Capcom's sixth entry takes the top and fifth spots in Japan; PS3 overtakes Nintendo's portable.

Despite mixed reviews, Resident Evil 6 came out on top on its debut on the week of September 30 in Japan.

According to Media Creates' latest sales update, the PS3 version of the survival horror title sold 634,933 units for the week. The Xbox 360 version was at fifth place with 41,652 units sold. The sixth game was praised for its narrative structure, but was panned for its overemphasis on set pieces and execution of scripted events.

Capcom recently announced that the additional content on the game disc, specifically the No Hope difficulty mode and new co-op portions, is free and "incomplete" as it requires an actual download to work.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 also made its appearance on the list. The soccer title was at second place with 223,884 units sold. The game was praised for its pacing and ball physics, but was criticized for it single and multiplayer modes. For more information, check out GameSpot's recent article on the game.

Other debuts on the list included PSP RPGs Summon Night 3 and Sol Trigger. The former was at third place with 51,453 units while the latter was at fourth place with 42,037 units sold. Summon Night 3 is a re-release of the RPG with the same title that came out in 2003. This version features a new brave medal system and additional guest party members. Sol Trigger is a brand new RPG from Image Epoch. The game features a Sol system where party members can use Sol energy to do special commands and resurrect each other during battle.

On the hardware side of things, the PS3 took the top spot in sales with 42,218 units due to the fact that the Super Slim versions of the console came out on October 4. The 3DS XL was at 39,046 units while the regular 3DS was at 24,623 units. The PS Vita is below the 10,000 sales mark as it was 7,957 units for the week. Its cousin, the PSP, was just above it in sales at 17,769 units.

DesertEaglex24 31 pts

Such a rubbish game doesn't deserve to sell as much as it did.

Viperr234 13 pts

Well the sales numbers proved. You can stamp the RE name on a pile of crap and it will still sell no matter what.

Birth00 105 pts

I think it's funnier that the old PSP is outselling the brandnew Vita. Fucking lawl!!!

GreenReuben 82 pts

The ps3 didn't outsell the 3ds, merge the numbers of the 3ds and the xl, otherwise it's like splitting the ps3 up into size categories.

Wensea10 67 pts

Sol Trigger sounds like a pretty interesting game.

DefunktJunk 57 pts

awesome news. but i'm holding out for RE6 Gold Edition, or whatever they decide to call it.

vengefulwilberg 63 pts

Wow.  What irony!  Despite all of the hate during week 1 of release the game still did well.  I enjoyed the game in its entirety.  Its gameplay is fun and the coop was just awesome.  And mercenaries is even more fun than before.  I am a hardcore RE fan; but I am open to new things.  RE 6 does have its flaws; but it was a bit underrated.

Anime_Fan1986 9 pts

vengefulwilberg I agree. I'm having a blast with it. There's a few problems like the inventory management and I miss some of the old elements from the class RE games. I still like how it plays but at the same time I miss how it was with the class  ones. I can see how Capcom is conflicted with giving everyone what they want. The old school fans want old school resident evil and the newcomers want it to be like RE5 but I like both so it's kind of bittersweet. I think they are still finding that middle place that fits perfectly between the 2 types of RE. I certainly think it's an improvement on RE5(not that it was bad but there was just something missing). I feel people are too critical of this game and should just enjoy it for what it is, fun.

vengefulwilberg 63 pts

Anime_Fan1986 I agree with you.  Capcom may have tried a bit too hard that the structure of the game is kinda off in some ways.

HonorOfGod 150 pts

Bunch of perverts they got the game for the boobies and assess just like anyone outside japan. BOOBIES AND ASSESS is all you need to make a game sell now in days.

nejixx 13 pts

HonorOfGod You're on bar with a gamespot review(i.e your comment sucks)

diabloakaSAHA 43 pts

HonorOfGod  Seeing your avatar pic ,i can easily tell that even u love japanese fanservice. Either way re6 doesnt have much of that to begin with. Although Sherry's school uniform in mercenaries  is always a sight for sore eyes :DAwesome , game is awesome.

HonorOfGod 150 pts

diabloakaSAHA I don't play DOA anymore but yeah sure it has boobies but at least DOA gives you a superb fighter on top of the boobies and assess unlike RE.. was not expecting people not to get my drift but you air heads aint thinking much anyway buying a game like RE6 what was I thinking.

Albelnox0 66 pts

HonorOfGod  diabloakaSAHA Where were you when FF7 displayed Tifa's big pixellated breast oh wait you were probably playing it.

HonorOfGod 150 pts

diabloakaSAHA You noticed my avatar btw.. have not changed it in years... you still play DOA? and why do you? lol you pretty much told the whole world why you spend $60 on a game full of QTEs and boobs.

diabloakaSAHA 43 pts

HonorOfGod Wrong boyo, I got a game thats worthy of my $60 . I decide by myself which game is good and which game isnt and RE6 is a damn good one. And as far as my gaming purcahse is concerned i have no financial issues.  Also for my  daily dose of BOOBIES i rely on something called the internet.

marlobc 91 pts

HonorOfGod i still remember playing Tomb raider when i was young , all i cared about was boobies

diabloakaSAHA 43 pts

RE6 is selling everywhere. In the UK its second to only FIFA13 ( fifa always rules in eu regions) and still outselling big games like boderlands2. Reason : Because its a good game. Not a survial horror anymore. but more than that. A good game nontheless. GS and their biased jounalism . Chris Waters should've reviewed the game instead of the old man.  Either way.. Take that Gamespot  ._I_.

nardhardy 24 pts

diabloakaSAHA well said man,I give credit where credit is due and in my opinion of course if a game is bad then its just that, but if i like it then its just what it is,playing resident evil 6 i went in thinking this game will be good im sure and i wasnt wrong i like the game alot, and i also like the fact that it does have somewhat of a challenge factor to it especially playing on professional,i usually dont go off reviews but i do see what is being said about the game so when i play i can actually see for myself how it is, but low scores like that is ridiculous, those are scores for vampire rain or somethin now thats bad lol.

kavadias1981 315 pts

This game was designed to appeal to a western audience and yet it is king in Japan too. You have to give Capcom credit, they know what they are doing in this business.

MAXAM999 10 pts

kavadias1981 Do you think people in the entire world gonna buy the game for the in-game things or the story either .. Just to inform you people are buying this game for the name itself .. doesn't matter what the game is or what it is just put Resident evil title with a new "number" and everyone will fall over that !

You guys aren't helping the series with that kind of "business" , This isn't Call of duty after alll , or was it !?

Oh well .. claps to you capcom -_-" ~

diabloakaSAHA 43 pts

MAXAM999  kavadias1981 And i suppose you are doing the series a huge favour by jumping on the hate wagon and blindly bad mouthing anyone who admits to liking the game. Play the game before u judge it.  It was already established after Re5 that the series is taking a new direction , and abandoning it's core roots.  Sure its not what old school fans expected but its much bigger. This game is about fighting bio terrorism on a global scale and it would be impossible to draw a survival horror story thats confined within a mansion or a small town. This game has 4 campaigns , 3 of it focuses on different aspects of the story while the 4th one (ada wong) connects the dots and reveals the suspense in the other campaigns. I loved the way the story was handled , co-op and mercenaries is fun as usual and the fact that players can randomly join as monsters in another person's campaign is an added bouns and all this works flawlessely. Give credit to a game where credit is due.

kavadias1981 315 pts

diabloakaSAHA  MAXAM999 Guys, I'm just praising Capcom as a business. I am indifferent about the actual game.

vengefulwilberg 63 pts

diabloakaSAHA  MAXAM999  kavadias1981 Capcom made poor decisions every now and then; however this game was so ambitious.  They put a lot of good stuff in the game.

MAXAM999 10 pts

vengefulwilberg  diabloakaSAHA  kavadias1981 This isn't about the game  , This is about the fate of the series !

Mabrry 26 pts

RESIDENT EVIL...

6

kavadias1981 315 pts

Mabrry  MAXAM999  vengefulwilberg  diabloakaSAHA Anybody else believe that Capcom have made this version as over the top as possible or is there still room for more in RE7? Is the old RE style gone forever?

Albelnox0 66 pts

if you want old school RE play the old ones Shinji wanted RE to go in this direction if you played RE4 you'd know that kavadias1981  Mabrry  MAXAM999  vengefulwilberg  diabloakaSAHA

vengefulwilberg 63 pts

MAXAM999  diabloakaSAHA  kavadias1981 But this has everything to do with this game.  If the game was the same as the old resident evil games; then no one would have bashed this game.  We wouldn't even be having this discussion right now.  The identity of the game has been lost in a few ways; however, the games the majority of people play can really sway developers to make different moves. Sometimes it not always a good thing.

Capcom tried too hard.  They were trying to please everyone by doing so many things and it kind of backfired.  I am not defending Capcom for this, especially since there are some flaws that even I can't look past.  I am not a fan of Capcom; but I like this game.  This game generated a lot of hate and some feel they should bash those who like the game.  I can understand frustrations; but to mindless bash others opinions is just dumb.  At least share your dislikes in a more constructive way.

Albelnox0 66 pts

MAXAM999  kavadias1981 Replay your beloved RE4 you'll realize right away how many cutscenese and quicktime events there are.  Unless you forgot  you can climb on a Gigantos back with leon like kratos and start wacking at its weak spot with the knife.  Zombies with guns and rocket launchers yup they were appeared in RE4 too.   And yet RE4 gets a pass.  Even if Shinji was still around im sure this is where RE would of ended up anyways.

If you want old school RE play the old games, heck play the old games so you can remember all the cheap deaths, traps, and insta deaths, and button mashing to shake of zombies, dogs, b.o.w.s, nemesis, exc. and yet RE6 gets all the blame.  Heck zombies with guns if your gonna complain about that then its clear you don't know crap what RE is about.  There is a reason they call it Bio Hazard in japan. RE isn't just about Zombies, its about Bio terrorism, and B.O.W. creating the ultimate soldiers, and indestructable/ hard to kill Biological weapons.

So yeah i think you should go school yourself by playing some oldschool RE. Heck everyone should do it so they can remember what the series is actually about.  All this complaining about limited inventory, its been there since RE1,  yeah you had storage boxes, but it made you back track.  Hence limited inventory.  I even heard complaining about backtracking in RE6, clearly they haven't even play an RE game before.

All this complaining about seperate campaigns that it should've been just one (leons') go play RE1, RE2, RECVX, and heck all you RE4 fanboys that are bashing on RE6, Seperate Ways in RE4 where you can play as Ada Wong felt very similar to the intersecting story plots in RE6. So what gives peeps why is everyong being such big hypocrites.   All this complaining about cheap deaths all i have to say is RE4 when you had to protect ashley in the salazar castle, you know the room with the cranks, and endless ganados. Oh the hypocrisy

kalabama 5 pts

Albelnox0   EXACTLY!! You read my mind...  I always preferred the "BioHazard" title.  People remember the zombies, but seem to forget the giant spiders, moths, sharks, and different B.O.Ws that made the made RE 1 and 2 action-oriented also... not just scary.

CivilizedPsycho  What news does give you an erection? On second thought, I don't want to know.

SolidTy 1095 pts

RE6 is selling well out there for PS3 (634,933), poor 360 (41,652) RE6 version isn't doing good out there, but it was good enough to make it in the top 10.

I think the bad reviews of RE6 in the west are going to hurt Capcom in the long run though.

Mrod1212 205 pts

Still playing it. Just can't get enough of it. Bring on the "No hope left" difficulty!
