Jay-Z is executive producer on NBA 2K13
Shawn "Jay Z" Carter curating soundtrack and lending "artistic vision" to NBA simulator; full 24-song soundtrack revealed.
Grammy award-winning American rapper, producer, and entrepreneur Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter will serve as executive producer on NBA 2K13, Take-Two has announced. The media mogul will lend "artistic vision" to the professional basketball simulator, which includes curating the game's 24-song soundtrack.
"I'm ready to usher in the new era of the franchise," Jay-Z said in a statement.
According to Take-Two, Jay-Z's "artistic vision and style will permeate the experience", influencing the overall look of the game, the soundtrack, and even the in-game menus.
Gamers can find out for themselves just how Jay-Z affected development of NBA 2K13 when the game hits store shelves on October 2 in North America and October 5 internationally for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, and PC. A Wii U version is in the works, and will arrive sometime this holiday season.
NBA 2K13's soundtrack is made up of 24 songs, six of which are from Jay-Z. Tunes by Coldplay, Daft Punk, Kanye West, U2, and others make up the rest of the soundtrack. The full song list for NBA 2K13 is below.

No. just no, 2k. You're acting worse than EA.
You know what would make me excited? "Sid Meier and Firaxis develop a more realistic AI for 2k13".
Sigh...Jay Z ffs...who isn't even relevant nationally in music anymore...
I actually heard that Jay-Z is helping to optimize the defensive AI routines by rewriting some low-level C++ functions in pure assembly language. He's apparently far more talented than many people realize.
theKSMM get a life
theKSMM awesome comment
Is this a selling point?
Yep I "NEVER" let the games music play... Wasting your money 2K. No one buys a game for the soundtrack. Cept maybe Guitar Hero and such.
I'm just going to do what I do every year. Turn off all the music and play my own.
This makes about as much sense as me being an executive producer of Jay-Z's next album.
It's a marketing stunt plain and simple.
The Soundtrack is looking excellent to me hopefully "Jigga" can fix the menus in NBA 2K13
Why are they allowing Jay-Z to have any say outside of music? I don't want to say that he doesn't know what he's talking about but I'm sure the team has artists more than capable of prducing something nice without him.
I guess one more perspective can't hurt, after all.
That's a pretty good playlist if you ask me. Mobb Deep - Shook ones that's a fucking classic.
TonnFool23 definitely one of the best rap songs of all time.
So the Brooklyn Nets are gonna have a 99 rating and there is gonna be a stadium in Paris :). Life is good.
I believe that Jay Z being part owner of the Brooklyn Nets is the biggest reason this is happening.
Does anyone really care about this? All I want is a better b-ball game. I don't care about the soundtrack really.
Jay Z? really?
Just Imagine if they were still making football games...
I gotta support Jay.
How on earth did they get Jordan and Jay-z on deck?
Call me when DMX gets the job.
Well, at least there are a few good songs on the set-list, but seriously, both Kanye West and Jay-Z? I mean, I knew upon seeing the headline that was unavoidable, but talk about two of the most overrated hack rapper/producers ever. At least some of the other rap kind of offsets it (Erik B. and Rakim and Mobb Deep especially) and the rock / electronic songs aren't too bad, but it's still pretty annoying when the previous games had good soundtracks that had a wide range of artists rather than having over a third of the songs by two lame ones. xP
Considering how much song licensing for popular sports games can pay, he's getting a lot of money off of his "creative input".
unless i see improved gameplay for 2k12 i dont give a hoot who has what position in the company. They could put jesus christ as the CEO of CEO's (<_< see what i did there?) but I just want a better game than 2k12.
oh and they can also toss in BETTER CYBER FACES for crying out loud. Im tired of looking at certain player faces like this o_O and yell at my monitor "Who the hell are you!?!?".
you people need to grow the hell up, you not gonna buy the game because jay z is producing the sound track wtf is wrong with yous, go buy live 13 then we wont miss you, seriously he is the top music artist when it comes to hip hop. if you don,t like rap download and play your own music in the game country, head banger what ever else you listen to grow the F-up its just a sound track as long as they don,t mess up the game play i am good with him doing the music
Rap is crap, yo.
So, this music person is now the executive producer and he put in six of his songs in a video game about Basketball. Seems like he's doing okay for himself on a Basketball videogame.
xcollector EA?
SolidTy Meant 2K, Gamespot doesn't let me fix it
Oh, god no......
Meh, too much rap and hip hop songs.
No Hard Knock Life? And yeah, SIX Jay-Z songs? Damn. That's kind of too much, if you ask me.
Dammit now im going to have to listen to Jay-Z when im dunking on Kendrick Perkins with Nate Robinson....
I got 99 problems and that camel is one.
Seriously though, what does he even know about video games?
soulless4now
He knows how to make money off of them. That's all really.
The only "vision" I have is of buying NBA Live 13. I will NEVER willingly hand over any of my hard earned money to Jay Zee or Jasie, or however you spell it this week.
CaptainHerlock Someone is a hater i see lol, and if you gone say his name, he goes by Jay-Z
buy crappy live 13 then ,2k13 dont need you, you dont no nothing about b.ball anyway..!!
great, now the soundtrack is filled with terrible Jay-Z and Kanye West songs.
Don't care to much about the sound track. There is too much Kanye West on it though. I'm curious as to how the menu will change. I'm still not buying it on day one however, mainly because I'm in my 2nd season on NBA 2K12 and 3 season on NBA 2K11. My only question is, "When are they going to fix the bugs in these games. Especially the statistic bugs. Gametrack has been broken for the past 5 years. Even though 2K add some additional stats, stats for Team rebounds, assists, etc are still broken. I actually watched stats disappear after the game ended. All my Pts off TO, Bench Scoring, Fastbreak Pt stats vanished from Team Stats in a couple of games after it ended. There are still other broken things like the ball passing through solid objects (still) and the computer able to speed up instantly from point A to point B without a slow start from standing position. You can see this in replays, even when your play has faster speed and quickness. It's total BS and should be fixed. Yes, 2K Sports got Jay-Z name on there to sell more copies. With EA supposedly releasing their NBA game this year, 2K Sports wants to one up them for sure.
Meh, Gotta be honest I very much proffered the less mainstream soundtracks of previous NBA 2k games, not nessacarily cause the music was better but because Its mostly stuff I wouldn't of heard of without. I know who Kanye and Jay-Z already are but with the previous soundtracks I always end up finding hidden music gems.
Bah. I liked NBA 2K11's soundtrack when they got a good mixture of rock, rap, and pop from artists that weren't mainstream. All of the tracks sounded pretty damn good as a result. This, yeah..... no.
It's that gimmick..... we can't be arsed making a decent game so lets tack on a random celebrity name and hope it sells! Have 2K been meeting with EA?
Because when you think video games or basketball, you think Jay-Z.
Sgthombre Did you even realize Jay-Z is the owner of the Nets?
kkushalbeatzz
Mikhail Prokorov is the owner of the Nets. JayZee is a minority share holder. Somehow he's managed to exert more of his influence on the team, which can not be good for anyone.
kkushalbeatzz You realize Jay-Z only owns 1 more percent of the nets than you do, right?
kkushalbeatzz Because when you think about basketball, you think about the minority share holders, not things like players or coaches are anyone who actually matters.
Horse feces, they only want his name to sell more copies of the game and sucker in people that are so incredibly shallow to see a name like that on a game and instantly run out and buy it.
jinzo9988 Do you even realize that people would buy 2k13 regardless of who's name is tacked on it?
WTF was my post deleted?
