God of War: Ascension collector's edition revealed
$80 premium bundle includes Kratos statue, soundtrack, multiplayer double XP, and pass for upcoming DLC; preorders score Mythological Heroes Multiplayer Pack.
Sony has announced a God of War: Ascension Collector's Edition that will bring Kratos out of the screen and literally into the living room. The $80 premium bundle includes a statue of Kratos (below right), displaying the merciless fighter wielding swords and donning iconic apparel.
Also included with the God of War: Ascension collector's edition is the game's official soundtrack, a "multiplayer double XP unlock," and a pass for upcoming downloadable content. Additionally, it includes a PlayStation 3 dynamic theme and a PlayStation Network avatar pack.
Sony also revealed preorder bonuses for God of War: Ascension. Those who plunk down a reservation fee for the new action game (either the standard version or the collector's edition) will receive the Mythological Heroes Multiplayer Pack. This offering includes four characters for the game's multiplayer component, including Perseus, Orion, Achilles, and Odysseus.
God of War: Ascension is a prequel to the original trilogy that will tell Kratos' origin story. It is due out March 12, 2013 exclusively for PlayStation 3, and includes a series-first multiplayer mode. For more on God of War: Ascension, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
This is a must buy my friends
This is kinda of tempting
These statues are always built down to a budget. I'd rather pay more and get a proper figure like Square Enix's Play Arts figure. The digital content will probably be available at a later date too. Not sure if this will be worth it. Then again, $80 is a pretty good price for such an edition. // As for the pre-order bonus pack, it's kind of lame. They might be big names in Greek mythology, but they're nobodies in the God of War universe. Why not give us Zeus, Hades, Poseidon and Ares? They are the gods you fight for in multiplayer afterall.
god of war is back xbox is out
What?!~? it IS possible to sell a special edition that has more than a book for under $129?!?!!? BLASPHEMY!!! /sarcasm
=-=-=I wish more games had more realistic price tags like this for special editions. Me likes da collectables
hope i can afford this...
Maybe I should just wait until they do another GoW collection with this game included...
Looks hot. I'm in.
I'll try to get this if I can.
The GoW franchise should have died on GoW3.
alenth just like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Gears of War, Halo, COD, MGS and many more.))))
321FOX123 alenth okay hey hey HEY! MGS4 was Solid, end of discussion buddy! But Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Gears and Cod I can agree on! Halo 4 looks a tad more promising than the rest in their current state.
Warful alenth
if you skip half of the cutscenes (all that includes B&B; unit, Meryl, Johnny and Raiden), MGS4 truly becomes solid (but not great)...
alenth Based on what reasoning?
alenth Because you are done with it everyone should be done with it? You can leave the franchise at any point, there's no reason for a series to stop just because your interest is waning. In fact, I did check with the science community and they said the world doesn't revolve around you.
Franchises go on as long the creator and the fans support them, it's up to the individual fan to decide where they stop but there's never a good reason a franchise should stop when it still sells millions. Halo is a perfectly good franchise for example, and if it carried on just doing the covenant stuff it would get long in the tooth but they have changed the focus onto the fore runners which helps maintain a progressive narrative and bigger scope of the universe. Resident Evil on the other hand.... I played Leons campaign fully and Chris' campaign almost to the end and so far and all I know is that they wanted to have some non-descript BSAA chief be the centre of attention for 4 or 5 boss fights. I'll try and complete chris' campaign and jakes but so far it looks very boring and no story progression. Still if fans are wanting the series it's up to them, I mean if they made another uncharted where drake just strolled around randomly looking for treasure all over again in some as-usual unconnected way (I don't like the franchise due to it's non-connecting narratives that makes it seem like just long random missions) I doubt people would say no.
Sigil-otaku I think some franchises would best be served by ending when their story arc is complete. Metal Gear Solid 4, to use an example already talked about, ends the story of MGS. Virtually every question that was ever asked in the series was answered. All the loose ends were tied. Every living character was given a satisfying send off. Yet somehow Kojima is still making MGS games 5 years later by trying to add story in the middle of the franchise. At this point it just cheapens the great story that the series told. I'm not against more stealth action games, but they could set it in a new world and not ruin the great job they did ending the franchise with 4.
Oh look, preorder DLC announced 5 months before launch.
Mr_Big_Boss And...? Would you prefer they didn't tell you what you're paying for?
Lhomity Mr_Big_Boss
It is just sad they have already planned everything before even starting to make the game. So maybe a section of the game will be cut and you will know it ... or everything that once unpont a time was unlockable will be DLC.
Expect costumes and weapons DLC ...
So it isn't exacly an expantion of your game ...
This will look good with the Pandora's Box I already have, as they both look to scale. If I remember correct, Pandora's Box was rather big for a box, right?
Limited editions always make my fingers itch! !
oh, so glad I pre-ordered this!!
Im not cutting on GOW, but in general am i the only one who just doesnt even think to buy collectors editions ?
Multiplayer double exp? WTF is going on?I thought Kratos' story was explained more or less in the first one? He kicked down a door and killed everyone without looking and, whoops, murdered his family??
solidine While this is true, we really don't know the reason WHY Kratos decided to go against Ares in the first game. After all, it wasn't Ares' fault that Kratos accidentally killed his own family. He WAS warned not to enter the premises, but didn't listen.
So at the end of this new game, we're going to learn what happens between Kratos and Ares which will then lead to the events of Chains of Olympus (which predates GOW 1 in the series timeline).
murry_the_skull solidine
Didn't you play the first game?
Kratos was tricked by an oracle that told him "There is someone in this temple you can't kill" meaning his family but Kratos thought someone stronger than him so he butchered all the innocents who fled in the temple to hide and among them his family.
Then Ares appeared and told him I set this up to make you stronger. Your family was holding you back but now you will become death himself.
And Kratos did become death himself. The world is destroyed in GOW3!
SoreThumbsBill solidine Okay, I admit that I don't remember everything that happened in the first game (since it's been years since I last played and beat it), so I just recounted what I remembered from the first game. Apparently, I forgot that fact about Ares "tricking" Kratos into becoming stronger...
This was just announced? I read about this months ago somewhere...
god of war!
Kratos doesn't fuck around! I cant wait for this!
I'm shocked it's only $80, considering we've been seeing C.E. games go for $100 and even $150+. Good price for the fans.
It looks like a neat Kratos statue, I have too many C.E.s and don't really collect them anymore though.
SolidTy I felt I overpaid for the God of War III collectors edition (it definitely wasn't worth $100) and am surprised to see this for $80 as well...(already looks better than the GoW3 one)
I'm shocked that Total Recall isn't bundled in this collector's edition. :P
Heartagram_03 There have been other Demo's/games in other Blu-Ray packages before the Total Recall/GOW deal. It's not shocking at all if you were aware of this before hand.
I think I'll just stick with my nice Sideshow statue that's actually good quality.
These game CE's are almost never worth it. The "statues" in most games are cheap hollow PVC statues and worst of all many of them don't actually have a limited edition number on them, sot hat makes them as far as "collector's items" worthless.
Only ever buy a game CE if it's actually said to be Limited nad they say by how much.
Many games "CE's" aren't even limited, you'll find them months later on shelves marked down a LOT (Because they take up so much space the stores want to get them out of there asap for new things).
Blizzard is one of the few developers that still make CE's that are actually limited along with a few others (like the Bioshock 1 CE and Mass Effect 1 LE).
Stiler I for one found on stock the CE's of Burning Crusade and Cataclysm. Does not sound too limited to me. If i own as a collector something limited is the Guild Wars 2 CE (already sold at every partner in my country) Heroes Compendium Edition and ofc Age Of Mythology CE...now the last one is pure gold. :)
teh_pwnager Stiler I agree with Blizzard's. On our local store, I also found 1 CE Wrath, 1 CE SC2 and 2 Mists. How's that for CE? -.-'
Stiler Blizzard CE will definitely have LE numbers because those are their serial numbers. -.-' And Blizzard CE is just a box ang soundtrack sitting on your desk almost the same as this one except for the statue (yeah, I'm giving 1 point for GoW). I agree with LEs or CEs having LE numbers. If you'll give examples, do not use Blizzard. LE is like the Bruce Lee Bluray Collection with LE serial number and statue, SF 25th (I'm not 100% sure if this has LE SN).
Halo 4 Limited Edition is $100 and you barely get crap, while this is ONLY $80 and you get more.
They had me until it clearly became download DLC codes left and right. Statue and unsellable resale DLC is not winning me over, publishers don't seem to get the whole resale aspect of these things being "collector editions".
Which makes them pointless and worthless. You just try and resell the statue in a few decades, that is all that is worth anything long-term. If anyone still cares at that point.
I wont be buying this. Adding MP ruins the game.
DarthLod I agree with you, it is a load of bull. They did the same with a few MMOS, that if you pre-order from Gamestop, It turned me away from wanting to play those MMOS.
kawaiiflonne DarthLod Wow, have you tried it now? Looks like your opinion has basis. (end sarcasm)
Why won't you atleast give it a try? Rent it or borrow the game. Then judge it AFTER you played it.
iandavidvinoya kawaiiflonne Because it has MP and I dont want MP in my games. Sick of it. It's my opinion, doesnt effect your life.
$80 isn't bad, considering many recent special editions have been $100+
Great deal, but I hopefully wish they release content to able to play female characters because there are a ton of strong women they can pull from Greek Mythology such as Artimes, Athena, etc.
will be a great buy, assuming the statue is a decent size (looking at stupid re5 redfield "statue")
visionedorange Kick the RE5 statue dude LOL KICK IT!!! C'MON!!! Lol
deliman i know right? why should people have the option of paying the normal price for the normal version or paying a little more for additional things they might enjoy? of course if YOU think its garbage it has to be, as your opinion is the be all end all in determining the value/quality of anything, as your comment implies
deliman Apply cold water to the burned area.
I agree with visionedorage, there are collectors who value this and everyone is entitled with his or her own opinion so... Your post is garbage too for saying this is garbage.
