Man, we haven't had an OutRun ReMix since 2002... that's just indecent. Here to take us in, fix us up, and get us back on the road is LuIzA, with a badass rock/ska arrangement of 'Magical Sound Shower'. I mentioned this briefly way back in 2000 when we posted Instant Remedy's ReMix of the same source, but OutRun really was an historical moment for VGM - it made the decision of which theme to listen to front and center, presenting the user with the selection of three awesome pieces of music, while remaining firmly inside the game universe by having  them be different "stations" on your Ferrari's radio. When I was like, eight, I remember thinking that was the coolest thing ever, and you know what? It holds up pretty well... it WAS one of the first times (I can remember) that the selection of VGM was emphasized so much to the casual gamer. As an additional tangent, when Video Games Live came to DC and performed at the Kennedy Center, during the montage where they do a mini-history of VGM, when they got to OutRun, I cheered really enthusiastically when no one else did, and it was awkward. Hell if I care, though; modern audiences might get rallied up more for Halo or WoW (both great scores, mind you), but I'm all about my Hiroshi.

And so this mix makes me very happy; it also made Larry and Kyle happy, since they were the ones who've been petitioning Luiza for several years to submit it here. She finally caved - ¡viva la peer pressure! - and thus, hopefully, it'll reach a few more appreciative ears. And who wouldn't appreciate wah guitar, energetic drums, and greasy organ riffs, combining for a mix of rock, punk, and ska? Love those offbeat chords at 1'20" - definitely fills in for a brass section pretty darn effectively. As with her previous collab mix from Summoning of Spirits, drums are quicker, a bit thinner, and more punk/ska than ball-crushing metal. Which, honestly, is kinda refreshing - the guitar is an extremely versatile instrument, and while I love a good metal mix, I'd still like to see classic rock, punk, and ska represented a bit more, not to mention countless other genres. Bottom line? Excellent, refreshing, energetic arrangement from one of the great classic SEGA arcade soundtracks. We're encased in almost two feet of snow at the moment, and I'm about to go out with Anna and shovel, but I'll definitely be humming this mix, and dreaming of driving my shiny, new Ferrari, cutting across four lanes of traffic, crashing into innumerable palm trees, and enjoying some fantastic music.

I really like the shifting radio intro, and this has fantastic guitar playing. Love the ska bit, which is always welcomed and yes, that groovy keyboarding was awesome. Gotta love that dirty little Punk sound coming out of this Outrun tune. I liked the ending, but damn, poor Ferrari.

Yeeeaaah. This is how you mix an OutRun song. You take everything Sega composers have ever done, mush it all up into a big snowball of 1990s Genesis homages, and throw it back even harder. This is all sorts of brilliance. And I mean that, it's all over the place but awesome throughout. Synchronicity is strangely inconsistent, I noticed... but other than that... I am wowed.
Variety is this mix's major plus, but others include creativity, guitar work, arrangement that fittingly exceeds what I deem necessary for high marks, and of course, there's even a bitching organ rocking throughout. It tells a great, contained story as well, and I don't know if I was ever IMMERSED in it, but it definitely doesn't hurt the mix either.
This is the definitive version of this song. I'm so glad it was posted.

I think I like this better than her recent CT remix, though that's good as well. I'm not really a fan of most of the kinds of styles LuIzA tends to cover in general, but her mixes always sound very frenzied and energetic, and always very thoughtfully and endlessly worked over. She's not someone to ever let an arrangement go on autopilot, which I admire a lot. And that also distinguishes her outside just being someone who covers things in a certain genre, because she does go the extra mile to make what she's doing work outside the genre.
LuIzA, you are a badass, and I hope you keep doing music for a long time 'cause many mixers could learn a thing or two from you.

Absolutely classic. One of the greatest pieces of game music ever, and now this remix ranks up there as one of my favourite arrangements too, offical or otherwise. Brilliant.

Nice intro.
I love the different guitar sounds this remix features, from wah-wah to the rhythm guitar that lends a certain Iberian/South American touch to the remix. The ska portion's awesome as well.
Finally, the ending made me smile.

Punk? Ska? Outrun? Awesome.
I can see why they've been badgering you to submit this. It's the unmistakable classic LuIzA-style approach, and from every perspective I look at it, it rules. Guitars sound great and the performance is awesome, and we all know I have a bias with guitars. I also love ska and punk, so pretty much this song right here is a combination of, like, ten-thousand things I adore. Too bad about that Ferrari though, I feel bad for it breaking even if it's just a video game remix.

PS: I find it amusing that to this day, that only one person commented/smiled at the fact that, in this song, one crashes their "shiny new ferrari" at the end... that's kinda why I named the song that. hahaha ;P

Ok, I don't know the source, but this is pretty kickass - nice punkish flair to the song, and some of what seems to be a more ethnic flair as well. Definitely loving this a lot!

This was the winner of the [URL="http://dod.vgmix.com/past/oct06/"]Dwelling of Duels competition back in October 2006[/URL], so it's a few years old by now.

I must be a little late to the party, seeing as how everyone else seems to have heard this before? Anyways, I really enjoyed this, the radio concept for the intro was cool :) And I really like the character of this remix, its a lot of fun to listen through! Great work LuIzA!

This is some awesome guitarage here. I can easily picture this being blasted while speeding down the freeway. There are a couple of minor things, one being that there isn't much build-up in the song. Aside from the short intro and short outro, the mix is going pretty much full force throughout. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with how this is, I just would have liked the mix to build up to full awesome, rather than start out at max. The other thing is that there are a few instances where the drums feel just a little out of time with the rest of the mix. It's only really noticeable if you are really focusing on it though.
Organ is pretty kicking in this though, and again I will mention the guitar skills are very apparent here. Nice stuff.
