Dishonored golden
Development on Arkane's new stealth-action game finished ahead of worldwide launch early next month.
After three years of work, development on Arkane Studios' new stealth-action game Dishonored has come to a close. Publisher Bethesda announced today that the game has gone gold ahead of its worldwide release early next month.
Dishonored ships for the PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360 in North America and France on October 9, with subsequent releases following in Australia and Spain on October 11, and across Europe October 12.
Dishonored is a first-person action game that puts players in the boots of Corvo, an assassin tasked with protecting the empress of a stylized steampunk city known as Dunwall.
The game features the voice work of a range of film celebrities, including Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher, Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking, Thelma & Louise), and Brad Dourif (Lord of the Rings, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest).

Gee only three years and Squre Enex started Thief4 in 2009 and it has dispeared. Thats why i bought this and so far so good.
Is this game going to be an open world game? Does anyone know?
i want this gizzit on my xbizzit :P
It's not golden, it's a bloody diamond and whether that diamond is literally bloody is up to you, since you can choose not to use violence if you don't want to. That's part of its beauty.
I so want this game to be a success and not merely a great game to a select few. I have so many games to catch up to that I probably won't get around to play this one until its eventual sequel comes out, but I can wait.
Gamespot, you mention all these other actors and don't even mention John Slattery... you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Going to be a ridiculously awesome game though!
Game looks amazing. Going to have a hard time trying not to buy it before Steam sale.
Bethesdas idea of tactical gameplay;
Run backwards shooting.
Not a chance.
bad_fur_dayWhat do you base your statement on? Have you even watched any of the Preview Gameplay trailers?
KingofCabal One word; Oblivion.
And no their not the same game, same developer though so I'm assuming this is equally brainless.
bad_fur_day KingofCabal Arkane Studios is the DEVELOPER, not Bethesda. They are the publisher. Get it right before you make such remarks.
james_324 bad_fur_day KingofCabal
Tell em like it is james_324. I can't stand brainless babies on forums, but love to put them in their place.
bad_fur_day KingofCabal
As brainless as your grammar? Mr. "their not the same game." You fail on two levels, in turn, leveling down.
I'm definitively picking this game up.
The head line of the news is kind of confusing though.
It makes it sound like they finished the game earlier than supposed to. Which is not the case at all.
Just 10-11 days to release is actually cutting it short. Games usually go for a 3 weeks average before release.
And anyways, seriously ?
"the game has gone gold ahead of its worldwide release early next month."
Could it have gone gold after the worldwide release? <_<.
Slash_out "Could it have gone gold after the worldwide release?" That is not unheard of, but the companies rarely admit that, even if it's obvious to everyone else. Anyway, it's good that it doesn't suffer from overambitous ideals leading to an un-finished product. That is also not unheard of.
Hurvl Gone gold is when the game has been sent to the factories to be pressed. The "gold" comes from the fact that the "Master CD" sent to the factories used to be golden.
I think you might mistake "going gold" as the game being completed, bug free. But it is not the case ^^.
So it is not possible to go gold after release, since if the game hasn't gone gold yet, the release has to be postponed as there would be no game to be sold.
The only possible exception would be, for games being released as digital first, and a few month later as a physical copy for whatever reasons. But this is clearly not the case here.
Slash_outSo it goes gold after it's completed or what? It doesn't make sense to send an unfinished game to be pressed in the factories or is it so simple to add/correct/bugfix stuff after it's been sent to the factories?
Hurvl Going gold only means the game has been sent to be duplicated and boxed to the factories for the reason I mentioned above. It's an heritage from when the Master CD was printed on a golden DVD. The master CD is the one sent to the factories to be duplicated.
The game may or may not be completed or bug free. But this does not affect the "gone golden" saying. In a perfect world, the game would be finished and bug free. But really the game goes "golden" whenever the devs/publishers wants it to, or feel it's ready enough.
It is not possible to add bug fix on the dvd that is duplicated. No changes are made on a master CD once it's sent. If bug fixes are needed they have to be done by downlodable patches after you install the game.
Yes it doesn't make much sense to send an incomplete game to be duplicated. But even if they sent half the game to the factories and the rest "to be downloaded later" it doesn't affect the "going golden" saying.
Basically what I was making a comment on, was that gamespot was telling us that "the game was being duplicated and boxed ahead of its release in october". Which is a weird thing to say. Of course that's going to happen before release... How else are we going to find games in the stores?
Slash_out So both me and the article's author were mistaken, lol. I'm glad we cleared that up :P.
Slash_out Hurvl
"Going Gold" is talking about numbers of sales. It's saying it sold more than 500K units. Gold = 500k, Platinum = 1 million sales. Otherwise why on earth would they be saying "The game is officially being put on physical medium to be sold now!" Makes no sense. They are just telling us that the game is pre-selling well.
CaptWaffle Hurvl No this is not this at all.
Going gold is the moment the game is sent to the factories. This is something most gamers can confirm to you, just ask on any forum, or you can check wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_master
"The golden master is usually the release to manufacturing (RTM) version, and therefore the first public/commercial version. It represents the development stage of "RTM" (Release To Manufacturing). Reaching this stage is said to be "going gold", or "gone golden.""
CaptWaffle
Oh I forgot to mention, the "gold" status is not the same for music and video games.
In the music world "xxx is gold" or "xxx is golden" has the meaning you mentioned, but notice the wording is different here.
In the gaming world "xxx is GOING gold". It's just something else that I explained earlier. You can do a search on google or even on gamespot for forum topics. You'll see plenty explaining this.
This has nothing to do with the number of sells. And you'll even see articles on games that didn't even sell in their life more than 100k copies going gold before their release. It's an heritage from the time when the master CD of a game was printed on a golden DVD before going to the factories to be duplicated.
Ps: And they did not say that the game is being put on physical medium... Well they did by telling us it's going gold, but that's all.
This looks promissing. Finally some one dared to bring us a new atmospheric FPS.
The top 5 of best FPS for me would be
1. Bioshock.
2. Half Life 2 + Episodes 1/2
3. Thief 3
4. Spec Ops: the line
5. Metro 2033
jhonMalcovich Try System Shock 2 mate, Bioshock based it's storyline upon that game, and it is A-mazing!Good list although I would have taken Spec Ops off and replaced it, but there are too many unique games out there to make a choice >.<
Warful Yep. Now I think I put Spec Ops a bit high. Besides is not a FPS.
System Shock 2 probably is the best FPS of all time. I just picked more modern games. But I agree every gamer should play System Shock 2.
Spec Ops is replaced by Stalker: SoCh
I was never a fan of time based games (bending, slowing, stopping etc)...but the atmosphere alone looks worth the try.
Gravity_Slave That's one hell'uva niche you have there pal!
I just can't wait to play this thing !! I hope we get a game without hell of a bugs !!! I just hope so ...
Really looking forward to play this game. Do you know if the PC version has some DRM (Steam, Games for Windows etc.)?
expeditopaz2008 My guess is that it will use Steamworks. Bethesda has a habit of using Steamworks for the games they publish. Not that I complain. Besides, that's a (currently) 100% sure way for them to be sure that their game can't be cracked before released.
nu1mlock I don't complain about Steam, but I hate Games for Windows Live.
expeditopaz2008 nu1mlock It will use Steamworks, however it is unclear whether it is Steam-only. Cause I heard from one of the creators on the Dishonored forum that it depended on the country etc. I believe however, although im not sure, That in main Europe it will use Steam, I am 100% sure it won't be Games for Windows Live though!!
I have a doubt,is it free roam?
elbauto it is NOT free roam, however it is more of a sandbox game with a wide frame. In each mission you'll have a rather large area to explore for loot, bone charms and runes to improve your skills or your abilities. Check the gameplayer vids for a grasp on the size (:
too much games in October,I thonk I'm going to suicide.I also have Kinect and I'm gonig to give it a chance with Fable, Deagon Ball Z and Harry Potter, maybe with Avengers too...
elbauto I think just buying a Kinect would be enough to make me suicide.
KingofCabal god I don't know why people people do this with kinect. It's fun if you choose the correct games.
shit my graphics card is dead guys!!!
shansss123 Rip
dr_extravaganza give me yours!!
shansss123
so what is a new card going to cost you just to play this one new game like this?...$150-$350. Basically the price of a brand new console...Yeah, PC gaming is soo much better than consoles.
Gravity_Slave shansss123 Lol. In all my gaming experience, I never lost a video card. I still have 9600gt which has 7 years and still working.
Video cards die in most cases if someone abuse the overclocking.
Gravity_Slave shansss123 I even have my Pentimum 3 600Hz with GeForce 2 MX 400 still working (12 years). So your argument is invalid.
This game feels closest to getting me some Half-Life for a lot of good reasons. The highest honor in any FPS.
I am really looking forward to this game
I've had my 360 and monitor unplugged and in my closet for about 5 months now, and I intend to keep it that way until after November (final year of bachelor's degree), but I really want to play through this when it comes out, temptation.. I have lab reports and exams to do, failure is not an option, but..
macca366 power through and get that work done man. I think you've shown amazing self discipline to make it this far. Good luck with the remainder of you undergraduate term.
Chaos_Dante_456 Thanks bud!
Can't wait for release date, Dishonoured is looking poised to bring back the stealth genre in this generation of gaming with a ton of player choice to boot!!!
I'm even just looking forward to the tarot cards...
This game has style and a new world to explore.
Glad to hear it's done on schedule.
