Right now, all eyes are on XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and for good reason -- it's sounding surprisingly promising. But what of 2K Marin's first-person XCOM? As nice as it is to only have to focus on one of the two, I'm more curious about the latter game. There's so much we don't know about it.
The mystery deepens with screenshots and information taken from a marketing survey that were sent to Kotaku by a reader. Apparently, XCOM is still being worked on, though it has -- or is at least contemplating -- going third-person. Would such a shift even matter to skeptics?
Additionally, the survey asked how respondents would react to XCOM being sold digitally as a $29.99 download rather than a full-blown retail release. Now I'm even more interested in playing this.
The Other XCOM Game Might Now Be a Third-Person Shooter [Kotaku]

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
The answer is that, if you're going to make a new thing, make a new thing. Don't make something new then attach some random old IP to it just because it's available. All you'll do is piss off old fans and screw up the expectations.
To bad all the shitty forums on the internet exploded over a re-imagining even though Enemy Unknown was already in development.
I just hope that all the super weird geometric stuff and mystery is still there
And whilst Bioshock was good, Bioshock 2 proved that it lost it's lustre the second time around.
That was one of the problems with it, beyond "we have slapped this old name that we think people recognise onto our game because we know we couldn't sell it on its own merits", it was clearly just 2K Marin copying other people's homework again, this time with the names rubbed out.
And then they made the second trailer, and it was "Hey gaiz, we made Mass Effect, but first person".
guess not.
Ah well. I'll check that version out, but who gives a damn? ENEMY UNKNOWN NEXT WEEK. YEAHHHHH.
