New Super Mario Bros. 2 sells 295,000 units in September

 kavadias1981 NSMB2 is actually pretty fun for what it offers. But I wouldn't pay full price for it if I were you. Wait until a price drop or pick it up used after a couple months have gone by.

 DiverseGamer I hate that as well. Even when the games go on sale on sites like Amazon, they're still a bit pricey. 

But I guess it's because Nintendo doesn't seem to believe in price drops half the time.

My guess would be because Nintendo never devalues their games with new releases. If you think about it, what game has Nintendo released that has ever rendered the previous entry obsolete or even "less fun?" especially with their main franchises. With Super Mario Galaxy 2, when I beat it 100%, all it made me do was want to go back and 100% beat Super Mario Galaxy (which I'm still in the process of doing). Skyward Sword made me want to go back and play all the previous Zelda entries I missed. 

Granted there are other amazing games out there from other publishers but many of them follow a continuum which pretty much requires you to play previous entries if you want to get the full experience. Never played Assassin's Creed but I want to get the 3rd one? I'm going to have to play through the first 4 games if I want to completely understand what's going on and have the full experience, same with Mass Effect, Uncharted, Gears of War. 

Plus it's really only Nintendo's AAA titles that don't see a price drop for a long time and those usually come out no more than once a year in general. 

 abHS4L88  You don't have to play previous games in the Uncharted franchise to understand the story line of each individual game. Their are little nods to previous titles and characters that carry over, but you would have absolutely no trouble following the events of, say, "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" if you haven't played "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" :)

 Nick_Atreides  abHS4L88 I think the reason they don't drop their prices is because they continue to promote their games long after release i.e through various forms of advertising, bundles, promotions, etc, in order to keep the game selling for months or even years. Whereas other developers release their games and then abandon them. To Nintendo, their games are always new to whoever hasn't played them yet. The release date is irrelevant.

Yeah, if you notice, they're still promoting Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 3D, MarioKart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS.

 abHS4L88  Nick_Atreides Exactly. It is far cheaper to promote sales of a game for as long as possible, than it is to make new games. It's good business. But that's Nintendo for you.   

 Bangerman15 NSMBU is looking like it will be the best of the New Super Mario Bros. series.  HD graphics and it looks like a spiritual successor to Super Mario World, which I still think is the best Mario game ever made.

You do know those Olympic games are made by Sega right? New Super Mario Bros. 2 is probably the only entry in the franchise so far that doesn't push gameplay that much. Wii brought multiplayer and Wii U is expanding on that multiplayer along with adding more variety.

 kiramasaki Not trying to be rude towards you, but I do not think you can compared the Mario mixed games (Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Soccer, Kart, Minis, Puzzles, Dr., etc) with the Mario main series (2D and 3D) of games.... They are by nature different games that only share one thing in common, the Mario brand. Moreover, some of this games are straight license agreements between Nintendo and other developers, meaning that in some of the games Nintendo have very little input on them.

It is an unfortunate and brilliant business decision from Nintendo to add the Mario brand to many games....

* It is brilliant, because everyone recognize the Mario brand and it helps (not all the time) boost the game sales. ;)

* It is unfortunate, because maybe Mario does not need to be the face of every single mix game that is out there.... which brings me to the previous point.

Not defending Mario nor I am bashing Sports games, COD and/or (J)RPGs (which I play them a lot), but I do not think it is that bad the way Nintendo has kept releasing the "main" Mario game series, and they "usually" add to 1 to 2 max per home console; with the oddity of the NES of having 3 games for it, and the Wii with 3.

You mention that the "new" Mario games are so dated, but there is a reason they kept it like that, and that is to appeal to the old school retro gaming. Since the SNES (with Super Mario World), Nintendo did not release another 2D Mario game from the main series on a "home" console until the NSMB Wii and that new series started on the DS console.

I understand your point, but there is always going to be a love-hate relationship when it comes to supply and demand for the Mario games: *** Nintendo is blamed for releasing a Mario game and they are blamed for not releasing a Mario game ***

 Thunderbear24 Yeah but how long can you really play the same thing.  I've been playing 2d mario games for a while.  And what was awesome about the ds one was that it had been a loooong time since the last one.  Now the "new" series sees a new release almost every year.

I honestly don't think this last one was necessary at all.  It's the same game but now you get the "pleasure" of grinding for a million coins.  How innovative.

I'd take super mario 3D Land over that same old same old any day.

No offense, but you fail to mention that those NSMB games are being released on different platforms.

NSMB for DS (2006).

NSMB Wii for Wii (2009).

NSMB 2 for 3DS (2012).

NSMBU for WiiU (2012).

I do agree that 3D Land felt way better than the NSMB2, since the later one had a grinding factor to it that was a little shallow and not challenging in a gameplay sense; however it is not a bad Mario game and still manage to bring some different in the series. 

 Tremblay343  Thunderbear24 And essentially all FPSs, RPGs, fighting games, strategy games and sports games are the same. Aim at the guys and shoot, or pick attacks and wander around towns, or smash button combos etc.

Some people get bored by the 2nd game while some enjoy even the 10th episode.
