The War Z producer calls campers f**gots
[UPDATE] Executive producer Sergey Titov calls out portion of player base through game's forums; representative says Titov "has no prejudice against homosexuals; just a poor choice and inappropriate choice of words."
The War Z executive producer Sergey Titov has called spawn campers in his zombie survival shooter "f**gots." The forum post has since been edited to remove the language, but Titov's comments were quoted by other forum users, and are visible in their original form through a Google search.
"I'm trying to play at least couple hours a day every single day. Getting killed a lot, but 80 percent of all kills are 'honest.' I'm just being careless. I'm not trying to hide. 20 percent are sh***y kills by f**got's who's spawn camping," Titov said. "Or by guys who just want to play the shooter and shoot everyone in sight."
[UPDATE] A representative from the game's press team VIM Global Consulting told GameSpot, "Knowing Sergey, I can say with confidence that he has no prejudice against homosexuals; just a poor and inappropriate choice of words."
The War Z is an open-world online zombie shooter. It is currently in development at Hammerpoint Interactive, with an open beta scheduled to begin on October 31.
The use of homophobic slurs should not be tolerated, especially from so-called professionals who are lead developers for commercial video games. There are words that are not just a string of meaningless letters, but have historical and social significance beyond their callous use by ignorant individuals who seem to forget that some groups are ostracized, victims of violence, or who lack the same civil rights as others either via de facto or de jure social means. The use of these words not only legitimizes and normalizes said violence or civil abuse, but also serves as a constant reminder to these groups that they are second-class citizens in the eyes of others. This is what the apologists for the dev, and indeed the dev himself, seem to completely not understand. It is also the reason why their casual use, and certainly pejorative use, is unacceptable - especially from people who are viewed as authority or influential figures.
KillaGinjaNinja People tolerate different things. Nothing he said bothers me, he used the term in an already existing meaning which is unrelated to homosexuals. I don't even care about this game, I think it looks completely mediocre. But I'd buy a game any day from this guy over a 'professional' company like EA.
I lol'd when I read this headline. It's not bad that he said it... but he is the PRODUCER of the game. Really professional. This is my first time hearing of this game and quite frankly it looks like garbage anyway. Maybe get an adult who doesn't rage on the internet to produce it? Just a thought
I think most uses of this word nowadays are not in reference to homosexuals. The meaning is evolving, and people should just chill the f*** out.
How does that make somebody homosexual?
Wait, this is news? Eddie plz you are always like this, give us something good not some crap that ppl say, something like idk... NEW GTA V GAMEPLAY!! i mean come on mate this is called NEWS.
sgt_F79 Skip over it. Giving them a page hit for something you don't like is a bit backwards.
You would think a game developer would put in time and effort to produce spawn points that are difficult to camp. Otherwise, you're just Call of Duty
Kerrizma They haven't unlocked the full map for testing yet. That's why spawn camping and player kills are so prevalent atm. They only unlocked a portion of the map for testing.
Krazyxazn Kerrizma That only a portion of the map is available is only a small portion of the reason why so much spawn camping and PKing is taking place. Poor design and poorly implemented designs combined are the reason this is going on to this ridiculous extent - that and because immature teenagers between the ages of 13-17 seem to make up a vast portion of the community.
Besides the point, I wish he used more vulgar offensive language so I can feast on more tears.
Dawg9000 That's so edgy.
And what if he did have a problem with them?
no, campers are indeed faggots, simple
People who bitch about things not working instead of fixing their shit are bigger faggots.
Is what he said offensive? Yes. Do sensible people talk that way in public forums? No. Are 50-percent or more of gamers immature nonsensical asshats? I think you already know the answer to the question.
Also, isnt this guy Russian or something? Most of the world isnt as politically correct as the USA, especially in Europe/the Middle East.
Article kinda reeks of fake political correctness and fake indignation. This article is blowing what he said way out of proportion. While immature, kinda goes with the territory.Gamers are a microcosm of how people act in the bigger world. People in the real world are racist, homophobic, misogynist. Gamers even more so because half of them are anti-social shut-ins with no friends.
What he said wasnt politically correct and crass. But whatws the point in publicizing this? Do you want people to ban their games or get him fired? If you dont have a reason for bringing this up its just as irresponsible fanning the flames by shining a spotlight on it.
oflow agreed, this story isn't news. When I call people faggots, I'm not referring to homosexuals, I just want to call campers a bad name without actually cursing.
oflow Will it's Eddie Makuch lots of his articles are unnecessary and have no point what so ever.
I personally think he isn't a really good editor, but i do agree with you
oflow "Most of the world isnt as politically correct as the USA, especially in Europe..." Hahahahahahaha....oh, you're serious?
Have you even been to Europe? Eastern AND Western Europe (which are as different in culture and attitudes as North and South America)?
Try not to display your ignorance quite so brazenly in future.
oflow Why insult Americans? Sick of the constant generalizations about my country. Give it up
c0kemusheen oflow He never insulted Americans... just sayin.
oflow I would possibly agree with you if this was just some random gamer mouthing off in the forums, but this was the lead developer of the game and as such, he holds a position of authority/influence within that community and arguably within the gaming community. That is what makes this newsworthy.
These articles always always make me lose a little faith in humanity.
Not from the article, which is disgusting, there is no doubt.
But what saddens me is the sheer number of people that are a part of the gaming community as a whole that think this is an acceptable way to act in society.
It pains and saddens me that I am a part of this community, and I would just like to pass on my thanks and congratulations to you all for perpetuating the horrible stereotype that us grown up gamers have tried hard to stop people tarring us all with.
TroubleMaker411 It's just language. We use words to express feelings, and the guy was obviously super upset about campers. His English doesn't appear to be very good; after reading the explanation it's obvious he didn't know the full meaning of the word.Playing games isn't like being at work. You aren't IN society. HR is not going to fire you for having a potty mouth and calling it as you see it. Take your evolved sensibilities and go play a single player RPG.
lol best video ever :P and so true!
Quick children, cover your eyes, I can't have you exposed to such crude and disgusting content...Now get back to violently murdering people for entertainment.
I think..., who really gives a Fuuck
If you ask me, we need MORE language like this (note: for ADULT "M" rated games) forum posts. Devs need to tippy toe through the tulips, to please you ungrateful fucks.
You get these flippy floppy socialist cunts that you look at them and they feel all intimidated and violated.
mindpurge So we should all just turn into drooling ignoramuses that blurt out harsh words like cavemen. This world isn't blue [vulgar] enough for you, so we need to be more edgy?
Well, thanks for the image, Tiny Tim. Also, your extreme political comment gave me a chortle.
SolidSnakeFan mindpurge
Solid, take your political correctness somewhere else. He isn't saying we need a world that is vulgar or ignorant. He is just saying that things shouldn't be seen so offensively, just chill out! allot of people use that word, but just not in the insulting context.
Relax and listen to everyone else that is posting.
mindpurge lol I like that you think you are intimidating by calling people 'socialist' and 'cunts'- I doubt you are in person because you're trying too hard here.
The word has become an insult like every other swear word. He obviously didn't mean this in any way against homosexuals.
jarheadalex It IS an insult.obviously he wasn't directing it at homosexuals.
What he WAS doing, was using a defanatory word for homosexuals as an insult towards his customers. It's an inexcusable word to use, and no matter what way you cut it, it should not have been said.
jarheadalex ...sorta like the Harley riders on South Park lol
I don't have a problem with the word or it's context. Goddamn buncha sissies.
Bl4KD37H "Doesn't apply to me, so obviously it's no one elses' problem, either."
mindpurge Damn bro, it's like I'm in the third grade again and you're that kid in the back of the class whispering the "lol so funni xDD" jokes, but it's only him laughing.
SolidSnakeFan mindpurge no he's right, it's the whole class
Why does the guy on the right have 80s.......... judd nelson hair?! :)
Blowing things out of proportion, this shouldn't even be in the news.
torres_unix Conduct such as this should NOT be allowed to be given a free pass.
SolidSnakeFan torres_unix He's right, this isn't "news." There is no meaningful information contained in this "story." Just putting the spotlight on a single incident that has no value to gaming at large.
Kravyn81
Seeing as how this article has 840+ comments as of this writing, it's important, or at the very least, provocative.
Skip over an article bearing resemblance to this one next time if ya' don't find professionalism and human decency important to discuss.
SolidSnakeFan Kravyn81
200 of the comments are you spewing your self righteous bull-crap about social correctness. Do us a favor and take it to another forum.
SolidSnakeFan LMFAO! Oh, OK, Mr. Serious. I forgot this was a human decency site and not a gaming site. My apologies.
You're exactly the type of person that is wrong with this country.
Kravyn81 SolidSnakeFan Country ? what country :I ?
darkscape200?
lmao
If you're so livid about my opinions, read over them. You sound unjustifiably mad.
Kravyn81 SolidSnakeFanIt's cool that you think gaming and human decency are mutually exclusive.
Lol. That term is probably used more often than not in this way than actually used to insult homosexuals. I feel sorry for those who take offence to the word. That word gets tossed around all the time in the online gaming.
