What does a remaster mean to a game released in 2004? We shine some light on what has been improved in Doom 3 BFG Edition. Also, shadows.
Stop trying to sell something I already own! Pfff... remastered... Get to work on Doom 4 already!
all those who see this video will not buy this game. maybe they will buy vanilla version.
the only fault with doom 3 was that a marine couldnt hold a flashlight and a pistol at the same time?! HELLO? it would be better if they only fixed that about the flashlight, that the pistol is the only weapon where you could have your flashlight out at the same time.
I dont get what this guys issue is. I remember when the game came out, one of the biggest complaints was that it was TOO dark. You generally couldn't see what the hell you were doing half the time and it hampered much of the game's enjoyment.
I like the fact that the contrast has been toned down a bit. The shadows were TOO black, and probably one of the biggest caveats in gaming history was the fact that this futuristic setting on Mars did not have the capabilities to have weaponry with built in flashlights. Which gave birth to the "Duct Tape" mod on PC. This is a huge improvement, regardless of what anyone says.
Shameless cash-in. Fan-made texture packs are WAY better than the ones in BFG Edition.
Lighting engine has gone to being more pre-baked? Also the lack of soft shadows in Doom 3 really did help its style, surprisingly.
Bright or dark, I want this.
doom 3 Far cry HL2 where against eachother at the time :)
Psy_m_on nothing was against HL2
LeoLex_ Psy_m_on yeah nothing came close to half life 2 at that time lol not even doom 3 sorry.
you cant have the tourch on all the time the bat run out pretty fast
i have the bfg edition and yes do get if your a doom fan . yes the tourch is not the same but wothout the tourch on its as dark as doom 3
if u wont shadows play the bfg edition without ever turning the tourch on
Wow, what a loser.
What about Doom 4232214
this guy is rubbish as doing the voice over, it sounds like he has hiccups or something
sigh... this re-release isn't about overhauled graphics, so this comparison is pointless. while it does come with tweaks and optimizations, this is the first game that supports the Oculus Rift, a new revolutionary VR headset.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1523379957/oculus-rift-step-into-the-game
it will still be a while until the commercial version will be available, but it will be awesome.
still, if you never played Doom3, this is worth buying, as it's a pretty good game; and the VR headset will create some epic immersion.
nelvus VR headset can create some epic heart attacks
can we put mods in the bfg?
Is it just me or does Doom3 really seem more difficult as compared to modern FPS games?
gamefreak215jd
It's not you, that game is actually hard.
I have played a bit of Doom3,meaning I haven't finished it.I had a problem with my PC and I forgot about the game by the time I got it back.So is the BFG version worth trying out?
No, I liked the sarcastic voiceover :) Said everything I felt needed to be said
@Lei_11 text was good, voice was weird, was like ot was timewarped, fast.. slow..pause..fast.. slow...pause.. slow... fast
Minasodrom Lei_11 hahah now that you mention it, yea it really is XD But I wasn't disturbed by this. Hell, I even like it.
The regular GS speaking voice is pretty good and professional, but bores me, so this is a welcome break for me.
Andy Bauman, while I appreciate your video contribution - I'd like it to be without the sarcastic "voiceover" or whatever that was. It feels and sounds cheap, where Gamespot comments usually are not. I believe players watching this video are smart and adult enough to make their own judgement of the game, based on your video, without the sarcastic comments.Your video does make a valid point, with and without the sarcasm.
Yes the new flashlight idea is stupid and somewhat ruins the atmosphere, especially with the ridiculously brighter lighting system, but so what? I'll just mess with the contrast and brightness until it looks the same.
Native widescreen, 120fps, new missions plus the expansion and the oldschools, proper 5.1 support, better textures + effects, the fabled no HUD/crosshair-stretch, better optimisation across the board with multi-core support, all for $20?
Yes, I'm in. Next question.
looks to me like the biggest ripoff in gaming history
Totally off topic but the GS reviewers have almost no charisma and are completly boring to listen to.
Anyway, Pretty psyched to see Doom 3 again.
A 2004 game running faster on computers built 8 years later?!? Impossible!!
Dumb ass.
I have the BFG Edition, and frankly consider it a waste of money. Outside of new lighting and the flashlight mod ( yes, remember having the flashlight all the time was a mod for original Doom 3? ), there's nothing redone or "remastered". Same (now) horrible character graphics, same ( well, they were "high res" 8 YEARS AGO lol ) low res textures ( now even more noticeable because you can stretch the screen to 1920x1080 ( newsflash: HD resolution for non-HD designed graphics = crap ).
Money grab, pure and simple.
mrboone01 I dont think this is what they tried to do with doom 3 bfg , i think it is more "a reintroduction" in doom world for the upcoming doom 4 , oh well they should have given this game for free if they whanted publicity :)
mrboone01 iD is lacking of new ideas. They had to exhume old ideas to gain money. Actually the devs are more brain dead than the zombies in Doom 3.
mrboone01 I agree. What I noticed in the ID sales hype for the BFG is that it's built for consoles. ID sold out to consoles just like most other game companies. The character animation hasn't been improved and as you say the textures are still low res and it's more apparent now. Stereoscopic 3d is good although I notice the depth can't be adjusted on the fly with the 3d Vision 2 depth wheel like it can in every other 3d game. Sadly another game "Optimised for consoles" (ugly textures).
mrboone01 Well, i like it.
running at 120 frames on the pc only, ps3 edition???. still got the original on xbox, but never finished it. will be buying this.
This guy is horrible to listen to. Does he not think he can either shut up or do a proper commentary, this sort of video doesn't really need a human talking over it, some text would suffice.
Why does he talk like that?!! It gets really annoying!
aiat_gamer do you really not understand??
@4:40 The chainsaw sounds like a phone on vibrate.
DrKill09 Exactly what I thought of.
I just bought this game for PS3. It's my first time playing a Doom game of any kind and I have to say that I'm having a "hell" of a good time! (I'm sorry if someone else already used this pun earlier in the thread. =\)
LMFAO!
great video and even better commentary!
they should be working on RAGE II or helping make fallout 4. IMO
i wish you guys at gamespot would do these types of commentary when the game studio's and publishers release all the BS dlc for their games. the dlc scams are far worse than this. think of it... video gamers all throughout the land would unite and rejoice!
:)
buccomatic rage 2? dont hold your breath for that one....
JaJDoo buccomatic They announced Rage 2 way before Rage 1 even came out, its already in development.
duron2 hopefully it will beat least 30 hours long
rage was awesome except for how it ended right when it started to get going.
the game ended literally right when i was thinking to myself, "i'm ready for another 30-40 hours of this!" press the button - cg cutscene - the end?! WHAAAAT!!?
Do yourself a favor and skip to 3:20 for the actual comparison and the end of the sputtering commentary.
This was definitely the most annoying thing I have ever watched.
he definitely...has a way...of stopping...a...sentence....in.....strange places? but i do enjoy the comparison videos
i hated it at the time, but now that i see the BFG edition, i love that flashlight in the original doom 3. :)
