the derp?'

They were too funny. What couldv'e been a mature discussion on the topic quickly erupted into a shortbus full of window-lickers. I believe the term "Pretendo" has a whole new meaning to me now. What was funny at the beginning had grown to become almost embarassing to read. Jim Sterling was not included in the comments at all. To my surprise. Quite refreshing it was.

But enough of that nonsense...

The real question here is why should NoA bring these supposedly 'hardcore' *shudder* games to the Wii when there is no evidence to support it? Time and time again titles of this caliber have graced the Wii only to garner much hype and praise from the start but when the time came to purchase the game most simply waited until it was lowered in price, bought used, pirated or just didn't buy it because of random excuses.

Why should Nintendo of America use what limited resources they have because of a promise of purchase made by online petitioners?

These are questions that have easy answers.

These words are not my own but I feel that they express in words more than I can ever manage to.

"Everyone acts like the Wii and the HD consoles were given fair, even shares of initial third party support, therefore "proving" the Wii can't support hardcore content when the same content that sells on the 360 or PS3 bombs on the Wii. But that's completely untrue.

The "hardcore" situation would have been much different had the Wii had Resident Evil 5 or Metal Gear Solid 4, had it had Mass Effect or Modern Warfare, had it had Assassin's Creed or Final Fantasy XIII.

Similarly, the 360 or PS3 wouldn't have done so well had they been forced to rely on Deadly Creatures or MadWorld, Mushroom Men or Umbrella Chronicles, The Conduit or Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.

It's not a fair comparison at all. All of these negative developer perceptions are built on a foundation of misconceptions and faulty logic.

To be fair, I think we've passed the point of no return in terms of image, but that doesn't mean developers can continue to blame the Wii or Nintendo. Rather than saying, "Nintendo and the Wii do not support us or our content", they should say, "We let our biases and ignorance cloud our initial judgment, so we now best develop on the two HD consoles and forget the vast opportunities we missed had we merged our sophisticated content with a platform that had the widest potential audience".

No console is intrinsically "hardcore", it's whatever console developers collectively decide to support with their best content. The Wii would have been capable of supporting hardcore content had the developers been there from the start.

(And granted, while Nintendo shouldn't have to and isn't obligated, it would have been in their best interest to have nipped this in the bud from the beginning, doing whatever they can to start that perpetual engine of "hardcore" content with third parties.)"

[b]Do you consider yourself a hardcore gamer? Chances are your not.Do you use FAQs?
Use unlimited continues, play your games on easier difficulties or use codes or cheating devices. If you have
done any of the following, you just aren't hardcore.I know I have and the sad thing is most gamers have.I
remember back in the day it was something you boasted about being able to finish a game without
dying. Now it seems that time has gone away due to our sick and perverted love of all things HD.Hardcore
used to be about skill now it is a hollow shell of its once illustrious past. The term has loss all meaning and
now refers to games that could'nt hold a candle to games of that era.

Weaksauce. That is now the state of gaming today.A generation of gamers who rather take the easy way
out of a situation.I shake my head in confusion.Where did we go wrong? On the subject of which, Wii
exactly, I do not blame Nintendo it goes far deeper than that. The blame should be placed on gamers or
should I say the ones that currently support the HD console war.You begged and pleaded to your beloved
console makers that you wanted all this raw horsepower but you never asked for better games just more of
the same. And what so we get just more of the same.It used to be all about gameplay, now the primary
focus of gamers is the new shiny pretty very empty.WTF! Did I miss a memo or something?I am now a firm
believer in Nintendo's philosophy.I think we should all take a step back before we should any further. My
graphics have evolved but gameplay is still in the stoneage.Speaking of which I have converted to all things
retro, especially my games.I feel that we as well since no new games offer the raw and true grit of the old
school.

I offer this blog up as a challenge to all gamers young and old.Don't let hardcore become a over used
fanboy stereotype and play all your games to 11.
