Feel The Spring By Travelling In Tram Journey (Part 2)

Let’s continue exploring towns by trams this week. In Kyoto, after alighting at Uzumasa-Koryuji Station, go to Koryu-ji, which is near the station. It is the oldest temple in Kyoto. Then, walk to the famous Futaba Kaho, Uzumasa-an shop, which sells the popular mame daifuku. After savouring this delicious treat, hop on the Kitano Line tram (Randen) and head towards Kitano-Hakubaicho, a renowned spot for ume blossoms. The Ninna-ji, Ryoan-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples are World Heritage sites situated along the line. They are easily accessible by the Randen tram. Ninna-ji was founded in 888 and boasts national treasures such as the Kondo (the main hall) and Goju-no-to (five-storey pagoda). It attracts crowds of worshippers and visitors throng the temple during the blooming season of omuro-zakura. Next, make your way to Ryoan-ji. In 1450, Katsumoto Hosokawa inherited Tokudaiji clan's villa and founded this Zen temple. Here you can see the tsukubai (stone wash basin) donated by daimyo Mito Komon, and Camellia wabisuke flowers loved by warlord Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Ryoan-ji is also famous for its beautiful stone garden.
