Beem

Beem, a Windows Phone app that enables users to tap into the Digitally Imported (www.di.fm) music site, has been updated to 1.3. Billed as being developed to become the 'best possible DI.FM client on Windows Phone' by developer MVP Den Delimarsky, the app has seen praise from us earlier in the year when we included it in our Lumia 900 must-have apps list.

Re-watch this morning’s Windows 8 and Surface announcements

Live Webcasts

In case you were at work or preoccupied, you can now go back and re-watch the Windows 8 and Surface RT demonstrations and announcements from this morning. That’s the good news.

The bad news is this is still in Silverlight and you have to manually rewind back to the 1:17:45 mark (or 3:33:00 for Surface). And sorry for those scroll bars but you can blame Microsoft for that one. Hopefully Microsoft will have a YouTube version up later in the day for the rest of you living in a non-Silverlight world aka probably most of you. (You can also watch it on Microsoft's site here).

Watch after the break...Thanks, Marco300, for the tip

AT&T discontinues U-verse app for Windows Phone 7

Filed under:

uverse

We don’t happen to use AT&T’s U-verse service, which allows users to download and watch some big name TV shows on their Widnows Phone. The service is part of the whole U-verse package from AT&T and while the app only had some mediocre reviews, it was still a nice option if you had AT&T’s internet and TV package at home. And even if you didn’t have their services, you could still opt in for $9.99 a month.

But it looks like it wasn’t meant to last as AT&T is discontinuing the app effective November 20th for reasons unspecified. Perhaps it is because they have a Windows Phone version coming out and they don’t want to support both or maybe not many people used it—we’ll never know.

Bing web searches now showing Windows 8 apps

Bing Search

In reaction to Windows 8 going official today and Surface RT tablets coming tomorrow, Microsoft has also made some changes to what Bing shows for results.

The adjustment people will notice on their new Windows 8 devices is that searches for general terms like “travel” will now show Windows 8 Store results too with a convenient download button to the Store. Of course those of you with Windows Phones should already know this behavior when you do searches on your phone. Just another neat example of how Microsoft can leverage Bing for a better Windows experience.

Speaking of Windows Phone, some of those earlier announced changes to the Store for searching are also slowly taking effect of which you can read about here. Thanks, Dustin P., for the tip!

If you like moody Microsoft Surface trailers you’ll love this one

Filed under:

When Surface was first shown off it came with a dark and moody trailer but since then we haven’t seen anything like that.

Microsoft has just released a new commercial in a very similar style. Out with the dancing and in with the future tech theme.

The music sounds like the same used in the original trailer “Surface by Microsoft” and it has the same brooding tone. We’re not sure if this is mass market appeal here but will certainly sate the tech crowd who seem more switched on by these segments.

Jessica Alba with Nokia Lumia 920

Jessica Alba has upgraded to the Lumia 920 and it appears as though she has gone with the red choice. We last looked at the model / actress when she was spotted sporting a cyan Lumia 900, so it seems she's been able to upgrade early, thanks to Nokia. It's clear to spot the new centred position for the headphone port, as well as the new Windows Phone logo being used.

We've seen Windows Phones in the hands of other celebrities, as well as being used in music videos and commercials, but it's good to see such a new handset handed out to those who could attract some attention.

Microsoft unveils new Windows website with a new look

WP Central

Now that Windows 8 is official, Microsoft is still going forward with the redesign and reimaging. Such is the case when you go to Windows.com or even their Blogs.Windows.com sites as both are showing a high-contrast look with the new logo.

We have to admit that we really like this new look. It’s bold, striking and of course it keeps in line with Microsoft’s Modern UI approach. Will it sell PCs? Not necessarily but Microsoft’s new look and image are key factors for consumers and we think they nailed it.

WP Central Nokia Lumia 820 to be priced at £379.99 in the UK

While we ramp up for the launch of Windows 8 next week there is still a fair few questions about pricing for Lumia devices.

Someone has spotted the Lumia 820 going for the sum of £379.99 on a system. As with all such pre-pricing, this could be fact or fiction as nothing has actually been revealed on pricing as yet.
