Capcom: Resident Evil 6 has no on-disc paid DLC
Publisher confirms new zombie shooter does include "incomplete" free DLC that requires a download to access; all upcoming paid DLC not already on disc.
Capcom recently caught fire from fans who discovered on-disc Resident Evil 6 downloadable content. Now, the publisher has issued a statement admitting there is content already on game discs, but clarifying that it is free and "incomplete."
A Capcom representative explained on the company's blog that this free content--the No Hope difficulty mode and a new co-op partner--is "incomplete" because it will not work without an actual download. The two free DLC items will arrive through a title update "soon."
Concerning the previously announced Resident Evil 6 paid downloadable content, Capcom said these add-ons are not already on discs. New game modes Survivors, Predator, and Siege will be made available first on Xbox 360 before spreading to PlayStation 3.
Resident Evil 6 released last week and has shipped more than 4.5 million copies. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review.
ok if they have time to put the content on disk then they can put it as part of the package of the game but this issue i think some people are far to over the top about. even if a game has disk locked dlc then that is not a reason to boycotte a dev. however online pass on the other had that is greed. if capcom start doing that online pass nonsense thats when they will piss me off
That Capcom rep also said RE6 won't please everybody. Looks like a majority by the looks of it.
Doesn't matter. I keep patience for "Gold Edition" though, even if it released next year.
This new DLC is called = RE: Damage Control.
It's going to take more than one game without on-disc DLC before I forgive you Capcom. And well... I just wasn't impressed with the RE6 demo, so I don't even know if RE6 counts. Keep trying though Capcom.
so....if its a free mode, and its already partially on the disc....why does it need to be DLC?
doesn't really make sense to be honest, but its step in the right direction for Capcom.
Darkman2007 there probably are maps/skins e.t.c. already on the disc but a dlc is required to get everything else. it simply wont run without being completed.
They still retain the No. 1 spot on most peoples sh*tlist.
"Every DLC for a game is already on disc. If it werent. Then developers had a hard time coding those maps, modes and guns into the game."
That makes no sense. They develop the games on the development kits and PCs then make them ready for home use. There is no need to pre-load the stuff on the disc to preserve it like you're suggesting. It's not difficult at all for them to code it considering they have the source code at their disposal.
Cal12 Its just a cover up to hide the fact that they put on disc DLC AGAIN! Even after they said they wouldn't after Dragons Dogma.
Y do even have to have an option for paying for different modes of gameplay?? Its a different mode. Really??? So i gotta pay for different mode. Does any1 else c this as a problem?? Whats next they gonna charge us for a title screen?? Or maybe even chapter 2 of a main story. Dont u ppl c that they're slowly breaking the game down into the bare minimum & charging us for the whole complete game??? This era in gaming disgusts me. Watch somewhere down the line they're gonna say u have to pay 5 bucks to c the ending of a game.
I don't care. The boycott continues... until the Resident Evil 2 Remake anyways.
I give Capcom the benefit of the doubt. They state that there is no on disc DLC. I shall take them at their word.
Unless someone cracks the disc and proves Capcom wrong. DLC is what ever increasing HDD storage was intended for? If someone "downloads" Resident Evil 6 extra content. Should be easy to verify it is on the HDD?
Every DLC for a game is already on disc. If it werent. Then developers had a hard time coding those maps, modes and guns into the game.
lilnazar real dlc is sometimes several gb in size... on disc stuff is far far smaller. if youre actually downloading anything of significance then its silly to think that thats only to unlock on disc content. unless you think that dlcs like the ones found in DA origins or fallout 3 or la noire are gigabytes in size because they needed that size to unlock already on disc content?
I`m not buying this at all........good thing a friend is a cash cow.
NOT ME! Fo` shame capcom fo` shame! free dlc but locked? why?? to cash in on it??? no???? its free????? ...
...why was it locked in the 1st place..??????
...feels like deja vu
staranise for anti piracy
The display of BIAS here is disgusting,
Capcom this time has actually reacted to the criticism and yet they are bashed...
American nationalism as its best...
InquisitorCrox actually they are still making money yes it made for japanese people
InquisitorCrox I fail to make the connection between criticizing a company and nationalism.
what the ? so this really really hard then? hope its more monster less ammo less life and i don't know how did you survive after that
Incomplete DLC... just needs the $20 unlock key to make it complete.
TTDog its free
Great, that means the DLC may not suck.
This whole topic is SF X Tekken all over again (Major reason why I didn't buy this without waiting for reviews etc...). Capcom even said they were looking into this for future releases and that was all lies. Why lock content that's going to be free? I hope this isn't some lame attempt to stop second hand sales.
Crapcom strikes again.
It's not that hard to believe that it was intended to be free all along. A new difficulty mode and a co-op partner...... that just sounds absolutely TERRIBLE if it was made to be DLC. How many people would even BUY that?
immanuel_aj valkyria chronicles had a "difficulty DLC" where you paid to unlock extra hard :P
@AmnesiaHaze From what I gather, that DLC was basically a rearrangement of the units so it's 'almost' like a new map. Granted, that could be the same for this difficulty setting in RE6. Anyway, how well do you reckon that DLC sold compared to the other DLCs for Valkyria?
Well no worries Ada's campaign is like a DLC itself ;P
Ha ha HA! Fuck off capcom, you thought you would sneak it past everyone again but we are onto you and your dying company. Thank the lord for hackers and reverse engineers. That is yet one more reason why we need people who hack/modify consoles. They were obviously going to charge for this content until this was found out, what a horrible company for trying to charge more money for something you have already bought and possess.
Arsyad00 Read above, they were not going to offer it for free, kindness....pffft.
FREE!!!!
meh down here, can`t accept people kindness at all.
Why would they put free content on a disk, but them make us wait to download it? My guess is they were planning on charging money for this, but due to the negative reaction to RE6 they decided to try and save face by making it free.
PlasmaBeam44 you might be on to something :D
PlasmaBeam44 Or maybe it was only like 75 percent complete when the game was ready for publishing. I guess we'll know more when we can find out how big the "download" is to make it work.
PlasmaBeam44 well it like a new ham and cheese with pickles if you don't try it for free you won't sell anything... consumers need to know it edible
Uh... they said they wouldn't. Starting with Dragon's Dogma iirc.
the fact they feel inclined to point it out shows how low the industry has fallen.
just a thought, but they could have just been caught and started getting bashed about it. so they just claimed it was free all along.. they may have planned on charging us for this.
Yeah, you just paid 60$ for it but...
wait for it..
IT IS FREE!! FREEE!!!!!!!!
HAHAHA FREE STUFF YEAHHH FREEEE!!!!!
They just don't get it, do they?
Leon's face says it all.
I says 'Pardon'? >>>>> Free?
Haven't heard that word in while.
...Still, I can't bring myself to buy this.. No offence.
Dosen't change anything really. Its actually common practice in the industry these to have DLC finished before the full game comes out. Capcom just happened to get really ballsy and stick it on disc. The thing is that they have to go through a process with DLC and updates ect. There's a certification process(which takes time) and it costs money(which takes well money) especially on the xbox. Its actually cheaper for them to have the content on disc and then only have to release a small activation update. ILke i said it changes nothing now they just wont put it on disc but the DLC is still ready and finished long before the game even drops.
Bought time. We still have a long way to go with these DLC practices that a lot of companies are using though. At least this is a step in the right direction.
godzillavskong You can buy time? This changes everything, millionaires must live forever!!
AhvrenStone godzillavskong If I said can I have a moment of your time and gave you 10,000 for that time you'd give me your time right? You can so buy time.
AhvrenStone well yeah you can buy time... thats how companies pay most people... for their time.
O...kay?
