We talk to lead designer James Russell about Total War: Rome II's epic scale and combined battlefields.
I hope there are modding tools and someone make "The Battle of Blackwater" from Game of Thrones. On that note just a whole conversion based on A Song of Ice and Fire would be so sweet.
Nnnnnice!!!
As a big fan of the last ROME game and a lover of ROME. I cant wait for this :) sounds awesome and I think hard before I say that :)
I WANT SEXUAL RIGHTS GRANTED TO MY GENERALS!
If only have women born into my kingdom I will make the following statement
"If only you had been born a man, what a Caesar you would have made"
Enough of politics. Let us pretend that you are a loving daughter, and I am a good father.
"How Far Will I Go For Rome" I will Grant An Old Custom!
?Grant them prima noctes. First night, when any common girl inhabiting their lands is married, our nobles shall have sexual rights to her on the night of her wedding.?
I will Lead With My Sword! If the Royal Jester will Be executed if is NOT Funny!
I will Salvage The Lands And Burn Their Crop's And Villages!
Just because they are making Rome 2 doesn't mean the developers are any different. They can screw this up easily. The difference between a good game and a great game is love and detail, which is only true if you don't apply it to money and business respectively.
At the end of the day though, I have high hopes too. I think too much is at stake for them to mess this up on a large scale, but I hope that they don't settle only to please fans. I hope they go above and beyond to make the game great. (And to add modding!)
I just hope the other factions have a wider variety of units instead of just warbands and slingers lol
I wonder if the Celts and Norse will be playable factions in this. I'm not too interested in the factions mentioned in this video (Romans, Greeks, Barbarians).
Also, I wonder how big the map will be. Will it include all of Europe and parts of North Africa?
Enough of the stupid Soap Opera video, just show us the fantastic Gaming Graphics !!!
This is too awesome. But yes, time to look at those video cards and ram...
AceBalls Know what you mean! Hope the game is already optimized when they release the game!
Epic At Long last.
That means Medieaval next gen is coming soon
Only thing that worries me is the talk of reducing Micro Management. I hope that doesn't mean more things being automanage. one thing I loved About Rome, was being able to build my settlements to my liking and purpose. Automgae would take the fun out of that.
Oh come on! We don't want pictures of the game! We want a gameplay video!!!!!!
roguewave2 Oh come on! We don't want gameplay videos of the game! We want the game!!!! ...see what I did there.
F"#$%#$% I can't wait, Rome TW was my favorite TW game, even today with Shogun 2. I'm preordering this game as soon as it's possible.
wonderfull
While I applaud another Rome game, The diplomacy either needs to be done properly or removed altogether. I will never forgive Sega for butchering the diplomacy on Empire.
Jimmygee123 Diplomacy was great in Rome. Also the not only does the trailer hint to it being a huge part in this game, but also this guy has confirmed it. So yeah. Be happy.
Who is that beautiful red headed assasin in the Rome II trailer?
the total war games + 3d person or fps gameplay == my dream
why there is no total war like this?
damnmyself Have you tried Mount & Blade?
acecs1989 yea
population was limited to 150 men (i think)
in total wars you can bring 2000 men or more
i like combination of strategy games and actions like Rise & Fall but that is too old :(
damnmyself to answer your qusestion...RTS
Rome 2 Total War. Game of the year, 2013. Mark my words.
I'm not hyped, I got full confidence this will be THE game.
Copianames That's what I expeced from NTW and ETW and STW2 and I was let down all three times. The first time CA has made a game I don't hate, since RTW and MTW2, was Fall of the Samurai.
Giglioroninomic I think this one's going to be very different! This is going to be EPIC!
Looking forward to this, I just logged into steam to check when i last played Shogun 2. 07.08.2011.. I hope this is a fucking hint u take if u see it developer. Im a fan of the series and bought the game, but its not good so im not playing it... In my opinion Rome and Medieval 1 or 2 are the best games empire brought guns wich sucked and one good thing to wich was "whole world map". Then they removed it for napoleon, and then they send us to japan and only japan?? maps are getting smaller and smaller??? Developers are you on LSD????
I'm getting chills jus thinking about it :D
its cooooool
Ever since they dropped the ball rushing Empire out of the door and releasing Napoleon not as DLC or expansion but as a stand alone game to over-exploit their fan-base, I really dont believe them... anymore.
Huge issues that were not really addressed from the earlly games (like the AI having the traits of a sicko on the diplomatic field) and the battles never being bigger than a few thousands at max (when marketed on the contrary) are still bugging me in these games...
I want to see actual gameplay and gamer feedback, then Ill decide if I want to invest my moneys into this... As I said, they lost my confidence, I wont pre-order or buy at lunch never again...
no_fear_in_hell I'd be happy to show you if I had the game. Got a time machine?
listen to 'Punic Nightmares I & II' by Dan Carlin to get a feel for this unimaginable bloodbath
There's no place like Rome... there's no place like Rome... there's no place like Rome...
Where is the showcase? All they showed us was a bunch of pictures with this dude blabbering on and on...so which part was the battle of carthage???
I like saying "Rome Total War" in a deep English accent ;obut anyway I hope this is mod-able like Rome 1
I want Medieval III total war, that would be epic :D
I don't know if I like this. He's sounding off all the issues I had with the mess of a game Empire Total War. Total War Shogun 2 fixed all those issues into a tight focused game. I would like to see more, but it looks like I'll need to wait for the reviews and let's plays.
You don't even have a game demo or game footage yet...and you start to talk about how great this game design is. I strongly feel more marketing rather than a well detail game production attitude. Anyway, I will still wait and see...if it is still the same ShiXXXT like before and just change the clothes and weapon features...no matter what you say...this game is not for me.
I came here for video of the battle they're talking about. I was somewhat disappoint, but still excited for the game :)
Pastafarian439 That's what I said. He was like "we're going to show you the battle of carthage!" and then all they showed us was drawings of boats. What a liar...
emperiox
exactly what they are Liars and scammers
I only play at the strategy level... the micro play (battlefields) I usually auto-resolve. I hope they do not destroy this part of the game, instead it should be explored more.
The battles are only eye-candy... the real strategy is on the campaign-map where you are a state leader instead of just a general.
andante79 You seriously could not have said that statement any more wrong than you did. If the battles are just "eye-candy" then go online with Shogun 2, or with Rome 2 when it comes out and try to win a few battles against people. Even playing a skirmish battle against an evenly matched AI that is on the hardest difficulty will probably kick your ass since you obviously have no experience fighting your own battles. The Total War series is lauded as one of the best ever not because of the chess-like campaign map lmao... it's because the battles, integrated with the campaign map, make for visceral, realistic and tactical combat experiences.
When all you do is auto-resolve you have no right to speak about a huge feature in the game that you choose to never use and ignore. You're less of a true Total War fan for auto-resolving your battles and playing not even half what the game has to offer. A cowardly and shameful display.
Entropy730 andante79 Are we not entitled to enjoy the "chess-like" campaign map? I have played both. I enjoy the campaign map because most of my battles take about 45 mins and sometimes I like the gratification of completing a full campaign in a few days as opposed to a whole month. Combat is excellent if you give it a chance but the game is 50/50, map and battles. Everyone should have the right to play the aspect that appeals to them most since they paid for the game. I am hopeful combat will be epic, but I also would prefer that they do not remove the Auto-Resolve from the game.
Sirrrus this is the wrong game for you then try civilization 5 might be your forte. For me if i feel like governing i play civilization 5, If i feel like playing real time strategic battles i play total war.
...What does he mean by "Fewer battles" and "Reducing Micromanagement" and focusing on reinforcing units and such? I cant describe my level excitement for ANYTHING total war, and hearing this guys words are seriously killing me, If they ruin this series... I will be giving up on strategy games.
i bay! Best Game
"reduce micromanagement" !?!? ah man. lame. i am disappoint already.
