Tom Mc Shea travels to Albion for this video review of the Kinect controlled Fable: The Journey.
Was it not it peter himself who said this game was not on rails at e3 a year or two back?
UNSCSpartin People should already know not to listen Molyneux at all :D Just look the gameplay he shows and nothing else, then when it comes out watch reviews and buy if you're interested, but never listen Peter.
A good Kinect Game Review, other than "Dance Central" series, erh? Well, this is a pleasant surprise.
Haters are gonna hate as soon as they see the word "Kinect," anyway. True: most of them do have good reasons for that reaction, considering the poor track-record of Kinect games.
But, the reviewer of "Fable: The Journey" liked how the controls in this title, were not nearly as frustrating as with other Kinect titles. If all that is true, well, what's so wrong about that?
GAME-QUEST-EX Plus Tom McShea is generally a hard ass when it comes to game reviews, so him saying a kinect game is any good is pretty high praise.
lol always makes you wonder when you see user and site scores so far apart.
Tidal_Abyss lol the nice answer on the left the true one right
UNSCSpartin
lol- just thought it was kind of funny- I don't use consoles so it's not something I'll play anyway but I do tend to look at reviews in general, though only the PC applies for me.
This looks like it could be a more tolerable Kinect title. The only game I've really enjoyed for Kinect so far is Kinect Adventures. All the games I've played on it seem to have their glitchy moments for sure.
Visually, looks fantastic and I love the Fable universe. But Kinect is quite honestly a failure and it's infuriating to see developers throw good money after bad at it when it's still a prototype in every respect. It's a shame to see Lionhead abandon the scope of their previous efforts to focus on trying to make a good Kinect game, because the best the Kinect has done so far is Dance Central and Double Fine Happy Action Theatre.
You stopped me at "on-rails Kinect."
No thanks.
the first kinect game that didn't suck (beside fruit ninja that game is awesome)
Fable and Microsoft suck for not developing the game for PC also. Fable 2 was a huge dissapointment (the PC-less part) and now again.People would buy it
Loved previous fable games. Despise the Kinect. Back to Borderlands 2. Goodbye Albion hello Pandora.
Umm....no.
More reason to not buy a kinect ! keep em coming microsoft .
seems like a good game for a younger audience i suppose the score is deserved for a game like this given you take the title and its lower ESRB rating compared to past games as far as kinect games go im sure its good the only kinect game i truly enjoyed myself was star wars and thats because the nerd in me couldnt wait to swing a saber around and use the force
So... I guess Fables never going to recover it's long lost fan base then...
Lately GameSpot reviews are off by a lot. How does this game get an 8 when good games that deserve this type of score get 6 and 5s. I don't get these reviews sometimes.
YukkiX maybe gamespot is ahead of the curve.
sounds like Warhorse the game.
skyklg
Yeah, come to think of it, it does. Except that the horse only has one owner, and not three or four.
so much nerd rage about the review....so sad.
I see nothing wrong with this review. The reviewers are just excited to see something different with a game which I understand completely. The same formula gets tiresome (COD for example) so its nice to see something different :)
This is why I moved to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Ometh Oh yeah! Amalur is an awesome game badly advertised. Its a shame Big Huge folded. I am only praying if a sequel is picked up by another developer, that they follow the same path and don't mess up a good thing.
1nitram2 I agree that many games that Gamespot reviews could get much better scores, however, this review is to be placed in a category with other Kinect games. This game can't hold a candle to Skyward Sword, however, compared to the other horrendous Kinect games out there, this one is excelling.
So this game scores higher than Zelda: Skyward Sword? Are you guys at Gamespot smoking the wrong stuff or something? I will believe the Metacritic score instead, that sounds more realistic in my opinion. ;)
Any time a game is described as "on-rails" I have to immediately assume the worse. Kind of pleasantly surprised by the review but I can't say I'm totally convinced yet. Especially after how awful Fable III was.
Like many I saw this as a huge fail but fitting for Fable since it is a huge fail, however this review peaked my interest now. Seems really story focused and the controls aren't a hindrance but help draw you into the game.. Might just have to check it out.
I've never seen a more scripted looking game, wasn't Fable all about the open world and exploration? My god...
When I first heard about this I thought, "Well, there goes my beloved Fable series. Never all that it could be, but always a good time." And it looks like I was wrong. I doubt this is what Fable was supposed to be, but it has me interested in the series again.
paulsifer42 Fable was never what it could be, it got worse and worse each net iteration.
JimmyJimJim I've played all them them a few times, and I agree and I don't. Was the last Fable as ground breaking as the first? No. The first was a whole new kind of game that felt really cool and compared to the rest of the gaming world of the time, it was revolutionary and awesome. The last one wasn't as revolutionary. It felt like just another game. But, as I played through the whole series, the last one really did have better game play, but because of what other games were out, no one noticed that.
paulsifer42 The problem on my part with the first Fable and well all of them is due to the massive hype fest that is named Peter Molyneux. The dude hyped up the first one so much saying it would have this and that and golden toilets.. Which it didn't. So it was just a letdown
JimmyJimJim That was a big issue for the whole series, and while I do think Peter should have toned it down, I do believe that he was trying to revolutionize the gaming industry. He promised what he hoped would be in there, and many times his hopes fell short.
WAIT A SECOND!!! Tom McGay is praising a MOTION CONTROL GAME?!?!?! And yet, he completely panned Skyward Sword. WTF. come on Gamespot. I used to really trust you...
awesomo400000 maybe this game has better motion controls?
stan_boyd hahahaha. ur funny
awesomo400000 Well its gotta have something better than skyward sword cause Tom is Zelda fanboy so for him to hate a Zelda game is serious business.
stan_boyd :/ yeah, but that's exactly why he hated it....too high expectations. nd that's why it was a big deal back when he rated it, cause he normally likes zelda.
if you didn't get it yet, I'm trying to point out that Tom is a very inconsistent reviewer. at least with respect to the rest of the gaming community.
awesomo400000 naw just as inconsistent as everyone else. Look at RE it got everything from a 3-9 from different sites Duke Nukem Forever got everything from a 3-9 from different sites.
looks pretty legit for a motion control game that isn't on the wii
I love fables, ill be definitely trying it out and ill probably be giving it a better rating then 8 but who knows. Iv played since the first one, but i doubt this would be the same as the sequel i know this ain't classed as fable 4. But it is a family based game so don't expect much.
Heh, I predict sales of Fable will drop considerably with this iteration of the game.
yoda101280
Wait for it....comment from Gelugon_baat in 3...2....1...
DAMSOG yoda101280 Nope Gelugon won't answer to that one as its a prediction not someone giving opinions as if they are fact or claiming things without proof.
stan_boyd AWWWW....BFF's forever!
DAMSOG Ha ha ha no, we disagree on many topics but we do both have one thing in common. We understand that a review is an opinion and its based on many factors. Yes you might think this game sucks, heck I think it sucks, but I think EVERY rail shooter and kinect game sucks. But for a rail shooter on the kinect this is probably a good game for those who are into that genre.
stan_boyd
It does make one slightly suspect of the score after all the faults listed in the review, reviews are just that, opinion, but for a lot of gamers it can be the difference between a purchase or a miss...
I might get this game for my kids, looks great for them but I am curious why it got a teen rating first since my kids are 6 and 8.
