The good news: according to a Kotaku report, Silicon Knights was actively developing a follow-up to the acclaimed Gamecube-era horror title. The bad news: it was part of the collateral damage in what ex Silicon Knights employees are saying was the disastrous development of last year's X-Men: Destiny.

From the Snatch and Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels director comes this live-action trailer for November 13ths Call of Duty: Black Ops Ii. Ritchie's even brought along with his Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr. for a brief cameo (although I suppose you could call every appearance here a "cameo" given their brevity) for this "Surprise" ad.

And you know what? The overall joke is kind of funny, a slight reprise on the previous Call of Duty live action trailers under the "There's a soldier in all of us" theme they've been running with for the modern-ish entries in the series. "Modern-ish" here because as you know, Black Ops II's whole deal is its near-future weaponry and setting--some of which gets play here in the trailer.

So what do you think? Fun? Funny? A rehash of the old ads?

The moral of this first installment of the two-part short: don't step on a pink balloon creature's watermelon stash. He's not into it. He's really not into it.

"Kirby's Dream House," whose first half made its debut yesterday via Machinima, takes the Nintendo mascot and places him in a haunted house with a group of hapless criminals. It was written and directed by Sam Balcomb, who has a healthy list of shorts on his resume at VFX house Rainfall Films, a LA company who've made several other video game and film spoofs. Some of you may have seen their work on the Killzone 3 making-of doc that was included with that game's Helghast Edition.

Endless runners like "Jetpack Joyride" and "Canabalt" are some the games best-suited for touch-screen devices. However, "Punch Quest," from Rocketcat Games and Madgarden, changes things up a little bit by mixing the endless runner with arcade-style punching action. The results are endlessly entertaining. According to Executive Producer Josh Feldman, the live-action short series Forward Unto Dawn was an attempt by 343 Industries to do something big for their first outing with the franchise. After taking the reins with Halo Anniversary last year, Halo 4 represents the studio's first new entry in the series, and Forward Unto Dawn was a way of both celebrating that and expanding on the fiction.

Feldman reminds me that this is "the largest investment in live-action Halo" to date, following live-action promos for Reach and ODST before that. The five-part series, currently in its fourth installment via its YouTube channel on Machinima and Halow Waypoint tells the story of a group of UNSC recruits in an early encounter with the Covenant and how the Master Chief saves and possibly changes their lives. For Feldman, it's also a gift to the fans: "[It's] a project that will really satisfy their craving for more mythology in an exciting way."

Well, it looks like the cadets at the UNSC's Corbulo Military Academy are hosed. The Covenant have launched a full assault on the school and protagonist Thomas Lasky (Tom Green) might not survive it in this fourth episode of the live-action Halo series.

The Earth Defense Force series has become an unlikely franchise since the first one launched in Japan back in '03. But from what I've heard over the years, these cheapie, alien-hunting shooters are quick, fun little games from developer Sandlot.

Now D3 is announcing that the latest entry will be making its handheld debut Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable some time this winter with four-player competitive and co-op multiplayer for the handheld, new gear, and missions.
