3:39PM EDT October 23. 2012 - In the past few years, superhero movies have come to embody the truest sense of the cinema-going experience. Rather than being films that warrant the comment "Oh, I'll wait for this on Netflix," the big-character, heavily costumed, special-effects-laden productions have become one of the things (other than films like Paranormal Activity, and I'll get into that in another post this week) best enjoyed on a huge screen in full surround sound. Other than X-Men 3. I refuse to discuss that travesty.

Here comes a trailer for Robert Downey Jr vehicle Iron Man 3, and oh, is it ever great. It might just be that it reads Downey into the story of international alcoholic playboy Tony Stark who becomes Iron Man after an accident threatens his life, and uses the opportunity (and his awesome mechanical suit) to attempt to turn his life around. It appears as though the third installment of the film series is going to play out like great theater, with the character of Stark seemingly about to lose everything — his life, his home, his woman — to the machinations of his archnemesis, Mandarin. It's a vicious and bleak-looking tale; one that, at first glance, reads as an awesome interpretation of what Marvel Comics, the originators of the Iron Man character, do so well: tell stories, stories of good and evil, light and dark. I'm really excited for this movie — check the trailer out and tell me what you think!
