If you are using the Feedback Form to respond to a petition about Repealing the Travel Management Plan on CHANGE.ORG, please take a minute to read the following information:

NO ROADS WERE CLOSED on the Deschutes or Ochoco National Forests and the Crooked River National Grassland under the Travel Management Plan.

There are approximately 8,000 OPEN miles of road and more than 350 OPEN miles of motorized trails on the two National Forests and National Grassland under the decision.

The main issue addressed in the Travel Management Plan was not closing roads, but limiting travel OFF ROADS (cross-country travel) due to user conflicts and resource damage, though cross country travel is still allowed in 45 areas designated OPEN for cross-country travel.

We had 4+ years of public involvement in the process and engaged a wide number of individuals and user groups in the planning process.

Because we are in the first stages of implementing the Travel Management Plan we are focused on educating everyone about how to use the maps, correcting errors on the maps, and reviewing the size and scale of maps.

We are aware that there are on-the-ground issues we need to address and we are listening to people's specific on-the-ground issues and addressing those issues as we move forward into implementation.

We will only fine individuals who understand the changes to cross-country travel or motorized use and continue to blatantly cause resource damage. If we do fine an individual the fine is $150 NOT $5,000.
