Ubisoft not fearful of launching Far Cry 3 near Call of Duty
Brand manager claims the Far Cry series has "always been a little bit off the map," and this will draw users to it.
Ubisoft is not fazed by the fact that Far Cry 3 launches just three weeks after Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Speaking to MCV, Ubisoft brand manager Henri Guay claimed that the Far Cry series has always been "different," and this novelty will draw gamers to it.
“Far Cry has always been a little bit off the map in terms of the offer that it gives,” Guay said. “People are going to continue to play Call of Duty and people are going to look for experiences that give them something a little bit different. We feel we’re in a comfortable spot.”
Far Cry 3 was originally intended to launch in early September, but was pushed back to November 29 in Europe and December 4 in the United States to give the team more time to polish the experience. Not only will Far Cry 3 launch near Black Ops II, but also Halo 4, which arrives November 6.
I'm starting to feel that the CoD is dying down at last. I'm probably going to eat those words when it breaks sales records again, but most the people I know who were die hard fans haven't touched it in ages and tell me they have no interest in buying it again.
On the PC Far Cry will outsell the shit out of CoD. On the consoles, CoD will destroy Far Cry. In the end, CoD will probably sell at least twice as much but FC3 will still make a good profit (most likely).
From AC, to GR, to SC to SC, BG&E; right through to Watchdogs, Ubi have always been one of my favourite Devs.
Although the next CoD update may sell more, im more than sure Farcry 3 will sell bucket loads.
dont even worry ubisoft im not even gonna buy black ops 2, im going straight to far cry 3.
Is this a good game to buy??
uncfan21
It looks like it is.
CoD will sell more. FC3 will be better in every way.
Ubisoft like "Come at me Bro..!!"
Who gives a shit about Call of Duty Black Coks 2, Far Cry 3 will be a thousand times better than CoD and I can bet on that!!!
dear god no dont be. My money is already ready to get my PC version of farcry3 while Black ops may go to hell BF3 FTW
Between COD and Halo....definetely getting Far Cry first (and probably only)....but it's kind of sad to see another holiday season dominated by FPSs.
oldschoolvandal Yeah I agree. Far Cry has definitely been on my list for some time as was Dishonored, Hitman and Sleeping Dogs. I guess the good thing is that the [good[ games that came out prior to the holiday season will be cheaper during the holidays and Black Friday.
why did they fear a "war simulator" without innovation nor imaginative content? maybe FC3 hook me back to FPS after a decade.... maybe...
I would love it if Ubisoft smashed EA's back doors in personally.
FarCry all the way!!
warhawk-geeby
Does EA have anything to do with any of these titles, or are you just talking in general?
warhawk-geeby You do understand that Ubisoft isn't much better than EA when it comes to publishing... right? They both make great games but sell them in the douchiest ways possible.
i play boh
I plan on playing Black Ops 2 but I'm more excited for Far Cry 3 because its a different game and plus I love the series.
It would be cool if Gamespot published some pools in the main page for articles like this, so that a rough estimation could be made of who on GS gets the game despite of 3 other AAA titles coming all togheter and who doesn't.
i would like to know if the UH60s seen in the game will be flyable and will vehicles be operable in multiplayer
Venatorcruiser from current information, Jason is not a pilot and will not know how to fly (via official twitter page)
austin3324 shame because it would be awesome for coop for example have two players in a UH60 and the other two go in a jeep or technical and storm an enemy base and maybe have the UH60 passenger have an RPG and a machine gun and once a raid has finished use the UH60 for extraction
@Venatorcruiser yeah but maybe one of the coop characters will know how to fly :) also i hope they deicide to put in a open world coop dlc
THIS IS WHAT I LIKE TO READ!!! a studio with a pair big enough not to be intimidated by the mainstream monopoly in this seasonal release schedule. Borderlands did it a few years back, and practically creamed the opposition (as far as innovation goes at least). I have a sneaking feeling this game may well rank highly not just in sales, but for the alternatives it offers in it's content as a shooter. first day purchase. cannot wait.
Can anyone tell me if there will be a lot more weapons or unlockables in this one? loved the last one but there seemed to be lacking in 'rewards' for completing missions and stuff. Just want a ton more weapons.
genjuroT
From the official website:
"39 different weapons - Each weapon is customizable with hundreds of devastating mods."
genjuroT i hope G36 will be on coz it is my favourite weapon both in video games and real life
genjuroT No weapons coming apart in the middle of firefight this time, and I hope you can combine weapons differently because in FC2 it was impossible to make a decent combination of weapons because of the slot assignment each weapon had. Same mistake many games make, like not allowing you to carry a rifle and RPG at the same time.
jagcivtec genjuroT
They have an upgradable inventory system. Not exactly sure how this will effect the types/amount of weapons you can carry, but sounds like an improvement at least.
I definitely will be getting this I want it more than Call of Duty, because this is the type of game I like has more variety than games like COD.
At least FC3 is trying new things. It's the only FPS that has even remotely interested me this year. It's a shame it won't get the recognition it deserves and CoD will sell purely on brand name.
Scorpion1813 Agreed.
I wouldn't worry if I was them anyway, Far Cry 3 isn't suitable for kids, and it'll take a bit more skill to play.
Venom_Raptor And has a single-player worth playing (which actually lasts longer than the average movie).
Looks like a buy to me
In my response to this whole COD/Halo/Far Cry 3 debate...I'll just pick up whatever is most fun to play...which I'm sure will be all 3.
I do not care about COD i am sick tired with Militaristic FPS games hunting terrorists etc etc. I would take Farcry 3 over COD anytime...
Simplythebest12
A "game" about "hunting terrorists"? I thought CoD was just a movie about explosions and random gun-fights.
He's right, they'll be bored of the same experience after about 4 weeks and look for a new game to pick up for Christmas.
COD is not even worth mentioning atm..
the haters are probably gonna buy COD anyway lol
bongsyas_23
Only CoD game I've ever played was CoD4 - and only tried it because it WASN'T a WW2 gameand Rainbow Six hasn't been worth mentioning since Ubisoft took over.
The lastest CoD will just be CoD 4.6
Open world vs on rails...hmmm. Some of the action sequences are cool in COD, but you get to create your own Michael Bay moments in Far Cry 3. Scripted vs unique. Those two aspects alone make it an easy decision which one I am picking up. I will miss out on the zombie modes, but there will be more than enough to do in FC3 to keep me entertained this holiday season.
ZOD777
There's no shortage of zombie games/movies... and you might as well just watch a movie instead of "playing" CoD.
I'd rather play Far Cry 3 than COD.. it's refreshing and actually adds something to the genre.
If a game is good it will sell.
NaturalDisplay Sega Dreamcast.
NaturalDisplay People don't buy CoD based on how good it is. They buy it because of brand power. The casual market doesn't know any better so they just buy what is known. CoD is well-known (but not in a positive way).
Scorpion1813 Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant Far Cry 3 will still sell copies even though its in the same release window as CoD because it will be a great game.
I think its a bit unfair to say CoD is not a good game. I have enjoyed CoD: MW, WaW and MW2 immensely. I think the problem with CoD is that it has become stagnant with yearly releases.
NaturalDisplay Sorry, I just assumed there.
Even though CoD may be a good game, it's still overrated and there are better games out there.
