Today's song of the day is Underworld from Yoshi's Island DS (Nintendo DS), sequenced by Erin Thweatt. (MIDI file) (TXT file) The song sounds great, but I haven't played this game. Is it the correct song? Does it sound like the original? Also check out VGMusic's new Google+ page.

"Song of the Day" is an initial attempt to start building user feedback on new files to help us review them for inclusion into the archive. Here's an easy one for first for review: Starman (NES: Super Mario Bros.) (MIDI file) (TXT file). Some issues to consider: Does this song match the title and game? Is it good enough to include in the archive, or should improvements be requested? (We can always include a song if its good enough AND give feedback for future improvements). Any other comments appreciated. I'll pick longer songs in the future.

Today (December 19) is the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Video Game Music Archive! Our new-files keep streaming in. Thanks for the continued interest and support! This coming year, we'd like to build in user feedback on songs to help us review new submissions, as well as quality check our existing files (point our songs assigned to incorrect games, etc.). Currently pondering the best way of doing this. Twitter? Google Plus? Google Docs? Facebook? Surveymonkey? One possibility is to have a "song of the day" and have the community give feedback, then the next day the song is approved or notification is sent back to the submitter for correction. Let us know what you think would work best. Another possibility is build a mobile app (Android and/or iOS) and let people rate songs and give feedback interactively. This could even be turned into a game (multiple choice name the song). If anyone has experience if making music apps, please let us know.

The Desert Bus for Hope charity gaming marathon for 2011 has started! Please consider contributing to a worthy case: games for children in hospitals around the world. As described on Desert Bus's site: "Desert Bus is actually a mini-game from the never-released Sega CD game Penn & Teller’s Smoke and Mirrors. In it a player controls a virtual bus that drives an eight-hour-long strip of highway between Tucson, Arizona, and Las Vegas, Nevada, on an endless loop. The difficulty is that the bus lists slightly to the right and must be constantly corrected or it will crash. It’s the worst video game ever made, and we play it for as long as donations come in. In order to maximize the pain and suffering for the Desert Bus team, we have five drivers who must play Desert Bus for 24 hours at a time. In order to keep things interesting for our viewers we have live and silent auctions, celebrity guests and a lot of silliness." If you missed the marathon, you can also contribute directly to Child's Play Charity.

Our site's Internet service provider is having connectivity problems between our server and the Internet.
So, the site may or may not work for you. We're hoping this will be resolved shortly. I've already reported the issue to our provider, along with the data I gathered about where the problem is occurring.
Edit: Problem was fixed the next day.
