Max Payne 3 hostage negotiation DLC landing October 30
DLC will add four new multiplayer maps, new items, and two new weapons; the pack will be free for Rockstar Pass owners; will cost either 800 Microsoft Points or $9.99 on PSN and PC.
After an initial delay earlier this year, Rockstar is finally ready to release the next instalment of Max Payne 3 multiplayer DLC.
The Hostage Negotiation Pack will be released across all platforms on Tuesday, October 30.
The Hostage Negotiation DLC will add four new multiplayer maps (Club Moderno, Estadio Do Galatians, O Palacio Strip Club, and Favela Heights), as well as three new items: Intimidation Mask (slows down opponents' reload time), Bomb Suit (protects against explosive damage), and Explosive Burst (creates fiery booby traps).
Additionally, the Hostage Negotiation DLC for Max Payne 3 will add two new weapons to players' arsenals. These include the M24 Sniper Rifle and the IA2 Assault Rifle.
The DLC will be free for those who hold a $30 Rockstar Pass, which unlocks all planned add-on content for Max Payne 3, and will cost either 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE or $9.99 on PlayStation Network and PC.
I love this game, but I just quit trying to play the multiplayer. It's completely riddled with cheaters and modders. And because the sales were not that great, Rockstar doesn't want to get rid of them for fear of loosing critical mass. Of course it has to be free for Pass owners. they paid for the pass, and have little to show for it.
I'm surely not the only one thinking that Rockstar could've at least tried to also please the singleplayer fans they have (or should I say had), that don't care about multiplayer at all.
As an example with this "hostage negotiation" DLC, I could imagine the following offline singleplayer version of it :
- the same maps that have been created for the multiplayer version of it
- random AI hostage positions
- random AI guard positions
- random AI patrols
- you being "inserted" into the map at a randomly selected position
- your mission being to find and rescue the hostage(s) to a safe-zone
And there you go, offline singleplayer fun with even some replayability value due to a bit of randomization.
Offline singleplayer fans of the game would've been pleased without that much development overhead for Rockstar, but instead they chose to piss on them by only releasing multiplayer DLCs and leaving the rest with the fully linear stock "game" (in quotes because actual interaction is about 2-ish hours, rest is forced watching of unskippable cutscenes).
I still can't believe all the hate Max Payne 3 is getting. The single player is phenomenal, minus the overuse of cutscenes, gameplay is awesome, and the multiplayer was definitely innovative. It had a lot of connection issue but still, great once you found a good game. I'll admit, I am a pretty big fanboy of Rockstar, but how can anyone not be in a world with EA, Activision, and THQ?
Well, this is nice for fans...if they are playing this game online.
This is the only game that I've wanted to play online, but most of the time I couldn't because the player pool was about 200 players, spread across 6 multiplayer modes.
No one plays this game online...
I liked the single player, but overall, this game was underwhelming.
The single player was crap compared to 1 & 2. The multiplayer was laughable at best with more than half the scant population playing in soft lock servers. The gunplay was also weak and wonky compared to other TPS's
this game single player was a big flop and a pain to go through it just did not feel like the older games.
Biggest disappointment of the year for me, just cutscene after cutscene with barely any gameplay.
Tixylixx Bitch please, ever heard of Metal Gear Solid 4?
System4Ever That "game" sucks too but at least it has some depth to it.
I don't get all the hate people have for this game.. this was easily my pick for Game of the Year. Rockstar is capable of fantastic multiplayer, and if you ask me, Max Payne 3 proves that.. most people just won't give them a true chance. RDR had some of the best multiplayer I've ever played, though initially I wasn't much of a fan. I really wish I would have played GTA IV multiplayer during its peak, because like many, I simply didn't give it a chance. If I'm being completely honest, the only people I've seen whining about how bad the multiplayer was in MP3 are the same ones who, quite frankly, just aren't very good at it. I have a solid 2.71 K/D with nearly 10k kills and I'm still having a blast with it. But hey, to each their own.
yearssomuch but you see, the first two mp games were great beacuse of the single player (story, character development, mood, gameplay mechanics). The third one is not bad it is just forgettable. Most of the people loved it for the mp period. At least rdr had a beautiful story and ending. I didn't even played the rdr's mp, beacuse i didn't have to, the story was enough. gta4 also had a nice story. In the last Max Payne i forgot what it was all about in the second i unistalled the game. Now that shouldn't happen when you invest a number of hours in a game. I've said it before, the only thing noir in this Max Payne was his beard.
yearssomuch You are comparing apples to oranges. R* does open world multiplayer rather well. That's one thing. Let me tell you why me and some friends of mine sold our copies a month after release. The game constantly crashed our PS3s. Booting the game and actually finding a server that we could connect to would take 10 minutes. While in the game, glitchy character controls would make our avatars do crazy stuff while we weren't even touching our controllers. Graphics wise, character models were mediocre and the textures were done with render-to-texture straight from the modelling program without any effort put into it. And don't get me started on the singleplayer. I could predict everything that was coming a mile off. This was Rockstar's attempt at getting in the casual shooter market. They've succeeded. This game lacks soul, direction and at the end of the day, it's just not worth either the time nor the money. Give the reigns back to Remedy already, Rockstar, you've done enough damage.
scarletsnake troy1108 As an avid fan of Remedy (Alan Wake is the single most underrated game this generation) and more importantly Sam Lake's writing; AND as someone who claims to have completed the first Max Payne well over fifty times since it got released in 2001, I will say this...Max Payne 3's story, characterization and writing are above and beyond anything that the first two games displayed. This game shows the natural progression (if you can even call it that) of the titular character after the traumatic events of the first two games; it's no retread, not a rehash as most sequels and some reboots often fall prey to.
Take it from a longtime Payne fan who's grown weary and cynical towards shooters this generation, this game is great. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but as I've said before, anyone who's looking for a great story and writing, and shooting that feels sincere and brutal, rather than dull and repetitive, should check this game out.
yearssomuch You play in soft lock?
yearssomuch K/D Ratio doesn't mean shit in terms of how enjoyable the MP for a game is. I've witnessed so many negative K/D players in COD or Halo who keep playing the game regardless because it's FUN.
So glad I didn't burn $60 on this. The walkthrough vids were cool to watch, but the hype surrounding this game is no match for the reality, a bargain bin pick up or a solid rental.
HipHopBeats Bought it on release. Massively disappointed. Sold it a month later. Now bought it for 1/3 the price on ebay, just for the free dlc.
Man, my interest in this game died faster than a fly flying into an inferno. I have complete faith in Rockstar, but I can't bring myself to buy this game for 10-15 hours and then it will collect dust. No MP for me.
tightwad34 You should, bro. Max Payne 3 is and experience you will never forget.
tightwad34 I bought this game exactly a week ago at full price and I picked it up on a whim over both XCOM AND Dishonored (either of which I'd been pining to play for weeks). I literally started cursing at myself as soon as I came back home and realized the stupid mistake I had made picking up a six month old game that I'd probably gun through in about a weekend, over two recent releases that could've provided me with hours upon HOURS of game time, at the least. And then I put the disc in...
As a perpetually strapped-for-cash kinda guy who always prioritizes replayability in games as a prime purchasing factor, I can honestly and wholeheartedly recommend Max Payne 3 to any gamer who has even in iota of respect for narrative integrity; because I just realized that gameplay variety or longevity does not necessarily equate to replayability. While the game may not invoke the same sort of water-cooler conversations I have with my friends over games with more malleable mechanics, Max Payne 3's story, characters and tone lead to a different kind of conversation, the kind of conversation I had with them after watching an episode of 'Breaking Bad' or reading an issue of 'Y: The Last Man'.
In conclusion, I may not have convinced you to play the game let alone purchase it but I can guarantee you this, this game will not be collecting dust on my shelf anytime soon.
never-named
You make a hell of an argument. I may check it out if I have absolutely nothing else I want to play and I can get it on the cheap. Like real cheap. You should still definitely get X-Com.
4 maps and 2 guns for $10 gtfo
The DLC has been pretty lackluster for the most part so far; you would think a Raul/Max PvE mode would be pretty much a given this late into the game's release by now!
this game still sucks balls
buccomatic
I dunno if it sucks, it's the very low replay value that really killed it for me. And the fact that I won't do multiplayer also kills it. Unless one of my friends gets this I will try and borrow it. That seems unlikely because none of them have a PS3.
Where the hell is the damn co-op DLC
LazyyAmerican COMING SOON
I really don't get the point of multiplayer season passes. Most games nowadays that aren't CoD or Battlefield have a very short life when it comes to their multiplayer community. People play a game for a couple of months and move on to the next big game with over-hyped multiplayer.
catsimboy The point is to MAKE MONEY cuz they are a company that has to produce profits aka the more money they can get, the better.
That's like you asking WHY do players buy a game DAY 1 when they can wait 1 year and buy it for $20 or less NEW.
Where the hell is Dead Man Walking?!
sinistergoggles That's the only question I'm concerned about. Multiplayer DMW with customizable loadouts and enemies, hello? Do they not like money or something?
There are still people playing that crappy attempt at online multiplayer that is max payne ? Only reason people played it online in the first place was for the trophies/achievements, after they got it, they never touched the mp again, and with reason. Rockstar should really focus on single player experience, they just don't have it for online mp, at least not for the kind of games they make.
jack00 Speak for yourself, one of this games biggest selling points for me was its multiplayer. I don't ever play multiplayer for trophy's, especially not MP3. I picked it up on launch and still regularly go back to it. But just out of curiosity, if you don't mind my asking.. what is your idea of a well-designed multiplayer game?
How about more singleplayer content?
modernsocks And that would be, what exactly? This game more or less wrapped up Max's story, there's nothing else to tell.
megadeth1117 modernsocks
There is always things to tell and do with Max Payne's story. The first game wrapped itself and yet we still got 2 more games out of it. If you think there is nothing else to do with Max Payne's story then you greatly lack imagination my poor friend.
megadeth1117 modernsocks Dead Man Walking.
megadeth1117 you are too naive
modernsocks More singleplayer content is never a bad thing, but if Rockstar do decide to include some I doubt it would be anything that furthers the story, as the game wrapped up really neatly without needing any further elaboration. A new difficulty mode maybe?
and this will carry the paid DLC total up to about $25. Still not the $30 the Season Pass thing costed.
And I've had to almost totally ignore Max Payne 3's multiplayer, cause for one it takes so long to load to get into a game, and that is if you dont get kicked back to the main menu while its loading you in. Oh, it also has to start a fresh load to tell you there was some connection error. And I'm on a 30mbps cable connection with NAT 2, so tell me its my internet thats the problem.
I doubt any more than a couple hundred people still play Max Payne 3 online. They totally messed up the matchmaking from the beginning. And if the community is turned away from the beginning, there's almost no way to recover it.
PayneKiller Oh come on.. Look, I don't like the idea of a Season Pass either, so I didn't buy it. But if you researched even a little bit you could easily find all of the planned content they have coming out. People still nitpicking at the Season Pass for not living up to its promise are starting to sound like babies, find another argument. As for your connection, sounds like an issue with your PS3 maybe? I'm running on 3mbps DSL and that doesn't happen unless it's an issue on my end.
These items should have been included to begin with. MP3 only has 3 or 4 maps to play online with to start. Having to pay all this money for extra maps that should be included already just goes to show you how Rockstar has lost integrity.
I didn't even know there was a multiplayer for Max Payne 3.
thribs I know. Hard to believe since single player was more cut-scenes than gameplay.. I didn't like the fact that joining their silly social network was required to play single-player only. This industry trend towards multiplayer emphasis needs to end.
SingletreeAve thribs Agreed; but I'm genuinely surprised by the amount of fun I've been having with the multiplayer component of MP3 so far. Gives me hope that GTA V's multiplayer will be something to look forward to!
never-named SingletreeAve thribs Exactly, I don't get the hate people sling around for this games multiplayer. Playing this only excited me even more for GTA V.
