I miss start/select. Bad move cancelling this.

nurse_tsunami 66 pts

Bah, I didn't realize S/S was being DC'd.  I really liked this show as a quick wrap up of all the news I'd missed.  I haven't had the time to cruise GS as much as I'd like but this offered a nice way to get up to speed.  Plus it was funny as hell...

edussz 29 pts

I totally disagree! Watching GS News with a 2 minutes, boring news segment isn't the way to go. GS News still isn't as fast as the writen news, and not funny at all! I think you were scare as Jane left, and panic! Also, if you really going to keep GS News, AT LEAST put a section of the videos on the videos tab.But killing Star/Select is definety not the way to go!

DavidtheBard 7 pts

Getting rid of start/select in favor of fragmented, difficult to find videos that LITERALLY read exactly what the words in the article say is a bad move. I can read every bit of information that GameSpot News piece is about to deliever before the video is even loaded. Start/Select wasn't about lightning fast news reporting; it was about grouping all of the important news of the day in an easy to locate place, and then delivering that news to viewers with the absolute best personalities in game journalism. Don't throw that away GameSpot. Please.(small tear)

StillMoe 7 pts

I never seem to be able to keep up with news as it comes out. It used to be part of the routine to watch a week worth of start/select at a time to catch up on the highlights

trashbatted 10 pts

GS News seems to have disappeared as quickly as it arrived. Have the rest of you gone to Outside Xbox as well?

Thumbler76 123 pts

this is a real pity. I'm sad twice: for Jane and for Start Select. It was really fun and interesting. Yes, now there is GS news, but it doesn't have the same impact. Feedbackula is a good weekly program, but in it there is no real news, just comments and comments about comments and so on.

CieloPerso 43 pts

No comment. *trying to pretend like I'm not really, really, really disappointed*

I miss having all the new in one place, each day with entertaining hosts. GS news is just a video of the articles and we do not even know how many there are going to be or when they are uploaded. With Start Select we could plan to hear all the news in one show, instead of searching for it, and get entertained by this show in the process.

Please bring back start select, it is a pain to search and watch loads of videos to find out if there is any news I wanted to know. I only know of IGN's daily fix that does the same thing, and that is not as good.

jsmoke03 174 pts

DOW161 totally agreed....and bring back jane douglas!

Outrun74 11 pts

If the gamespot crew are listening, PLEASE bring back at least a weekly show and Jane if possible and it will be happy days!

fartmoo 9 pts

I enjoyed start select and am sad to see it go, but if gs news and feedbackula are going to replace it at least give them a section in the video tabs please.

trashbatted 10 pts

I think killing Start/Select is a massive mistake. It was the main reason I came to GS each day.

Feedbacula doesn't interest me in the slightest, the feed back was always the weakest part of S/S anyway, while GS News looks cheap and rushed because that's what it is.

The idea that you need to get GS News clips out quickly is frankly ridiculous, you are not Sky News covering a hostage crisis. If there is a story that you want to get out quickly, then can I suggest you write it down as you always have and publish is as an article. I'd much rather get a round up at the end of the day than watch four different GS News spots.

I'm sure the reasons behind this are commercial, and maybe changing the format will drive more traffic through the site, though I for one will be checking back less often.

Just promise me you won't touch Escape From Mount Stupid.

What no more Start/Select !!!!! WTF i left IGN because of this Show

slycatch 112 pts

Boo Gamespot.

At least give us a weekly gaming news show. Something with like 30 minutes long.

We loved Start/Select not only because of the news but also because of the show itself. The people doing it were amazing :D Many thanks to them.

I really don't care about Gs news. It's lame and the conception of it doesn't seem as sharp as Start/Select.

garalao 32 pts

it's not all about the news! I would watch episodes about lame games that I couldn't possibly care less about (I'm talking to you race games) but I knew you'd present things in such a way that I would watch? and laugh. This is going to seriously cut the amount of times a week I look at gamespot.

amdreallyfast 94 pts

garalao Seriously.  I just checked here semi-daily to hear about various pieces of news presented in an entertaining way.  Coming for news was only the half of it.  You combine humor and journalism and personal opinion into an entertaining news segment.  I didn't care if the news was several hours or even a day old because I wasn't checking it all the time.  I think that you guys are leaving your niche and attempting to enter the world of fast journalism, which, in my opinion, is already full enough.  There are not enough of you guys.  And to think that I will not be able to hear about your reaction to this on Start Select again.  A right shame, that is!

Scorpion1813 401 pts

Does this "GS News" have it's own page like Start Select does, because I haven't seen any GS News episodes yet and don't even know where to find them?!

Scorpion1813 401 pts

In fact, any regular show should have it's own page. That way we can simply bookmark it and quickly check it for new updates. That was one of the best things about SS: being able to quickly check for a new update and get a summary of gaming news in one place.

gekki37 12 pts

Scorpion1813I agree, some of their regular shows and podcasts dont even have their own page. It's always a pain to find them.

scooby_kitesurf 9 pts

Going the wrong way guys....In fact daily Start / Select was too much. there was far too much filler and not enough news. (see the number of inane Seb inserts in most shows) Most people have jobs / hobbies / lives that do not involve checking the gamespot web site every 2 hours.Twitter proves that "immediate" information is of little use, 99.9% of all Twitter posts are missed.

You'd be far better looking at a weekly round up, with less effort put into graphics and filler, more actual useful content.LOVE the podcast and a "fatter" Start Select would rock...

Outrun74 11 pts

I agree with Scooby, at least a weekly start select roundup would be good!

slycatch 112 pts

scooby_kitesurf Completely agree with you mate. Daily Start / Select is a very cool way to see the news daily. Even if sometimes it isn't remotely interesting.

As you said a lot of us work and don't have the time or patience for scrolling the website for news. I actually started to go to the competition for daily news, but I did like gamespot ones so much more.

Outrun74 11 pts

For what its worth, not sure what is going on behind the scenes but it seems a great shame! I have used gamespot as my number 1 choice for games reviews/videos for years now. Start select filled a great gap for gaming video shows since gamesmaster LOL and ive enjoyed the quality / humour. It was devastating when Jane left, and now this... I cannot handle the ign videos for longer than a minute, too annoying so will have to look elsewhere..? I will keep my gamespot uk bookmark but feel disappointed about this- please reconsider, You are the best!

slycatch 112 pts

Outrun74 Yeah in fact i do agree that gamespot is soo much better than Ign. The people in Gamespot seem more true and factual even with all the jokes in between. But I have to admit that I been going to Ign for every day news than to gamespot. In certain ways it fils the gap, but not in style that gamespot as given us.

petebot 9 pts

I think they have dropped a clanger here. I'm in my [ :( ] late twenties and I don't have time and to be honest, the inclination to check the GS website regularly. Through s/s and the podcast and their iTunes feeds, GameSpot was pretty much guaranteed to get themselves (and more importantly, adverts) in my ears and eye balls on a weekly or daily basis when I watched/listened to their output on my commute. Now I don't have those options (looks like the podcast has also died without warning) I'm frankly a lost demographic to the site.

I'll miss start/select and the daily digest of news it brought which helped me feel like I could keep up to date with games despite the fact I hardly get time to play them.

Grisu77 11 pts

RIP.

First NSync, now Start/Select. Can it get any better?

How about adding a Windows 8 GUI to the front page? Then we have all the news right at our fingertips. ;)

SolanOcard 64 pts

Well that's funny, I skip about 99% of all GS news clips. I like to read my news, but I like to have it presented and discussed further in often funny video segments, as a companion to the news, not the news itself. Feedbackula is not enough for me. I need my daily fix of humour and video games. It wouldn't be so bad if you had a few new features on than feebackula... maybe something 3 days a week? look, now I am bargaining, I must be going through the 5 stages of grieft (just not in the right order). BTW, where is Feedbackula this week? It is 1:21GST, so 6:21 in whatever you call your time zone... kinda late in the day not to have it up and running, no?

DF667 7 pts

unfortunately i havent really bothered with gamespot since start/select ended, having news scattered all over the place makes some of it easy to miss. bring back s/s its what the people want and i dont wanna see this site go under :(

warhawk-geeby 392 pts

I eat a strange smelling banana whilst watching this last episode..

From this day forward strange smelling bananas will always remind me of Start/Select.  Sad times indeed :'(

DOW161 110 pts

Start Select had entertainment value, GS news does not. So please stop the GS, or not, and bring back our favourite show.

Start Select had it all; the humour, the news, and it was daily. Now we have GS news which seems to be whenever and has no humour. But has the exact article read out to us.

waykanbake 7 pts

Personally I don't need to hear, seconds after an announcement, that something is going to happen in a few years.  For a while now I have enjoyed digesting my news nugget when I get home from work - cup of tea and a bit of a chuckle with Start/Select, a great start to the evening!

sirkibble2 218 pts

We want Start/Select. That is all.

thribs 154 pts

No one watches it for the news. You've seem to have forgotten that.

Signor-Sausage 12 pts

thribs Exactly what I thought when I watched this.  It seems as though they have misunderstood the appeal of the show. The news was interesting but it was definitely second to the entertainment factor.

Plus there was the added excitement of the feedback section in Super Start/Select where, if your spelling was bad enough, and your opinion idiotic enough you might, just might have your comment read out for all the world to see. I suppose Feedbackula does have that covered.

Either way Gamespot, if the new ideas don't work out, don't be too proud to bring back S/S. It happened for Futurama and Family Guy, right? There's even a new Red Dwarf coming up soon. For future reference I see Johnny as Arnold Rimmer.

JoeyTrib1550 14 pts

Are you kidding?!

Replacing Start/Select for GS News and Feedbackula?!

So instead of looking forward to a (almost) daily funny episode of Start/Select to keep me updated, I can now look forward to intermittend updates via GS News, so I have to basically check every other hour and watch a read-off-a-piece-of-paper newsflash?

The "news" maybe "old" by when you submit a new Start/Select episode, but only for the people who haben't spent all day looking for any news!

I want to look for news ONCE a day, not every other hour! And don't look forward to watching 10 "newsflashes" everyday, where is the entertainment value in there?!

PS: the "almost" was only concering the "daily", not the "funny" :)

rain_ishigawa 23 pts

I have an idea for a show, back in the 90's there was this video game show named "Video Power" which was full of everything bad during the 90's but at it's core it was a awesome video game show, why not make a similar show? Incidentally. the show's host was "Johnny" Arcade and he also had a very Seb like partner

PadreSteven 14 pts

The problem with GS News is that it's boring. If I want bland just-breaking news on anything, I'll read an article about it, not watch a video. Start-Select combined a number of useful things (news, humour, pretty faces [sometimes], community feedback, personality) into a very fun and entertaining show. If your goal is to deliver "more video content" to us, then you can break up Start-Select's constituent parts all you like, but I doubt you'll ever find the magic that Start-Select had without just remaking Start-Select under a different name.  This is a case of quantity vs. quality, and I would love to see the GS UK opt for producing quality content rather than just a bunch of useless 'busy work' videos.  In many ways, Start-Select was greater than the sum of its parts, and I'm sorry to see that you guys haven't realized that.

ghandi16 18 pts

I'd never heard of GS news until watching this video, and after 5 minutes of looking I finally found it. The sad thing is I really love using this site, but it was start select that brought me back every day and now I'm finding myself popping in only once every few days. GS news just doesn't cut it for me, the presenters look like their being coerced into doing the segments and I guess I just miss listening to a nice british accent!

- Make GS news more visible

- Make GS news more entertaining

badstyle 30 pts

You should compile this stuffage into a weekly roundup - I'm too busy to keep on top of my gaming news in the day I work hard so I can buy me some gamz0rz....

Verenti 135 pts

The problem with GS news is that it's horrible. WAIT JOHNNY! DON'T HIT ME WITH YOUR FEEDBACKULA CANE... Ahem. No, I'm serious though. Reeeeally don't want to be senselessly beaten. But GSNews often have presenters who... can't speak. They are likely really good writers, and very nice people but... let's just be nice and say some people should not be put infront of a camera. Public speaking is a skill and a talent and if you're going to put people infront of a camera make sure they have speech training. Seriously, for our sakes. You need to make sure more than one of the staff in San Fransisco can talk without being monotone or akward. Secondly, you are loosing things from start/select. The community of having it all in the same place and the entertainment value, which is what made Start/Select itself. The news in the GSNews format isn't entertaining, so why would I prize it over just... reading the article? In my view that StartSelect was fun to watch is what we all kept coming back for, and the news kept giving us things to discuss, allowing us to interact with each other and with the staff in a (sometimes) civilised manner, and the feedback made us feel like we were part of the "family". You weren't talking at us, you were talking TO us. This is what feedbackula doesn't accomplish, nor any disagregated model. It doesn't create a space for fans, and distances us from the medium. Feedbackula, as much as I love Johnny, isn't about us. It's about everyone else, some of which are only tangentally related to the Gamespot and Start/Select families. It's too broad of a focus. A restarted Start/Selct should, if not on the daily news, focus on value added contribution to the news, such as analysis and interviews, while keeping the the presentation entertaining and, this is really important, keeping user participation. This is not television, this is an interactive medium. Use the interactivity. We will love you for it. This has been me, it's been great. I've really enjoyed the year I spent with Start/Select (Shit, that'd be a great movie!)

Change is scary, and I don't like it :(

Oh well, at least we still have Danny putting some effort in with EfMS.

Caravellie 54 pts

I have an idea, why don't you do both GS News AND a new form of Start Select? You could have a new video series of daily news but also voice your opinions and reactions to the news. GS news can be the formal news and the video series would be fun and informal.

I think it'd be informative hearing different opinions and takes on stories and it'd be nice having a opinion/personality based video segments.

Caravellie 54 pts

The problem with GS News is that you have to take your time to read through stuff and decide what's important. Start Select delivered all the relevant news in a comprehensible, short, and fun package. I don't understand why anyone would stop Start Select, since the series really got better and received more attention from the community over time but I sincerely hope that another "news show" will come back in some form or another. Long Live Start Select! Love live the SS!

coliraby 41 pts

I have stumbled across the Gamespot news videos once or twice as I was jonesing for new in the absence of start/select... the problem with gamespot news is that I have no idea when or where to find it. I perfer my news in once easy to access start/select flavored package.
