Florida sat in 14th place after the first day of competition. Entering the final day, the Gators knew they had to rally if they wanted to extend their title reign. Florida did just that, roaring back to nip Arkansas.

Florida earned its third consecutive national title by edging Arkansas. Omar Craddoc won the triple jump, Jeff Demps took the 60 meters and Tony McQuay topped the 400 field to lead the Gators.
