Felix Baumgartner's headcam captures space dive freefall

Spectacular images from Felix Baumgartner's spacesuit mounted camera show the Austrian daredevil tumbling through the stratosphere during his record-breaking skydive.

Austrian television channel Servus TV, which is owned by stunt sponsors Red Bull, broadcast the remarkable footage as Felix Baumgartner successfully leapt from over 128,000ft on Sunday.

The images show the 43-year-old former military parachutist spinning out of control shortly after leaving the capsule as he reached speeds of over 700mph.

"The exit was perfect, then I started tumbling - I thought I'd get it under control, but then it really started. I really picked up speed, it got very violent. I thought for a few seconds I'll fall unconscious," Baumgartner told the TV station.

"Thank goodness, I managed to stop - it was very difficult. It was much more difficult than many of us expected."

Baumgartner said he wasn't even aware of breaking the sound barrier.

"I didn't feel the sonic boom, I think it happens behind you," he said.
