Wii U Black Ops II denied Elite support
Free online platform for newest Call of Duty will not support Nintendo's new console at launch; Activision currently "evaluating options."
Wii U gamers will not be able to access the Call of Duty: Elite social service when Call of Duty: Black Ops II launches next month. An Activision representative told Kotaku that the online platform may support the Wii U some day, but not at launch.
"We are currently evaluating options for Call of Duty Elite to support Nintendo's Wii U game system, however Call of Duty Elite for Call of Duty: Black Ops II will not support this platform when the game launches on November 13th," the Activision representative said.
Earlier this week, Activision announced that all Elite features would be free. Additionally, the company said four planned map packs and Zombies add-ons for the game will release in 2013 for $15 each or through a $50 season pass.
Wii U gamers will miss out on Elite (at least at launch) and they may also be skipped over for the game's DLC. Activision's season pass and DLC map packs have been announced only for Xbox 360, and "may not be available on all gaming platforms," according to Activision.
Black Ops II launches on November 13 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, with the Wii U version to arrive November 18 as a launch title for the system.
There you go, Nintendo screwing things up again.
When they turned from the "always innovating for our fans" into a "always late and stripped out for everyone"?.Thanks but no Nintendo; I will keep my present 360+PC+PS3 game set.
I'm waiting for a Next 64. Until then, it's Microsoft for me (I don't mind Sony either, just got used to Xbox and its games).
Nintendo lost me with the Gamecube, and I didn't even consider getting the Wii. What went wrong? They're a completely different company now, ever since they started thinking about "creativity." They had plenty of creativity, more I'd say, and it was in their games. Now their creativity is in unwanted places (their motion sensing fad is a perfect example).
okassar You know why they're able to create the games they create? It's because of the hardware, they basically build a hardware that allows them to explore different options so they can give an experience that's both fresh and very memorable.
This is a real chin-check for the Wii U. Just when Nintendo is trying to rally third-party developers to their new system to gain parity with the XBOX and PlayStation, word drops that they won't have the same DLC. Suddenly those core gamers who might have considered getting the Wii U version of this game are evaluating other options. The PS3 and PC will eventually get the DLC...Microsoft paid for exclusivity in some announcement window, no doubt. Hopefully they'll figure out the technical details of making it available on the Wii U too.
Nintendo is paying the price for not building up a decent online environment before now.

This just in for those wanting more ONLINE Wii U news :
"Only "select games" will support voice chat on Wii U, Nintendo has confirmed."
Bullet Points :
1.) There will be no official Wii U headset
2.) officially licensed 3rd Party ones inbound
3.) No universal support for in-game voice chat
4.) Game-by-game support for in-game chat
5.) The GamePad mic will not, by default, work as an input for in-game voice chat
6.)The Wii U will support wired headsets (and possibly mic-enabled headphones), but only through the Wii U GamePad
7.) Wii U Pro Controller does not have a headset port.
No news yet about whether wireless headsets can or will be supported
Oh wow, I'm sure everyone is heartbroken over this news, huh? Also, this just in, GameSpot has sources claiming Miyamoto and Reggie eat small children and kick puppies for fun. Trust me, GameSpot said so. And everyone knows GameSpot is totally legit. Totally unbiased news.
Nintendo gets CoD: *fanboys say Call of Duty needs to bite the dust*Nintendo doesn't get CoD Elite: *fanboys say Nintendo needs to go burn themselves*The people on Gamespot never cease to surprise me.
Good. No reason why people should be charged more for a half-assed game. Trust you're not missing anything either.
Not like Elite is a big deal to begin with.
Who would buy BO2 for the Wii U anyways?
ZamboniGamer Exactly.
I'd rather play Tank, Tank, Tank for christ sake.
I don't know why. but despite the wording in the article, I'd imagine it has more to do with Nintendo allowing data collection (that appears on elite) then it does with "not being able to figure it out -or whatever.
Because this game surely means something to the Wii U...
*facepalm*
Inb4 another article from a touchy Treyarch employee being all defensive!
Hmm, I think the main issue here is the control options offered on the WiiU's touchscreen controller. It offers an unfair advantage to WiiU players being able to swap out weapon loads and configs ON THE FLY! though no reason has been offered by the developer at this stagem as the machine is quite caplable of online play, this is just speculation.
Lets face it, without nintendo none of guys would been playing 360, PS3, kinect, move, have shoulder buttons, analog stick, rumble or countless of other innovations they standardized. Let alone the fact that the whole gaming industry would be in hands of nerd PC beta players and would still be considered an activity for introvert "loosers" So before bashing nintendo know history.
registeredpunk
LOL. spoken like a true fan boy, You have no idea of what form the gaming industry would be like without nintendo. You assume it would be for the worse, you will have to lend me your crstal ball. As I have stated previously, nintendo has borrowed almost every idea from other companies. Perhaps you need to learn the history of gaming, look for yourself, how many ideas did nintendo invent? The key word here being invent. Your comments are so ridiculous, yet sadly I actually think you believe your outlandish claims.
Lordcrabfood Hah I knew some moron would twist this with some lame rhetoric. I said standardized, NOT invent. It just makes you mad it's true Nintendo saved the gaming industry from been labeled "nerdish" generations to come.
registeredpunk
LMAO!!! and seriously I did laugh when I read this. It was regarded that back in the 16 bit era it was Sonic and sega that raised gaming to some degree from the stigma that was associated with it at the time. While nintendo continued to bring out more of the same. Your last statement was a classic. What the hell could be more "nerdish" then waving your arms in the air at a T.V.
Lordcrabfood Its common knowledge read all about it.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_video_game_crash_of_1983

LOL and how times have changed with the infamous golden seal now nothing more then just a sticker. The Wii being nothing more then a vechile for an unprecidented amount of shovel ware. Nintendo have casualised the market which may bring in more gamers and more money but at the cost of hardcore games. This is what nintendo has achieved.
This is off topic but this is yet another reason to avoid the Wii U http://kotaku.com/5952422/report-chinese-kids-were-used-to-manufacture-the-wii-u
Lordcrabfood
Funny because that same company also makes products for Apple and Sony, so is that a reason to avoid their products also?
abHS4L88
The big difference here is that people expect this from the big bad evil MS, but nintendo portrays themselves as a family friendly company. This is yet another treacherous act. The response from nintendo could not be anymore formulaic, even more so then the zelda franchise.
Lordcrabfood
Pretty sure Sony/Apple's responses are going to sound similar, it's pretty much standard damage control responses. But again, with these 3 huge companies (along with who knows how many other companies) hiring Foxconn, there is the possibility that none of the companies were aware of this. Now if it was ONLY Nintendo, then it would look fishy.
abHS4L88
Nintendo has a duty of care to ensure that these practices do not take place. They failed to do this and replied with "insert typical corporate response here" . The family friendly facade has been exposed for what it is.
Lordcrabfood
So why doesn't Sony, Apple and every other company who's hired FoxConn not getting any criticism from you? At least Nintendo responded while they've remained quiet so far.
Lordcrabfood abHS4L88 "The family friendly facade has been exposed for what it is." Anyone who believed that act in the first place is an idiot.
abHS4L88
Because Nintendo's advertising campaign was almost solely aimed at families and kids for the Wii. Not just the Wii either, nintendo has always placed a heavy focus on familes with their advertising over the years. This is hypocrisy at the highest level. Nintendo's response was ridiculous and completely tranparent. They would of been better off remaining silent.
Lordcrabfood
But if they had remained silent, it would've just been more suspicious. I do feel like none of these companies actually knew that this was going on since it apparently only started happening recently.
DarkSaber2k abHS4L88
I agree, but it still reeks of hypocrisy.
abHS4L88
The problem Nintendo and all these other companies is that is very well known on how China preforms when it comes to human rights. The "We were not aware" defense is a joke. The use of child labor is even in nintendo's own guidelines. They are getting products manufactured in a country that is renowned for such illegal and morally offensive activities.
Lordcrabfood
Bleh, I'm not completely informed on the full details of this so there's not much else I could say. The dude from ReviewTechUSA has stated that it's purely because they can make the parts much cheaper there than anywhere else and everything else comes 2nd and while I don't agree with that ethic, ultimately that's business and there's really nothing we can do to stop it, and no I'm not going to not buy a Wii U in attempt to protest XP
Duh, no 1337 people buy Nintendo! :P
The on-line service for Nintendo Wii U hasn't been sorted out yet. So not Having this for the Nintende version of Black Ops 2 is understandable. Since it is uncertain how well MP will work on Nintendo system.
This microsoft moneyhatting business is getting a bit silly.
Suikogaiden Frankenstrat247 M$ does pay Activision to get the timed exclusive dlc
In a small sense i can understand why its not going to be on the Wii U on launch, but no DLC on the Ps3 & PC is just ridiculous, they better make it happen.
Megachaoz it will happen just at a later date like all the other cod games M$ pays Activision to make them time exclusive
I'd deny Codblops 2, period.
Oh wow, and I just cancelled my Wii U preorder yesterday. It's horrible being an early adopter, and I am not going to fall for that again, even if it's Nintendo.
NoelXYeul
I don't see what's wrong with being an early adopter for Nintendo's systems, since price drops usually don't occur until 2-3 years later and there aren't any "updated versions" being released like with Sony/Microsoft.
For me, I really don't care about Call of Duty, getting a handful of Indie games along with Assassin's Creed 3 (since my dad hogs my 360), Mario, and Ninja Gaiden 3 (mainly for my sister who fangirls Ayane) along with the exclusives that will come within the next few months.
abHS4L88 NoelXYeul *cough ... no price drops ?? no new hardware configs on a nintendo system??? What about the 100$ price drop on 3DS less than 5 months after launch .... what about the 3DS XL less than a year after launch. Or what about going back another generation. We had the DS, then shortly after, the DSlite, then the DSi, Then the DSi XL ... i think you seem to be overlooking things as Nintendo has done exactly what you say they havent, and in fact that 100$ price cut so early really pissed off a lot of early adopters because all they got out of it was some VERY old games that likely many (like myself) still have for our older consoles of yesteryear.
ColdfireTrilogy NoelXYeul
Handhelds are ALWAYS a different situation than home consoles. Look at their home consoles, did that happen with the Wii, GameCube, N64, SNES and NES?
ColdfireTrilogy abHS4L88 NoelXYeul You notice how you only talked about the handhelds there... Because it doesn't happen with their consoles.
Jecoh ColdfireTrilogy NoelXYeul
Indeed, with handhelds it's really hard to get it right the first time in terms of design and since you carry it around with you, of course you want it to be light and comfortable, along with nice looking so redesigns are a given, and considering how the DS became hugely popular when the sleek DS Lite came out, that only proves how important it is.
Home console is bulky and doesn't look pretty? Not too big a deal since it only stays in your house most of the time and even then that didn't stop many people from hauling around the ever so massive XBox.
abHS4L88 NoelXYeul 3DS had a price drop rapidly, and with the Wii U's rather extremely high price point considering the lower end 2012 tech in the box, I expect the same thing to happen in exactly one year. The Wii U will price drop right before the 720/PS4 release.
Of course, if the Wii U sales great, then Nintendo will keep the price high like the Wii.
SolidTy NoelXYeul
Depends on how Microsoft/Sony price their new consoles also, but if it's supposed to be some beast of a console, then there's no way it can retail for a price that would make the WiI U's price seem unreasonable, especially considering how much 360/PS3s cost right now.
I still don't think $299/$349 is extremely high considering what you're getting and still compared to the PS3 not even being $100 less.
SolidTy abHS4L88 The problem is, Nintendo has been hush hush about the Wii U for months. Then at the last minute announce the price and everything, and even then we don't know everything. I love Nintendo to pieces, I don't want to see them fail. But thinking of the position they are in, I have to think that most of the people at the top are dealing with feelings of uncertainty. "Is the Wii U going to do good? Are we going to crumble and fail?" I wish I could be like some people who can blindly follow a company to the ends of the earth, but there are times where I just don't have the means to do it.
NoelXYeul SolidTy
They've done it with the Wii, revealing the price and release date two months before launch.
I'm pretty sure the executives at Nintendo aren't thinking that because if they do, then they will most certainly not do well, plus Reggie and Iwata have shown nothing but confidence for the Wii U.
I'm not one to blindly follow anyone, I go to whoever gives me the product that I find appealing and right now, the Wii U looks very appealing to me. Before it was the 360. I like new ideas, new ways to play which is why I have been more towards Nintendo in the past few years whereas I absolutely loved Sega/Sony growing up because I just played fighting games, RPGs, platformers and action games.
