I never played the original , but thought of giving the demo a try cause it was form the creators of civilization .the first mission I was not impressed and even considered ending it but thought of trying the second mission,  the second reeled me in a bit more and then the demo ended and i wanted more, now just waiting to get my hands on 1

Amazing game for me is the Best game i have played this year and one of the greatest games i have ever played, an instant classic.

radcrab123 80 pts

for the next dlc they should make a extra mission where you get to find out where the aliens came from and why they invaded

oflow 258 pts

I enjoy the game its a much needed break from all the FPS games.  Only problem I have with it is the wonky camera. Maybe its just me but the camera is really hard to control when dealing with movement on the inside of multi level buildings.

vfibsux 40 pts

oflow It's not just you, the camera is not only bad but limiting as well.

CatAtomic999 65 pts

I cannot wait to see what they do with DLC for this new XCOM. Best game I've played in ages.

buccomatic 1601 pts

CatAtomic999 dlc = want more maps, missions and more weapons.

patch= fix the shooting through walls and fix the %CTH/RNG

it's what i'm hoping for.

Finally, a real XCOM. Now I want to gather my friends and do a traditional marathon with each of us taking control of a soldier and all the base decisions being taken from consensus. Those were the days and finally I can have a taste of that again.

Poodlejumper 296 pts

Loved the original. Love this one. Cannot wait for Xenonauts as well (Starhawk Interactive's take back to the original). Don't really see the "dumbing down" that some are screaming about. If they want to see " "dumbing down" then play Dragon Age Origins followed by Dragon Age 2. I wanted to cry when I played DA2. I cannot believe I actually want to see some DLC happen here. I hate DLC but I want more XCOM. Would like to see more stats in the soldiers and alients like the original. -More aliens, -More classes of soldiers. -More missions

MooncalfReviews 517 pts

They made the aliens looks too cartoony. What happened to the old horrifying aliens from the original game? The ones you crapped your pants to catch a mere glimpse of in the shadows?

pr0teu5 11 pts

MooncalfReviews  Like what? Chryssalid? It's as much horrigying as the oiriginal ones. This don't actually look like a Alien(s) ripoff :) The old is "horrifying" because their skills, and that hans't change. Also Sectopod actually look way better, more scary then the original ones. And "Thinman" is really creepy. Personally I always feel the old Muton and snakeman is really cartoonish. But after playingApocalypse, I don't feel that anymore :D-But I would have like to see more none-humannoid alien(other then new Chryssalid).

 MooncalfReviews

Dude what are you talking about, in the orginal the sectoids looked like little grey teddy bears, the mutons looked like pink humans in green jumpsuits. The aliens are much better now, I do wish they moved more inbetween turns, it was scary to hear doors open and closing and seeing the shadows lurk just outside of the fog of war, but hey whatever I'm just glad they brought it back and it's still really good.

SwiftusMaximus 93 pts

Here's a tip, don't build the hyperwave relay in single player, then you can extend your game time by 10 fold. Good gaming :)

pr0teu5 11 pts

SwiftusMaximus Why would you want to drag it out? The Sp battle at end is way too easy, as players unit(playing on class/ironman)become very deadly.

OnTheRole 5 pts

This was my first matched I played online and it was a huge succes even though I had no idea what to pick. I had I max out SUPPORT, 3 regular floaters, and 1 sectoid against a 1/2 way sniper, muton bersker, and crystoid. I won with my support, and 2 floaters left.

Leefx 25 pts

Would have been a nice suprise to find out the original was also on the disc, this game just reminds me of how amazing the original enemy unknown was and I would have paid £5 or £10 to for a code to unlock it, still loving it though, pretty tired at work atm hehe!

PERVERTOR 12 pts

Berserker gets shot => gets mad => moves closer to assault soldier => Rapid Fire at point blank => ??? => Profit.

Get Iron Will from Officer Traning School (Not sure if possible in multiplayer) => Get Psi Soldier => with Mind Shield => get Support with Combat Drugs => Use Psi Inspiration => mind control a freaking Ethereal.

Oooooh and before I go....

please.... PLEASE for the SAKE OF ALL THAT IS SACRED AND PURE AND HOLEEEEEE

can we at least hope for a DLC ----->>>>>>TERROR OF THE FREEEKING DEEP>>>>>>>??????!!!!!!

Poodlejumper 296 pts

@keyb0red I'm for DLC but let's not kid ourselves about Terror of the Deep: It was a reskin...nothing more. I want DLC with more aliens, the capabilities to have more bases, more council missions, and perhaps some alternative story lines.

buccomatic 1601 pts

Poodlejumper  more maps and more researchable weapons also.

In the single player they have this drone walker that is an upgrade to the cyber disc.  Its totally overpowered.  Damn thing gets three turns to do anything, two move/attack turns and an overwatch turn.  Its range is practically impossible, it can see across the map practically and its aim is almost 100%.  The two times ive versed it, ive lost men to it and each of these were from one attack.  The game still does deserve the 8.5 rating but the game sucks when they cramp your men into tight quarters because it seems that your aim accuracy drops really bad when enemies are literally right in front of you and the enemy has better sight lines and attack probabilities.  outdoors at night time are bad too, I've had units stand right in front of a bad guy and still had a poor aim rating and still miss.  They need to revamp the system and buff the stats of that unit.  Its so bad that I didnt see it listed in the video about the enemy units because if it were available noone would use anything else.  It has like 25 hit points, with a like 10 to 18 attack strength.

 madgame23

It's not OP and its fairly easy to kill. But it demands you have a good position.

Change to pistol if your aim is bad up close. This will increase your accuracy significantly.

But you are in trouble if you havent upgraded your guns :)

PERVERTOR 12 pts

madgame23 its called a Sectopod and it gets a free overwatch if it doesnt moves, so use a assault with lightning reflexes to waste it's overwatch, then get a heavy with Heat Ammo at close to mid range, and suddenly your worst nightmare is down to 1/4 hp.

A sniper with double tap is also effective. even an assault with run & gun and rapid fire can do short work of it.

And also notice how the first thing it will almost always do is to try and land a cluster bomb shot wherever it has first seen one of you soldiers, giving the chance for you guys to get closer.

When you find this guy the first time you will likely already have Titan Armor and Plasma weapons, if not you're in deep trouble.

And SHIVs are a really bad idea against this guy. (dont know about the hover SHIV though, havent tested it)

Do the zombies not spawn an additional cryssalids after several turns in multi player like they do in single player?

I hope X-COM Apocalypse will be remade too. Such an awesome game where online battles would have even more potentiality since the diversity of different factions. Clever minds perhaps even could make Apocalypse nearly popular in e-sports as SC2 or LOL.

buccomatic 1601 pts

ty for the great video, KVO. i really enjoyed it, and it was very informative.

i want to buy this game so bad (right now) but i wish they would release some information on a patch to address the shooting through walls thing, the cover (you're not really covered) thing as well as the CTH/RNG thing that a lot of people are griping about on the steam forums.

am i wrong in saying these things are major issues, or are they minor and people are making a big deal out of nothing?

toderascu23 16 pts

buccomatic Most of the time you don't even notice them.

BrolyB593 9 pts

toderascu23  buccomatic Agreed. I have had a blast with this game since launch and I would definitely say these things are extremely minor. Take the plunge, you will not regret it with this awesome game!

---Cipher--- 257 pts

@buccomatic When I first noticed them, I thought they were a huge deal. It wasn't much later that I felt that, while still annoying, it wasn't such a huge deal to me. More of an annoyance IMO. Get it, you'll enjoy it.

buccomatic 1601 pts

---Cipher---  ok toderascu23, brolyb593 and cipher - thx so much for the replies, much appreciated!

naomha1 28 pts

buccomatic It is a major and valid complaint. One of the strengths of this game is that criticals and your percentage to hit is supposed to be within "line of sight". However, when you can shoot through a roof of a building and score a critical, much less an actual shot, is beyond me. When you are hiding behind full cover and you get it with a critical is simply crazy. How does the bad guy score a major hit when you're not even in line of sight? I love this game, I truly do. It's epic in scope and wicked fun to play, but a serious patch is needed to fix these "bugs". Right now, line of sight and the whole "cover" issue does need some patching. Also, I absolutely just love when all of a sudden I get a major panic I need to dispatch to and I'm outmanned and outgunned like 4-1.  I've had like 3 brutes, all of them with, what, 25 hit points just pound me. Then there's the Sectopod. I freaking hate those things. I really, really hate those things.

buccomatic 1601 pts

naomha1 yeah i got the game off steam and it's great - really like it so far.

and you're right, you can fire right through walls and such and %CTH/RNG is way out of spec. they might as well have not even put %CTH or upgrades for it in the game if it doesn't even count for anything. it's like playing wow mage in cataclysm (all RNG) and the way you spec almost doesn't count.

80%CTH = MISS! 39%CTH = RAAAAR! dead alien - doesn't even make sense...

BUT l love the game and am having a blast with it! definitely needs a patch, but man it's fun! glad i bought it, don't regret it at all. very cool game.

Simplythebest12 154 pts

Are they going to release any patch soon for this game

buccomatic 1601 pts

Simplythebest12 that's what i'm waiting for as well.

Avenger1324 72 pts

It would be really handy for multiplayer if you could setup and save multiple squads - so if you want to swap between 7.5k / 10k / 20k / unlimited battles, or have a human squad and an alien squad you could quickly switch, rather than having to create each unit again.

Kevin-V 907 pts moderator

Avenger1324 Fully agreed--I even mentioned it in the review. I get weary of having to manually switch between my favorite squads.

The_Great_Purge 39 pts

Kevin-V  Is that the reason why it got an 8.5 which should have been a 9 or 10? Generous rating huh?

Kevin-V 907 pts moderator

The_Great_Purge I wrote a full review that explains why XCOM is great. It's self-explanatory. Also: games don't start at 10 and have points marked off for getting things wrong.

The_Great_Purge 39 pts

Kevin-V Well I was thinking the way GS rates games starts from 10, then deducts each point per not meeting the standards for a great game.

mthree5150 11 pts

This is so dumbed down from the original X-Com. There has never been a game as addicting and skill-based, as the original X-Com. It's $10 on Steam. Anyone even thinking about buying this game, save your money and buy the better version.

Albaficas 459 pts

mthree5150 anyone can buy anything they want end of story

u dont like it ? dont comment.

anw this game is great...recomend to all those who love turn based games

Madball357 155 pts

 Albaficas  mthree5150

Why shouldn't he comment if he doesn't like it?

And he has a point, the original is a much, much better game. You obviously haven't played it if you recommend this turd to turn-base enthusiasts.

Poodlejumper 296 pts

@Madball357 @Albaficas @mthree5150 Call me insane but I happen to enjoy both equally. It's not that "dumbed down"...for the real "dumbed down" see Dragon Age 2.
