Assassin's Creed III for PC delayed a month

Ubisoft follows pattern of pushing back PC editions of anticipated games; Desmond's latest launches November 20 in US, November 23 in UK.

Ubisoft has pushed back the PC edition of Assassin's Creed III a few weeks from the console game's October 31 launch. The publisher today confirmed that the latest installment in its open-world stealth action series will arrive in North America on November 20, with a UK debut trailing on November 23.

For Ubisoft, delaying PC versions of its games behind their console counterparts has become standard practice. In the past year alone, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Driver: San Francisco, Rayman Origins, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, Shoot Many Robots, and Babel Rising have all made their PC debuts weeks--if not months--after their Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions.

Set during the American Revolution, Assassin's Creed III features a new protagonist named Connor who will involve himself in the ongoing struggle between the Templars and the Assassins. The game is being built by Ubisoft Montreal and six collaborating studios on a new engine called Ubisoft-AnvilNext.

Scum. They could at least have the decency to let us know this in advance.  I pre-ordered and marked my calendar already!

Spineless Cowards.

No more pre-orders for me ever.  From now on I'll wait until the price drops 20 bucks before buying.

Can't live up to their own promised release dates?  Ha!  I'll make them wait and give them less money.  See how they like it.  Jerks.

It was hurtful during Brotherhood. Now it's all fine.

LOL at ubisoft, first they make DRM, got cracked, then they enhance the DRM to be more complex, got cracked as well, and now they are delaying games for you to buy it on console to delay piracy.

Seriously, dont they know that AC revelations got cracked the same release date of consoles?!?!  (game got leaked on PC same consoles release date and got cracked within 2 hours).

Legit customers had to wait 3 weeks to get the game, while pirates played and beat the game and i'm proud i was one of them, i beat the game before release date, then bought it when it was released. what they are doing is encouraging piracy by forcing PC players to go and play the pirated version because of the delay.

Dont they realize that no matter what they do, piracy will not end??? if some1 want to buy the game, he will buy it whether its pirated or not, and same goes for ppl who wants to pirate.

SO to WHOMEVER behind the DRM and those stupid decisions, you are hurting legit customers as always, EVEN SKIDROW SAID THAT IN THEIR RELEASE NOTES for AC2, how ironic, warez group giving advises to a giant games' producer.

The_IPlayer 5 pts

if this delay is a so called "measure"  to lower piracy on pc then its complete and utter BS. I mean cmon i personally and i'm sure a lot of other people are pc gamers and don't own a console, so they think by releasing it late for pc pirates will go buy the game on consoles they don't own? and all that does is make pc gamers even more pissed and cause more pirates cause the justification for it IS FUCK YOU THAT'S WHY

GONtheSKYLORD 126 pts

PC players should be used to getting the shaft by now.  Shouldnt even hurt anymore.

OnTheRole 5 pts

I fine with the delay for PC. All of the games that I want now are finally coming out in a different date. Know if I want it for my PS3 or my PC? I just wait for it on PC because I can see how the ratings go on it for the consoles.

xerxes5678 47 pts

Maybe Ubisoft games should go Free to Play on PC?

Oh wait, they already have!

*ba-dum-tish*

Just had to get that bad joke out of my system.

blackothh 423 pts

i dont know about the masses but i have more then enough pc and console games to play for the rest of my life if the world stopped making games today. i dont care about delays. not that i would buy a ubisoft game anyways, but just the concept of delaying a game to make it better is fine with me. i would rather see a delayed game that eventually releases a solid gameplay experience, then start playing the game THEN waiting for a patch to fix problems.

chronocommander 45 pts

Putting aside all whining (and there's a lot of it), I'd rather have a solid PC port than a rushed job made to meet a release date. PC versions tend to get the lowest dev priority in terms of getting it out to release because of lower overall sales compared to console volumes. If it takes a month to make a solid, well running version, which all the Assassin's Creed delays have yielded, it's more than welcome. Who wants another 2-month old DX11 patch a la Crysis 2 and ages long wait for an Extended Cut for ME3? When you launch it, launch it well, or the sour taste will rarely go away.

gbrading 59 pts moderator

Not surprised. Ubisoft now have a very long and very storied record of not giving a damn about PC players. The PC version will come with their criminal Online Services Platform DRM which will hamstring players into an always online experience even in single-player.

I stopped giving Ubisoft my custom a long time ago, and I haven't played any of their games for at least 3 years now. I refuse to support them if they just show utter contempt for the PC player.

kik4444 7 pts

well, I guess it's nothing. although, they could've delayed it much more, but Ubi strictly said, that they wanted to be done with the Assassin's Creed franchise before 2013

TheCyborgNinja 391 pts

Ubisoft: "We're delaying the PC version of the much-anticipated Assassin's Creed III to ensure that gamers the world over benefit from our amazing new digital rights management platform: Bloodpass (TM). We've had to manufacture a new peripheral for all of our PC titles going forward. It hooks into your computer via USB, and requires a sample of your blood to boot the title, which is then transmitted via the internet to authenticate your unique DNA signature. We're allowing you to register two (2) whole unique blood signatures per copy!

(Disclaimer: Constant internet connection is still required. Bloodpass (TM) technology only required to launch game each time)

orbit991 25 pts

What?! Ubisoft delayed a PC version of their game?! Impossible!!!

Seriously though, how could anyone be surprised.

c0kemusheen 267 pts

Well $ONY payed Ubisoft a shit ton of money for "timed DLC exclusivity" on the PS3 for this Assassins Creed. I wouldn't be surprised if this had something to do with it..

FidelSarcastro 66 pts

Comes a no surprise, I would have been shocked (in a good way) if they did release it in tandem with the console versions. I don't care I can wait, and hey it could be worse could be like some games that wait a year to release the PC copies. Also while you are waiting and all the console fanboys are bragging about getting their games first remember we PC users have something for our games that they don't... Mods.

bass9200 5 pts

wait a month behind console versions of game? not surprised. just hope they dont release it filled with bugs on pc like ghost recon future soldier because that was absolutely unacceptable. i still have not been able to play future soldier because the resolution was fixed to a res so high my tv cant even display. yet it takes them over a month and counting to come out with any patches.

Mega_Loser 121 pts

well that's still "better' than having to wait half a year for a PC release.

the thing that interests me though is what made them change that arrangement from a half a year to a month of wait.

could it be lower than expected pc sales?

monster637 103 pts

Mega_Loser means the get there big surge of console sales,  then they put out the pc version just to get the 1 n 100 that actually pays for the game

Mega_Loser 121 pts

 monster637

hm, well you spend your night in jail after grammar police arrests you and there you learn that if only a cent of people bought the game publishers would stop releasing on the pc because it would be damaging ultimately.

i'd like to guess that you have a lot of partial passion in your statement of a cent of paid customer since you do seem to possess consoles only.

however the average of pirated copies is estimated to be 40 to 80 per cent average, so i'll say something less than half the people pay for their games. (since there is no accurate way to predict even for officials)

since you are more relevant to console reality, please do tell me of how many people take advantage of rentals and re-sales in console gaming?

monster637 103 pts

Mega_Loser Probably not even close to pc rippers,,since usually a day after a games release they dont even have to get out of there pajamas or wait for gamefly to mail it or drive anywhere , they just hit there invite only torrent clubs or pirate bay and with one click walla,,,,,,, rentals are payed for disks, places like gamefly and red boxz and blockbuster order pallets on release , so Thats why pc always comes after consoles

Nodashi 167 pts

Let's out it in the open: Ubisoft doesn't give a shit to PC gaming. There, I said it.

JimmeyBurrows 390 pts

So many people gettin all pissy about this... Not like they need to do extra QA for the PC version or anything (sarcasm)

jamyskis 319 pts

To be honest, I'd be mad, but I'm still chugging along with AC2, and by the time I get through that, Brotherhood and Revelations, AC3 will probably be available on budget anyway :)

To all others, there are plenty of other games to be playing in the meantime.

Fartman7998 73 pts

Better on console anyway.  Xbox for the win.

And.....cue the arguments.

No game has been better on the consoles for the past 3-4 years. PC graphics is just way to advanced right now. When the new consoles come out, then you might be right. For a little while at least.

rattboy666 40 pts

Fartman7998 Yeah, the power of the Xbox360's brand new 2005 hardware is the forefront of technology.

egger7577 144 pts

As a PC gamer I've never understood this. Is Ubisoft delaying the game because either Microsoft or Sony paid them extra money; are they trying to convice people to buy the more expensive console version or trying to reduce to ammount of pirates? Could be a combination of all 3 but ultimately we'll never know the exact answer.

I'm actually looking foward to this game and don't mind waiting 3 more weeks if it means an improved experience. I read the recent system requirements release and the recommended card is a GTX560 and up so I imagine it's going to be pretty game graphics wise. That's what confuses me about this, if they are making the PC verison look that much better then why the delay? I tink it's either money from Sony or they're still not finshed with the final product.

RanY2J 20 pts

egger7577 Why would Microsoft pay to delay the game on their own product? It's for sales and DRM sake.

aamir69 51 pts

That's ok developers are having a hard on for consoles these days. There are good titles like GW2 & Borderland 2 is coming. So Ubisoft i'll just download this game for free from 'somewhere'. You keep your romance going with consoles :)

k0k066 29 pts

oh for fucks sake I'm tired of reading pc gamers whining about the delay and I'm a hardcore pc gamer myself and I am used to wait more for certain pc games (like the ac series)  yes I don't like it either that I will have to wait more to play my fav game and that pisses me of when I first hear it but then I think for a sec, pc games need more work than console games since, 1. there isn't only one OS to make the combatible with but several  2.  from all the other delays on pc games the ac serries are the only one that actually give you more content (and P2 correct if I'm wrong here) for waiting the game to BE FINISHED!!!! here are some examples: ACII the bonfire and the battle of Forli. ACBR templar lairs (which needed preorder on consoles) and the dissap. of  Leonardo (dlc content) as for the revelations... NOTHING!!! because it came out only two weeks after the console version. So nobody is trying to make you buy a PS3 or XBOX. PC GAMES NEEDS MORE WORK TO BE FINISHED!!! that's why the dev team has a dedicated part of their members only for the PC version and if you still want to buy a PS3  Golyash  :P maybe that's not ubi's fault              cheers to everyone......

Golyash 13 pts

Who cares, the concept of this game looks pretty ridiculous.

bicelis 78 pts

wavelength121 Well then there's at least a small chance the whole game won't be GO USA! GO USA! GO USA! FREEDOM!But having in mind that they try to cater to the US market as well, Americans will probably still be portrayed in a bright shiny light.I don't have anything against Americans in any way, but I prefer moral ambiguity, truth, hard decisions in my games.

Benficafan_101 14 pts

wavelength121 What difference does it make if its made in Canada than in USA?Do you think the ENTIRE team is made up only of "foreigners"? Grow up

rattboy666 40 pts

Like every other AC game.  They think that if they make pirates wait a month they will fold and buy it on a console.  This doesn't work and makes PC gamers pissed off and want to pirate the game.  I will buy this game used a few days after it comes out from gamestop and return in for my money back.  They did this to me last time I had my credit card in my hand on steam and ready to buy.  Their loss not mine.  That will just be another $60 they won't make.  If it's good game or I don't finish it in time i will #$%@ing steal it.  I'm not dealing with DRM on top of being punished for being a PC gamer having to wait an extra month.

Hirasugi 84 pts

from the company that trailblazed online DRM on all of their PC titles, this is hardly surprising.  Ubisoft, Capcom, EA, Bioware, Blizzard, and Activision really need to be careful with their consumer unfriendly practices.  Companies like Atlus, NIS, Valve, CD Projeck, Level-5, Platinum and many others are starting to have decent shares in the market AND treating their consumers with dignity.  PR is everything.  If I won't even bother looking into a new game by the aforementioned money grubs, something very wrong has happened.  Hey that was the only reason I didn't buy Diablo III and it looks like my skepticism payed off.  It only takes one.

Tripwolf 555 pts

Also! Remember to buy your console copy on consoles USED.

You get the game cheaper and it's every bit as good. Well, as good as Ubisoft games get.

Tripwolf 555 pts

And Ubisoft wonders why its PC sales are so low... other than its terrible DRM. And mediocre games.

Man, I still need to finish AC:Brotherhood and then AC:Revelations... With Borderlands 2, Sleeping Dogs and Dishonored (To name a few) on the way I might actually skip out on this one, add it to my 'inFamous 2/Prototype 2' list (Want to play, need to find time to play).

i just came in here to remind you of what hutchinson said for the pc version that:

quote

We're definitely supporting PC, we love PC, but I think it'll be PC with a controller,

I don't see us investing hugely in a mouse and keyboard setup. I think if you want to play on PC and you want to play Assassin's Creed, you have a controller.

that is all.

hi,

yes i believe it says so in line three from the end.

i made no specific point with that post, i just got it out there for people to see and recollect official statements. and maybe some will relate that statement to this story and help shape an opinion about ubi.

Reuwsaat 468 pts

It amuses me how they love to punish the people who support them, I bet the crackers will get this game before it even releases for PC. Wonder how long will they keep onto this nerd-rage, piracy will never die. And to those who think the game will be trully finished by then, the game is already finished, it's just awaiting the publishing stuff to go on, that usually takes a month or two, so you won't be getting no "fix" just because it was delayed.

emperiox 483 pts

Reuwsaat Don't worry, rest assured they are working on DLC for their season pass though...

I mean heaven forbid they fix the game BEFORE they start dlc whoring...
