AT&T Galaxy S II

A quick heads up that the fine folks in our AT&T Galaxy S II forums are reporting that the phone's Ice Cream Sandwich update is available again from the Samsung Kies software. The update briefly went live last week only to disappear again; AT&T says it was just testing things. But now it appears to be ready and willing.

So fire up Kies, and hit the link below to see what everyone else is seeing.

something tells me this isn't worth it. Have been running ShoStock2's ICS on the SGH-i777 since April with no issues. I'm sure this update mucks with the bootloader and everything else. Any of the non-root people who try this wanna chime in on how this is.

unglued94ta says:

Shostock2 ftw brother!

Btw try the sieyah (spelling) kernel

& Here I am still waiting on Sprint :/

spuddyboy says:

Me too :-\

Duality84 says:

so i'm reading now that my phone can't be updated because i'm on a mac, and the kies software won't allow firmware updates on the version i have...huge fail on Samsung's part

wade1974 says:

Now wait for the Skyrocket version

kwdog says:

Yeah, it's fricking annoying....

gdbjr says:

My first time upgrading a Samsung device. Very Appleish.

Only in the sense that there was a piece of software that updates a device with a new firmware.

tompro53 says:

If this is how I will have to update my epic 4G touch when or if I get ics I am officially done with Samsung since I don't have a computer.

garfnodie says:

Now just holding out for Sprint. Once ICS official is released for the Epic 4G Touch, the dev's can get the kernel source.

XavierMatt says:

Sucks that it won't be pushed OTA. Who is really going to go through all the hassle. Most people don't even know 4.0 exist let alone Kies.

This is the point. They don't want people to update and freak out that they're phone is so different. That and this wipes a lot of data...

Spazmonic says:

Lets go round 2. I got the update the other day and fried the phone completely. Got a replacement. Lets see if it happens again. I'm like the Honey Badger. Just Craazzzyyy

When is sprint ics suppose to drop

Chivasgoyo says:

Watch out guys.... My wife updated hers this morning and the only complaint she got was that screen shot mode does not work. If this is a must have option for you, do not update. Other than that..... Update away. I know I will when I get home.

tazman69 says:

I do not have ICS yet but I read elsewhere that screen shots are now Power Button & Volume Down as opposed to Home Button & Power Button. I can not verify it as I can not upgrade my phone since I have a Mac. Updates via Kies must be performed via Windows only. Fail on Samsung's part!! I need to find someone with a Windows computer to do my update. I use the screen shot A LOT so it would really bite if that functionality no longer works.

ninjito says:

Screenshot does work. Found out that the buttons have changed. You have to hold down the power and volume down button for about 1 second.

It still works. Hold power and volumes down for a few seconds.

kinster02 says:

Wow, the supposedly greatest Android phones, the Galaxy S series and it doesn't do OTA updates...I guess they really want to be like Apple. I guess I have stick with htc.

Normally updates are OTA.

Statusnone says:

I've had it since the "official" leak a couple of days ago and I'm not impressed. Thank God for SGSIII in a couple of days... Hopefully.

unglued94ta says:

The reason the original way to do screen shots went away is because ICS naturally supports them and the way you do it is volume down and power just like what has been stated above.

VDub2174 says:

Serious question:

I'm running an ICS ROM and I use power+home to take screen shots. Did it change with official updates?

rdsaicam says:

I will be very glad to help u out with this since i have the same issue with this the past 3days..

first of all dont expect the KIES to be helping u in downloading ICS FOR UR SAMSUNG GALAXY S2.. I BELIEVE THE KIES U R TRYING TO DOWNLOAD IS VERSION 1.3 USING A MAC WITH OSX 10.7.4

JUST DONT INSTALL KIES COZ IT WONT HELP U COZ IT JUST GONNA TELL U "THE DEVICE IS NOT SUPPORTED IN UPGRADING SYSTEM VIA KIES"

USE ANY WINDOWS LAPTOP OR DESKTOP COMPUTER.

1. GO TO www.samsung.com
2. Search for KIES
3. Click the BIG KIES LOGO around middle right side of the window
4. Click DOWNLOAD KIES for WINDOWS
5. ACCEPT AND GO ON WITH ALL THE STEPS(INSTALLATION WIZARD)
6 ONCE KIES IS INSTALLED, OPEN IT AND PLUG IN THE USB CABLE TO UR LAPTOP CONNECTED TO YOUR PHONE (***NOTE! MAKE SURE U R USING THE RIGHT USB CABLE)
7. WAIT FOR IT TO BE CONNECTED
8. YOU WILL BE TOLD ABOUT THE NEWEST FIRMWARE UPDATE
9. GO ON WITH THE UPDATE AND MAKE SURE DONT TURN OFF YOUR PHONE OR DO ANYTHING TO IT..
10. FOLLOW ALL THE INSTALLATION PROCESS

ENJOY YOUR NEW ICS ANDROID VERSION!

mu5icpimp says:

Thanks for this! Worked like a charm!

netposer says:

I used Kies yesterday afternoon (June 24) to update my SG2 and it only took a total of 20 minutes. All is working fine.

noscamiam says:

Ditto for me - grabbed it Sunday afternoon. Bigger time consumer is remembering how I had everything organized on my screens. The screen shot does work as noted above -- volume down and power key pressed together for a second or two.

Speaking of screenshots - the upgrade will wipe your screens (at least it did mine) so you may want to do some screenshots pre-installation if you want to put your screens back exactly as they were. If you don't care or have a photographic memory please disregard:)

Jacques says:

No love for SII Skyrocket owners. :(

jojones44 says:

so can I get it on my samsung galaxy s 2 skyrocket?

unglued94ta says:

No. The update is only for the phones with Exynos processors

Chewie23 says:

Yeah, what Jacques and Jojones44 said.

mu5icpimp says:

Updated my phone yesterday, and haven't had any problems yet. I love ICS!!!
