Halo 4 will ship on two discs

Second disc will contain multiplayer features data, which will require at least 8GB of available memory on hard drive or flash storage device.

Microsoft has reiterated its previous statements that the multiplayer component of 343 Industries' upcoming shooter, Halo 4, will require at least 8GB of free space.

The publisher announced today that Halo 4 will ship on two discs. According to Microsoft, the second disc will contain data that will need to be installed on an Xbox 360 hard drive or compatible flash storage device with at least 8GB of available memory in order to access Halo 4's multiplayer features.

However, Microsoft revealed to GameSpot that once the data is installed, only the first disc will be required to play Halo 4's campaign and multiplayer content.

Previously, Microsoft advised that for an "optimal experience" players should install the entire game to their hard drives. It was not mentioned how large the entire Halo 4 install would be.

Multiplayer in Halo 4 is broken into two components: War Games and Spartan Ops. War Games has players battling one another in a range of classic and new game types, some of which has been previously detailed. Spartan Ops is a new experience for the Halo franchise, and is an episodic game mode that will see players working through new story-driven experiences on a weekly basis.

Halo 4 is due out worldwide on November 6. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's latest preview.

I hope when I clear off my old Borderlands DLC I'll have enough space free. Not pleased with this. I feel like it's kind of a slap in the face for those of us with the old model 360 that came with the 20 GB hard drive. "No space on your old Pro hard drive? That's a shame. Looks like you'll have to buy a new Xbox, because we don't make the old models anymore!" I'm not risking messing up a perfectly good USB drive by having to format it for Xbox files, and I would never take the chance of purchasing a used hard drive, especially when I'd have to buy another cable just to transfer the data.

Some people aren't rich shits who can buy a second Xbox just because they want to upgrade. I'm perfectly content with my old white one.

Dmg051793  jayjay444  pvspartan36 I'd still have my old white one if it hadn't RR on me last year. Before that the disk tray would randomly decide not to work and console wouldn't always shut off on its own so I was over it anyways and did temporary RR fix and traded it in towards the black 250 gb. As for usb drives, I've never had any issues using them for 360 storage, had to use one for music on old 360 since it was only a 20 gb and used another one for transferring between hard drives. They're both sandisk brand too, microsoft brand is just a waste of money for a 360 logo on it. On amazon there's a 16 gb for around $10 or a 32 for $20 and you could always reformat it on pc if you change your mind later on and don't want to use it for 360.

Dmg051793  pvspartan36 He isnt rich enough to spend 10-20£ on a usb drive with 20-50 gig of sapce init... yeah right. if he cant afford that then im sorry u should not be a gamer.

jayjay444  pvspartan36 We arent all rich you fuck, Battlefield 3 already occupies the 8gb for me and unless I delete that I'm fucked, ya ass HOLE

for some reason, i think that when a game comes in multiple discs, it's like i'm getting my moneys worth.

DEagle267 31 pts

killerlavaman lol I felt stupid after I traded in standard version of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for game of the year edition just to find out they just included a 2nd disc with the expansions on it to just install on hard drive. I could've just borrowed it from someone but at least I got a map with Shivering Isles included on it. =p

LandauTST 110 pts

I'm glad I don't like Halo...lol

DEagle267 31 pts

LandauTST I ended up getting a new 360 end of last year with free voucher for Reach so I downloaded it. Think I must've tried to play it 8 times just to get about 20 mins into story and kept getting bored of it. Tho a local mp match here and there can be fun for a few rounds.

ChiefReaver 52 pts

FOR EVERYONE WHINING ABOUT NOT HAVING ENOUGH SPACE!!!

Just buy a 16GB USB drive, install the second disc to that, and SHUT THE FUCK UP!

leviathanwing 192 pts

ChiefReaver why stop there when 1 tb hdd are out?  also anonymous internet tough guydom is weak.

ChiefReaver 52 pts

leviathanwing You're going to buy a 1tb hard drive for a measly 8gb install? You obviously don't even know what I'm saying.

And don't try to categorize someone when you don't even know them. You only make yourself look like an ass.

What's up with all the rabid PS3 fanboys flooding this topic with ignorant comments? Over 300 comments already, which more than half seem to be from gloating PS3 fanatics. We get it, the PS3 has a Bluray drive. Most of the 360 users have 0 issues with multiple discs. Yeah Bluray is a better storage format, but putting the game on 2 discs isn't a nuisance to most people. You have to get up to put another game in when you want to switch games don't you?

leviathanwing 192 pts

godzillavskong not the same game though...

godzillavskong 215 pts

@leviathanwing Hence the "switch games" part.

nurnberg 573 pts

Let's be honest : PS3 is simply superior.  No multiple disks and no proprietary hard drives sold at insane prices.

Shadowdanc3r 25 pts

nurnberg Blu-Ray may be superior to DVD, but PS3 hardware is NOT superior to 360 hardware, ask any third-party developer.

jayjay444 208 pts

nurnberg look where blue ray got u.... skyrim still couldnt run on your shit PS3:)

dreamfist11 326 pts

nurnberg LOL YEAH RIGHT!!!!  Thats why most games look better on the 360 RIGHT!?!?  ROFL!!!!!

nurnberg 573 pts

Lol, two discs.  Welcome to last-gen!

godzillavskong 215 pts

@nurnberg I have over 250 discs. No big deal. Can't play them all at once.

My 20gb (14.1gb in reality) hard drive suddenly feels even smaller now.

ChillingSky 33 pts

If you read the article rather than being a idiot you will notice that it says once installed it will only require the one disk, so there won't be loads of disk swapping.

i just want to say....HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHA to all those xbox lovers. You will never have the issues with a terabyte HD that the PS3 allows you to put in.

thenephariouson 216 pts

law17lmI dont see the issue, its not like we have to perform a compulsory install with every game is it???

DragonRift 624 pts

law17lm Please stop posting.  You make PS3 users like us look like ignorant f-wads.

law17lm 7 pts

DragonRift and you make people without a sense of humor look like mindless boring individuals. thank you

Shadowdanc3r 25 pts

law17lm  DragonRift Sorry law17lm, it's hard to tell when someone's kidding and when someone's trolling when all we can read is text and not hear tone, read body language, and see facial expressions.

law17lm 7 pts

Shadowdanc3r  DragonRift now i can respect that. i definitely am not trolling but waking up and seeing this, i couldnt help myself after having arguments over PS3 vs 360. i still stand firm in the fact that PS3 doesnt have this issue. With bluray, we NEVER have two disc and with the ability to use standard HD, we have plenty of space to burn. 8 GB install? That a rock under my foot...

acoolerfellow 5 pts

i dont download much on my xbox this works for me can't wait to get back in the game or rather join the fight

PrpleTrtleBuBum 119 pts

So I  only got about 500Mbs left and I'm not about to delete anything substantial, I won't be able to play multiplayer at all?

That is some real degeneration.

DESTROYRS_F8 44 pts

Hey 343!  Bring it to the PS3 console.  Only use one blu-ray.  Also 343, please make it less than 2 hours to install in the console.  Thanks.

danielbirchal 10 pts

 DESTROYRS_F8

Less than 2 hours to install a game in a PS3???? Impossible!!!!!!!!

DESTROYRS_F8 44 pts

danielbirchal for the PS3?  I was being optimistic.  Games I purchased on my PS3 took so long to install.  On my 360, I could play on the fly with almost all.

I own a 4 GB Xbox. if this was a third party title I would've accepted it. on top of this atrocity you have to buy that rubbish proprietary format.  I was planning to buy assassins creed 3 on PC just to save some cash. but read somewhere that Xbox controller is required for optimum experience. I thought what the heck, let's connect wireless controller I have. after spending some time on. internet I realised it was not even possible to connect it without shelling out for a dongle. I wonder why ms does this. ps3 controller just required me to download a driver to work perfectly. Came on ms I need to save some cash to buy some games as well.

superfly18 40 pts

vaibhavp Time to upgrade...can't expect for developers to dumb down the graphics of a game because some people bought a 4GB console...and you can't expect to be able to play every game you want on a system that only has 4gb of memory. Did you complain when you bought a memory card for your N64 or PS1? Not likely...but now?

pedders 5 pts

vaibhavp You have to buy a dongle for your PC because it hasn't got a built in reciever.

Also, if you want to play hardcore games, you'd be generally expected to have a larger HDD, maybe should have saved up.....

vaibhavp 57 pts

@pedders primarily use PC and ps3 for gaming. Recently got 360 for exclusives and stuff I missed. It appears will have to pass on halo 4 as boatload of backlog has collected on steam.
