4:27PM EDT October 23. 2012 - You guys. YOU GUYS! Jem is back. The original cartoon shock-rocker, with her stylish and oh-so-seapunk hair and outfits, is being resurrected by toymaker Hasbro and Integrity Toys, Inc. According to the new, official Jem website, the characters from Jem will be returning as a "glamorous series of high-end fashion dolls." There's an image of the update here.

For a kid of the '80s such as myself, this is both very interesting and very timely. Stylistically, she's basically the inspiration for everyone from Prince Rama to the kids who go to parties like Top8, to the Urban Outfitters Fall catalog, running the gamut of counterculture into mainstream, so it'll be curious to see how far this resurrection of Jem goes. Maybe it's time to dip into her fictional band's back catalog of music? Make no mistake, though, her cartoon nemeses the Misfits were better, and better than the punk band that shares their name.

What other '80s cartoon do you think could have a second life today? We've already seen the successful return of Thundercats.
