Our search to explore to culture of gaming development communities takes us to the city that DICE, Mojang, and Paradox Interactive call home.
Kewl! Come visit us in Norway next - Funcom, whales and oil :)
Go to Copenhagen, Denmark next. Home of IO, Playdead and some other indie-companies
This is a really great series. I never knew that Amnesia was Swedish.
Amazing new series, thank you Gamespot :)
Great show! I only missed Dungeonland! Although, Paradox is the publisher, but the devs are from Brazil, does that count?
Great episode! Can't wait to see more.
Wohoo! Go Sweden! :D
It might not be a case of the Stockholm syndrome, but when games kidnap your spare time and won't let you go (because they're so good and addictive) and you grow to like them nonetheless, I don't know what else to call it.
This is an awesome idea for a series, it's a fascinating look at game development and the cities where it happens. shaunmc you should totally do Montreal or some other Canadian cities...Edmonton, maybe?
Baudrillard85 We'll definitely do a Montreal episode at some point. Just a matter of when!
i love it i want to live in minecraft world sooooooooo bad
mine isss my lifeeeeee
Great show, guys... I miss Stockholm! If you do a Poland show, you know who to call haha
This was a good show, thanks for making it :)
great show! stockholm seems great...i will definitely visit this city in the years to come..
This series is like a travel show but with games in focus.
shaunmc Can you do Germany, Poland or Canada or maybe more American cities please?
Ensamheten shaunmc We have lots of cities we want to do! Montreal, Seattle, Los Angeles--there's quite a long list.
If you liked this you will probably also enjoy. The Minecraft documentary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBF2ugTzXqQ .
Stockholm seems like an awesome place to live.
superleggera If you're into high taxes, feminism and smug this is the place to be. I don't there is any city that can match us in these categories ;). People love taking pride in what others have achieved and we always think we are an inspiration to the world.
Ensamheten superleggera It's a beautiful city, but it was already pretty cold when we shot this in September that I can't imagine what the winters are like.
shaunmc we had the coldest summer/fall in like 30 years, it's usually a bit warmer. It's cold in the winter but every other year we don't even get any snow in stockholm so it's not as bad as siberia or the northern parts of scandinavia :P and in the summertime the sun barely sets, never ending daylight
shaunmc From Wikipedia (so you know it has to be true :P): "Despite its northern location, Stockholm has relatively mild weather compared to other locations at similar latitude, or even farther south." It's usually not much colder than -10 degrees Celsius (14 Fahrenheit) and although the temperature can sometimes get down to -20 degrees Celsius (-4 Fahrenheit) and be lots of snow and ice everywhere it's not bad and we get the whole spectrum of seasons, which is nice.
This was great bit, very interesting.
Really impressed! Great show! Thanks GS
Live in Sweden, Stockholm.
This video felt like something you would see on TV good job Gamespot, keep the good work up can't wait for the next episode!
Stockholm i mitt hjärta!
kingswede Uppsala i mitt hjärta :D!
Excellent show, this is why Gamespot is my fav site.
Awesome job and a great show! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next episode.
I really enjoyed that. It actually felt like a real tv show. Good work gamespot :)
To bad Paradox Interactive has had some horrible failures when it comes to publishing (Look no further than the buggy disaster that was Sword of the Stars II).
What a great episode!
Anatomimesteren
Yup, it was a great show of Stockholm Sweden. Didn't know the three devs were all based there.
I love my city. It was nice to see DICEs office from the inside. I see it everyday from the bus going to work.
ROBBAZ
Best place in the world, seriously.
tapper101 Not really. Greetings from Finland :D
snaketus tapper101 If (When?) we do an episode on Finland, it's gonna be tough for me to not make the entire episode centered around Future Crew. :p
But there's quite a few big name developers there, and an interesting story with the old guard of classic action games (Remedy) competing with the heavyweight newcomers of mobile with Rovio.
Stockholm looks cool, need to visit that place, shame on me I didn't living so close.
Anyone, next time come to Warsaw :) You got guys from Dead Island, CD Project, and few more.
Tak666 Yes! I love Warsaw! :3 I have friends there that I like to visit in the summers, and Polish is so beautiful! :) Although I've been robbed there on three separate occations.. but all cities have their share of low-lifes, after all.
Thanks Shaun! Really good video. I'm glad you made it.
This excellent show shows that several intriguing strategy games often come from Europe.
notch said that console gaming is for passing time, and for him PC gaming is real gaming, for me its the other way around, i like console gaming way more than PC gaming. (my opinion)
very good piece for sure. im american of swedish hertiage and this let me take some pride in that. Also hit right in the mark in the culture difference of console and pc markets.
is it just me ore does it seem like shaun is about to cry during the interview?
p4kman88 Naturally dry eyes. Combined with the cold, dry air in Stockholm and they look especially reddish.
shaunmc p4kman88 LOL! Super emotional. Combined with the sad, orphan kitten he saw on the street and he's especially weepy.
Chris_Watters shaunmc p4kman88 In all fairness, if you're judging based on how he appeared in the interviews with the guys from Paradox, we had just flown in that morning and we were about 24 hours behind on sleep. We were all a little ragged that day.
