  • Not a good episode of the show.

This episode was very shallow and boring, mostly because of Peter's father.
  • Okay episode but Francis is the biggest reason why my score is low

Peter, though, hopes to have the kind of bonding that was missing from his childhood, and when all his plans fail to work out, he resorts to kidnapping the Pope. This "Family Guy" episode was just alright but it really could've done better. Francis is the biggest reason why my score is really low though. I just hated how Francis was being WAY too religious in this episode and how he was treating the family like crap especially Peter. On the other hand, there were very funny parts in this episode that saved my score from being any lower such as the cutaway with Peter falling out of the plane, Francis lecturing Chris about using the restroom, Francis reading the Holy Bible to Stewie to put him to sleep, The "Sanford & Son" cutaway (some of you probably have never heard of that show since it is an old 70s sitcom), Peter capturing the Pope, the Pope's line "It's like you said Peter.... I'm the Freakin' Pope", and the very ending with the whole family going to the escape pod when Peter's mother called that she is staying over at the house. So yeah, the storyline was pretty good and executed well in some ways but this episode just wasn't really what I had in mind. Overall, this was an okay episode of "Family Guy". 6/10moreless
  • Great episode, but my biggest flaw was Francis

Peter, though, hopes to have the kind of bonding that was missing from his childhood, and when all his plans fail to work out, he resorts to kidnapping the Pope. I thought the episode was great. Not the greatest I've seen from the old FG episodes, but my score is low because I thought Francis was harsh in this episode especially to Lois and when he fired Peter from work (after Peter yelled at him). Other than that, the episode is just great. Stewie, as usual in the old episode, is funny and I LOL'd at the part where he read the Bible and said "You'll find that in Winne the Pooh."Some cutaways were funny as well. Overall, a great Family Guy episode, but it was kinda weak and low on laughs. 8/10moreless

What I liked- Peter falling out of the airplane

Overall, an okay episode, wouldn't reccomend it to everyone.

Peter's very religious father, Francis, visits, and drives the family crazy. Peter gets him a job at the toy factory, but it only makes things worse as Peter reveals all he wants is his father to love him. Will he? Does he?

It was decent. I liked Francis lecturing Chris on the bathroom, and the 'Just Married' cutaway that indicated Francis has never liked Lois. Something was missing though. It was a good episode, but I don't know, I felt it could have been better in some parts. So my final grade is a B- or so. Good, could've been bettermoreless

(Francis slaps Peter in the face)

      (Francis slaps Peter again)

    • Pope: Are you sure this is Boston?
Peter: Oh, yeah. (Points to a barn) Look, there's Harvard.
      Pope: That's just a barn.
Peter: Ooh, I see someone went to Yale!

    • (After returning from church)
Chris: I didn't know there was a five a.m. mass. I didn't even know there was a five a.m. What else haven't you told me?!

    • (Watching baseball)
Stewie: Why does the man drop his club before he runs? I would bring it with me!

    • The Pope's Emcee: Hello Boston, are you ready to humblllleeee yourself before God? (Pauses) What, have you all taken a vow of silence? Come on!

    • Pope: It's as you said before Peter, I am a'da freaking Pope!

    • Lois: Kids, your grandfather's ears are not gross and they are certainly not an enchanted forest.

    • Stewie: (reading the Bible) My, my. What a thumping good read! Lions eating Christians, people nailing each other to two-by-fours. I say, you won't find that in Winnie the Pooh.

    • Francis: You're a good woman, Lois. Perhaps you won't burn in hell after all. Maybe you'll just go to purgatory with all the un-baptized babies.
Peter: There you go, Lois, you love kids.

    • Lois: He just got up and left? Where would he go?
Peter: I don't know. I just asked him to buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks.
Brian: I don't care if he ever comes back.
      (pauses)
Brian: I wasn't being cute, I really hope he's dead.

    • Peter: We all love the bible in this house.
Francis: Really? What's your favourite book of the bible.
Peter: Umm... the one where Jesus swallows the puzzle piece, and the man in a big yellow hat has to take him to the hospital.

    • Peter: My dad worked at that factory for sixty years. That's almost eighty years.

    ADD NOTES
    • Family Guy was pulled after this episode aired due to low ratings and returned in March to finish airing the second season.

    • The doll Peter assembles says, "Any of you kids want to see a dead body?" On the captions on the Adult Swim airings, it says, "Any of you kids want to score some pot?"

  • ALLUSIONS (5)

    ADD ALLUSIONS
    • Cool Hand Luke

The scene involving the chain gang working on the street with one of the men saying "I'm takin' it off here, boss" is an allusion to Cool Hand Luke.

    • Batman (1966)

      Peter: To the Popemobile!
When Peter and the Pope race in the Popemobile, we see a scene transition very similar to the ones found in the TV series BATMAN (1966).

    • Curious George

Peter: The one where the Jesus swallows the puzzle piece, and the man in the yellow hat has to take him to the hospital.
This is a reference to "Curious George". George was a chimp who'd get into all kinds of trouble, and his owner, the man in the yellow hat, would always bail him out.

    • Sanford & Son

Francis: Now give me a hug before I give you a knuckle 'samich'
Sanford and Son was a popular show that ran in the 70s about a man and his son that ran a salvage company.

    • The Dick Van Dyke Show
Francis: Laura burns the roast, and God kills her for parading her bum around in those pants.
The Dick Van Dyke Show was a hugely successful sitcom in the 60s starring Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. (who played Laura) Laura frequently wore tight fitting pants... it was the 60s after all. The show spawned a whopping SEVEN spin offs including Rhoda, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and others. Mary Tyler Moore is seen in history as being a major role model in the Women's Liberation Movement.
