Gravity Rush wins Game of the Year award, sequel teased

I'm of the view that Gravity Rush is, and remains, one of the best games on the PS Vita, and worth a play, regardless of what you think of it in the end. Jim might not have cared for it, but it seems whoever was in charge of handing out awards at TGS this year held a contrary opinion, because they named it Game of the Year.

That's reason enough for director Keiichi Toyama of Sony Studio Japan to celebrate on Twitter, but fans got an extra reason to be excited when he responded that he'd "do his best on the sequel." When pressed for more, he said that it was all a secret, but hey, with a GotY in hand, there's quite an incentive to try again. Consider Gravity Rush 2 practically confirmed.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

congrats Keiichi Toyama :P

though i would want another Siren game that is more scarier than Silent Hill or the old games.

or a remake of Forbidden Siren 2 would be nice :)
Awesome, I really loved it too. Being made Vita native will definitely help with some of the graphical glitches I found. Oh, and less enclosed environment missions, please.

And something else to look forward to:

Reposting because of resolution:

I felt the first game fell short of its potential but it was still a great game. A sequel which is given a proper development cycle could be very interesting.
Please drop the act. We know all of Jim's reviews are just trolling because Jim is a troll. Stop pretending he's a legitimate reviewer for the site. Everyone BUT Jim liked Gravity Rush because it's a good game.
MY game of the year:

Matt, everyone ever has the same opinions always.
Also, what the fuck is subjectivity?
Wow, I never got the game cause Jim said the controls were so finnicky :P
@originformeuser

They seem to be at first, but it goes pretty smoothly once you learn to set up your approaches, and realize that you can do fine adjustments to your direction and aim by tilting the Vita.
@Matt Welch
I don't like Gravity Rush.

Neeeext!

p.s.
@bodybreak
Brilliant =D
I am unable to describe just how happy this news makes me.
I really enjoyed Gravity Rush....right up until I started getting motion sickness from it. Which I found odd since I don't get motion sickness at all, though from what I found on Google I apparently wasn't the only one.

I really wanted to finish it but ultimately I couldn't and wound up trading it in. I'll give it another whirl if it ends up free on PS+, but I don't feel right paying for a game that, while enjoyable, makes me horribly nauseous.
Glad to hear it got the love is deserved. Don't own a Vita yet but when I do I'll make sure to pick this game up.
congrats and awsome. i cant wait.
orniletter: Do play video games that aren't from Nintendo?
Game was really good, so its nice to see it get the recognition.

Very happy to hear about a sequel.
Loved the crap out of Gravity Rush. This is freakin' excellent news.
I'm happy for this game. When I saw it streamed on the Dtoid twich channel I really liked it. Art style was pretty, great music, and an interesting gaming concept. If I had a Vita I'd have bought it.
F yeah! Just make the combat better.
Gravity Rush is pretty much as close to flawless as a game can be; so yeah, this makes me very happy. Now, if only we could get a second great (exclusive) Vita game... *sigh*
Jim doesn't like a game. It wins GOTY. I feel happy about this.
@Lord of the thunder: Yes, I have every single Sony console, including the PSP, but it happens that I enjoy Nintendo games the most.
I´m currently playing through the Metal Gear solid collection, after completing Portal 2 for the 10th (or so) time. My taste in Videogames is more diversiv than you might think.
As fun as it was, Gravity Rush isn't GotY by any standards.
I thought the game was good, plenty of potential, and had a pretty good story for a handheld. :)

I'l glad!
I played the demo at a store. The game seemed cool, but playing it on the tiny screen was kind of ass.
YEEEEESSSSSSS
I just wish they'd put her in All-Stars already, geez.
I love Gravity Rush, but this is still surprising. This game NEEDS a sequel.
Gravity Rush is over rated imho. It probably is the "best" Vita game, but that's not saying much.

It's a solid game, but it get's tedious and repetitive. All the "optional" missions are the same thing over and over with a step up in difficulty. The art was nice, and the physics were pretty solid, but the controls are not that stellar.

Sure you get use to it and you can control Kat like a boss, but then again you get use to Kid Icarus Uprising and can control Pit like a boss. That doesn't mean the controls are on point though.

GOTY ?? I hardly think so. GOTY to games is like Herpes to people now. Everyone has them.
Gravity Rush is the best and most original game I have played this year.
It was the first time I have wanted a platinum and I did! Also got all the trophies from the DLCs. :)
@KuebelR33: Uncharted is the best Vita game, and to emphasize how much that means, it's also the best portable game I've ever played.
Definitely GOTY deservedly... They really made a REALLY REALLY GOOD effort at making Physical gameplay part of the game in ONE TRY. Seriously... The physical control feels very solid compare to MAJORITY of the Wii games...

Gravity Rush deserves GOTY, and definitely a sequel.
@KuebelR33: You just described the main Mario franchise...

Gravity Rush is through a through a platformer that have heavy RPG element, and it's very very good.

I'd love to play the original.

(But somehow that piece of shit lollipop chainsaw is a 9/10)
Please be silent ctg867, have you even played Lollipop Chainsaw?
I tried to like this game. Really. But damn was it so boring in the most literal sense. The city felt so dead and the gravity gimmick just didn't stay intriguing nearly long enough to satiate that.
