Escape From Mount Stupid - Assassin's Creed
Danny stabs his way through history without the need of a memory machine in Escape From Mount Stupid's history of the Assassin's Creed series.
We do a lot of nostalgia tripping on Escape From Mount Stupid, so it feels right to finish up season three with a look at one of the most influential and promising series in recent video game history.
Assassin's Creed hasn't been around that long, but it's impact on the third-person action genre has been immense. It's provided us with hours of satisfying, immersive gameplay and exposed gamers around the globe to the beauty of the Holy Land, Renaissance Italy and the Ottoman Empire.
There's at least one more chapter in the story coming out on this generation of consoles, but the success of the series means it's likely we'll be playing them on the machines of the future. So before we step into the shoes of Ratonhnhaké:ton, here's one final look back at the stories of Altaïr and Ezio.
Season three was great fun to produce. Thank you to everyone who helped, watched and sent in feedback. Lets do it all again in 2013!

Nooooooo! Season 3 already ended??? Noooo!
Holy fuck man, you sure like to use your job as an excuse to troll people en masse, you are just spewing trash about a game you dont like, wtf made any sense of what you just said about the story on AC being useless baggage, the game script is well written and the missions act out perfectly in every installment, you are just mad they stole your rollcake with all the cliffhangers.
Klyern If you were actually listening the whole time, he says the games revolutionized the genre in a multitude of ways, and that II and Brotherhood were "revelations". Real trash talk there. He was talking about the Desmond plotline being useless baggage specifically, not the whole story, and he made sure to praise the missions in pretty much every game. I don't know how you got the impression that he didn't like the games
I like the fact that this game also adds or teaches its players a lot about the culture and personalities of locations and people that really existed. Finally, some halfwit knows the Borgias, the locations that still stand in Rome as well as masters such as Leonardo da Vinci
Easily the best historical memory simulated assassination game series of all time.
nice....Now can you do the Legacy of Kain games :-D
It's a good game, except the marvelous stupid story and selling out three times the same game with ACII.
Vraach Eh, I got a good 100 hours of content from each (Haven't finished Revelation's yet). I play them more to explore the cities and find all of the historical buildings/locations. It's inspired me to do a lot of research outside of the game about these places, and the level of detail of the stuff recreated in game is actually pretty amazing.
i hate desmonds story it just feels like unnecessary padding
s0lidsnakez How can u hate the saviour of Apocalypse????
There have been almost as many Assassin's Creed games as there were Call of Duty games this gen. Both series needs to die. Everyone is raving about AC3 just because it's set during the American Civil War.
jhcho2
Wrong, wrong and wrong...
- Is 9 CoD games, is only 5 AC.
- I agree that CoD needs to DIE.... but AC is just getting interesting now.
- And is the * American Revolution * not he Civil War... that happens over 100 years later.
so this is the last episode of season 3? :o
Danny, for me, AC's conspiracy theory and Desmond's storyline, that which you call "useless" and surplus, is one of the reasons i LOVE this franchise... It is so well presented that i can't think of ANY other game that did this better. And, as you said, i think the majority agrees.
Disturbed_88 Totally agree with you. I absolutely LOVE Desmond's story and that's mainly why I'm buying all of the games. :) Lol I feel so scared that Ubisoft is going to watch this and be all like "HEY THEY DON'T LIKE DESMOND'S STORY!! LET'S JUST LEAVE DESMOND OUT AND NEVER EVEN TALK ABOUT HIM! YAY!" D:
Disturbed_88 Agreed, Desmond's story is what makes it for me. The Desmond story in Revelations was kind of lame seeing as nothing was resolved. I mean, I guess its good that Desmond has "accepted" his role as an assassin but it was hardly enough to make an entire plot out of.
That (and the terrible tower defense mini game) aside, I thought the rest of the game was great. I loved the way they wrapped Ezio's story up. And it goes without saying that AC2 and Brotherhood were both exceptional.
I just hope that whatever the conclusion to Desmond's story is, it lives up to the hype and epic set up from AC2 and Brotherhood. I freaking love this series and am REALLY hoping that it doesn't go the way of Mass Effect 3 and completely let us down story wise.
You hear that Ubisoft? DON'T MESS THIS UP.
According to History , HASHASHIN (ASSASSIN) creed borned & died in Iran & Syria .
They've never existed in Italy or USA !!!!!!!!!!!
baglardagali the game builds upon history to create a LEGEND that the assassins never disappeared, but went "underground"...
baglardagali
LOL.... I'm very sure that Pope Alexander VI wasn't a Evil Templar to... is only a game mate.. not a History lesson.
baglardagali What a brilliant and perceptive observation. Good for you.
Online all the time meant I didn't buy the game. Sad, because it looked like fun, but I cannot support that always online rubbish.
i only have the first and second, do you think i should get brotherhood and revilations before 3?
luketheduke324
No brotherhood... is the * Grand Thief Auto San Andreas* of Assassin's Creed. :/ But Revelations is interesting if you want to understand the plot a bit better.
CaesarIIII luketheduke324 I don't know what this guy is talking about. You should play AC2 and Brotherhood before AC3. Revelations is the only one that doesn't really further Desmond's story. Although, the wrap up of Ezio's story is excellent in Revelations and I suggest playing it for that alone.
Slade968 CaesarIIII luketheduke324
I guess you haven't play San Andreas huh?... Brotherhood is a spin-off from AC2. Revelations is an Epilogue that concludes the AC2 plot and sets the story for AC3.
Great season Danny!! You are Masterful
haha I'm so glad I only had to do tower defense once, the tutorial :-P
I played the first game and found it boring and repetitive. The second game got universal praise so I bought it day one for $59 but once again found it to be boring and repetitive--I vowed not to play another AC. Now brotherhood and revelations are $5 each on steam. Tempting but, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me...
Keivz_basic revelations is 15
Danny... you DONT look like an assassin... You remind me of Woody Allen playing a "spermatozoon" in his movie "Everything you always wanted to know about sex"(but were afraid to ask").

Ubi having the Assassin's Creed sale on Steam is such a weird coincidence, its handy for people who want to try it out after watching the video though. Makes me wonder if they moved up the planned sale date after knowing Danny would be doing the video on AC this week.
*Side Note:*
Do I need to play AC: Revelations to understand the plot/canon for AC3? It's the only one I didn't buy because it's way more expensive than just buying 1, 2 & Brotherhood combined.
Joeguy00 to fully understand ezio's end and desmond's story then thats a big ol' HELLS YEA
assasin1031 Joeguy00 You could probably get by with just watching the gamespot video summary for it. But if you liked Brotherhood, then you will like Revelations.
What I liked about the Assassin's Creed series was the environment, it felt like the environment worked with you instead of against you. There's nothing more annoying than playing a game and having to walk around a gate instead of going over it. Or having the game choose what you can and can not climb. To me it was a true free roaming game and that's what made the series.
Overall, I loved all the Assassin's Creed games, Revelations was a bit winded but still a solid game.
The biggest problem with Revelations was the notoriety, which forced to to either hunt nobles for half the game, or to play those tower defense bits over and over again. Even buying stuff raised the notoriety!
Also I didn't mind the frame narrative so much. It wasn't a masterpiece by any means, buy it was entertaining enough to play through.
After watching this, I may buy AssCreed 1 just to see what its all about!
huyckb04 I couldn't finish the 1st one. For me at least it felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again.
huyckb04 I loved ACI but many of my friends that i converted to the AC series just got bored of the first one and decided to move to the second, as it was such a major improvement. Other than the repetitive elements of the first though it might be worth a buy if youre really interested in AC
spartan2777 huyckb04 I actually played AC2 through Revelations first. But i was so sucked into the story at that point that I went back and played through the first one. I wouldn't suggest starting with the first one only because it is noticeably dated and it might turn some people off before they get to AC2.
Purchased 1 and 2. Played 1 for about 15 hours and couldnt understand the attraction. Figured I must be missing something so I bought 2, same deal. I will buy 3 becasue I still watch these videos and think, damn its a good looking game and seems to be fun. Cant wait to see if 3 can hook me in for longer than the first 2, which was basically not at all.
GetafixOz Must have plenty of money to waste then :P
I only played the first and was bored to hell but completed it nonetheless.. But not gonna buy a new AC that's for sure.
Salehjamal Paid full price for the first one, but bargain bin for the 2nd and I will wait for a review and price drop on 3. Dont even know why Im interested but the period and setting probably draw me in more than anything.
Can't wait for next season of What If Machine!
I played the first one for 5 minutes before quitting. don't remember why but watching Danny escape form Mt stupid makes me want to pick them up again and try for it. i like killing men of the clothe...err in games i mean. yes thats what i meant
Best show on Gamespot, looking forward to next season. Oh yeah, good on you Danny for calling out AC's 'meta-narrative' for what it is: facepalmingly silly and wholly unnecessary.
AC2 was my fav. I sill haven't finished revelations. TO BIG OF A GAME
slickcross I didn't think it was that big. It took me around 2-3 days of inconsistent gameplay.
I can't get enough Assassin's Creed, and I love the overarching story. I'm working on my own summary of the series that I plan to put on youtube soon
"I look like an assassin..."
Yes, dear.
danny's such a good presenter, he's so handsome and brave
