Big in Japan October 7-14: Bravely Default, Resident Evil 6
New Square Enix RPG at top spot and above Resident Evil 6 and new Namco Bandai RPG; 3DS XL back in high sales groove.
The latest role-playing game from Square Enix was Japan's flavor of the week for the October 7 to October 14 period, followed by Resident Evil 6, a few others from Namco Bandai.
According to the latest Media Create numbers, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy was at first place on the software charts with 141,529 units sold. The 3DS RPG is a new IP from Square Enix and features turn-based combat, a brave and default stance switch system, and multiple job classes to mix and match. The collector's edition of the game features a poster, a soundtrack album, an art book, and an exclusive cover.
Past top spot holder Resident Evil 6 went down a notch from the past week. The PS3 version of the game sold 92,921 units while the Xbox 360 version was at 34th place with no sales number stated. For more information on Resident Evil 6, check out GameSpot's review and video feature.
Namco Bandai's new RPGs made their debuts for the week. Project X Zone for the 3DS was at third place with 85,539 units sold while Tokitowa was at fifth place with 32,215 units sold. The former is a strategy RPG where characters from Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai team up and fight in a newly created universe, while the latter is a fully 2D-animated RPG that combines turn-based and action elements.
The 3DS did well sales-wise due to Bravely Default and Project X Zone being released for the platform. The XL version topped the list at 52,079 units while the regular version sold 27,221 units. The PS3 moved 26,312 units while the PSP was at 15,585 units. The PS Vita was still at 6,134 units, a low number compared to its older cousin.

On the hardware side, it's nice to see that all of Sony's consoles are up there and still selling. It was a surprise to see that the PS2 is still moving units, which is nothing short of amazing since the PS2 is still the best selling console of all time. However, seeing that the PSP is outselling the PS Vita makes me even more worried for its future. The Vita's hardware is so amazing, but it's the lack of 3rd party support and advertising is what's hurting it. I really hope in the coming months and in 2013 that the PS Vita will get some better titles and support. 2013 for the PS3 is shaping up to be a great year, especially 1st party wise (The Last of Us, anyone?). Come on Sony, show the PS Vita some love and advertise it for what it is first: A PORTABLE PS3!!!
you would think square would release bravely default on the consoles online stores to help move more copies. i'm sure there are quite a few people who would pick it up that way.

here is a theory, i think in japan, handheld sales are booming because more and more people just dont have room for large hd tvs. especially in places tokyo. even the hotels are pods there. Or maybe they just dont dig microsoft lol.

I'm I glad I bought the 3ds xl, soo may good games now, plus lots more to come! Fire Emblem 3ds announcement made me get rid of my Vita a while back! Best decision ever!
NoobNationUK good games if you have a jpn xl as from what i hear the 3ds is region locked and these 2 games don't have localization announcements as far as i'm aware :/
Looking at the console sales, why does MS still bother with Japan? It feels like they're trying to sell a DVD to a person without a player at this point. They can't possibly be making any money there.

KingofCabal Japanese folks like to praise their things, you have to respect that. And for what is worth, RE6 is not that bad if you can handle a handful of Hollywood style action scenes and some Dark Souls punishing moments.

Hate_Squad well its a slightly enhanced port on an expensive handheld. its not that surprising that it wouldn't do that well. it didn't have big enough differences that people would choose it over the ps2 version. the least they could of done was add a femc and lots of costumes like p3p did. plus a crap load of people already played the original version of p4.

leviathanwing Actually, I'm sticking with Wondows 7... Just because windows 8 exists doesn't mean you have to buy into it. I never bought Diablo 3 and I'm currently playing Portal 2, Amnesia, Defcon, Sleeping dogs (which i just got at half price btw), Torchlight 2 is pretty good, My friend is going to buy me Dishonered, Borderlands 2 (which I've been playing) on PC makes the console versions look like dog poo... So... that's pretty much it.
Very good PC exclusives along with everything else that's on console.
ABEzilla116 leviathanwing the pc can look better than console true but that doesn't make the console versions crap in comparison. and the pc loses in that there are far fewer titles and it costs quite a bit to get a good gaming pc. the money spent on that can buy hundreds of games.
shadowysea07 leviathanwing People say that like the only use for a gaming PC is for gaming. Look at this way, if you're in college (like me) you will use that computer for loads of things. The need for a computer is almost undeniable for people who work or are in school, and even then its an entertainment hub, netflix, youtube, and social networking like what we're doing right now. The cheapest computer can cost you maybe $300 for just using the internet assuming you don't want to buy a toaster, and a gaming console, roughly about $300-$400 assuming you want to buy controllers and games and an extra $50 if its xbox for live. Most people who game on PC will tell you that spending more than $700 or $800 on a gaming PC is splurging a bit so its not actually as expensive as it seems on the surface.
A $500-$600 PC will play most games unless you want to run some kind of future unreleased game with godly graphics on max settings. Hell, portal 2 runs just fine on my sister's $350 laptop.
So if you see it this way, you're kinda saving money, considering Steam always has great sales on games and DLC. Also, you get to use mods which greatly increases the replay value of games like Skyrim that and you can upgrade that PC if you need to in the future instead of buying a new $300 console.
Now, don't get me wrong, I have a 360 and I'm buying a WiiU. PC doesn't do everything but it does a nice amount of things. I sort of just lashed out like that originally because of the way the first user was all like "PS3 is da best".

capcom RE series has been terrible in my eye's since code veronica, dont like the new emphasis on guns nor the over the shoulder gameplay, prefer the old stlye much more, only thing I like from capcom in recent year's was asura wrath and that was more of a interactive anime with gameplay teasing,
unimpressive numbers for re6.........looks like ca$hcom or crapcom is feeling the burn..........think twice when your gonna release re7 and this time listen to fan angst more closely.
staranise You must not have seen the total sales for "Resident Evil 6" so far. It is crushing just about everything out worldwide and selling like hot cakes in Japan. Go Capcom!!!
