Mass Effect 3 Retaliation DLC adds Collectors, Hazard maps, new classes

Down for release 9th October on Xbox 360 in Europe

BioWare's unveiled another wodge of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer DLC, the Retaliation pack. It reintroduces Mass Effect 2's Collectors as an enemy faction, along with new playable classes, "Hazard" versions of existing maps and some additional items and weapons.

There are also Challenges, multiplayer assignments such as "kill a million, billion things using your toothbrush". Completing Challenges equals points, which (eventually) equal new titles and banner images. Spoils of war, innit.

The new playable classes are the Turian Havoc Soldier and Turian Ghost Infiltrator. It's a long shot, but I suspect the Infiltrator's good at infiltrating things while the Havoc Soldier specialises in the creation/maintaining of havoc. They'll face off against five Collector classes - the Praetorian, Scion, Abomination, Trooper and Captain - plus new Cerberus Dragoons and Geth Drones.

Hazard maps contain traps and are subject to fluctuating climate conditions, many of them hazardous. Expect Acid, Lightening (lightning?), Meltdowns, Sandstorms, Swarms and Whiteouts, all hopefully more or less self-explanatory. That's a Swarm in one of the pictures there.

The Collectors have their own custom Assault Rifles, Sub-Machine Guns and Sniper Rifles, and you'll be able to unlock these for your own use along with new ammo mods and stuff. S'all totally free, by the way.

I should forward this post to Private Disco, come to think of it. Haven't heard from him in a while.

Can you literally not, literally? Will you literally explode if you literally wait, literally?

    Bloody literally indeed...

Anywho, isn't there some single player gubbins about omega coming soon?

  3. The misuse of literally literally makes my sides split. Always sounds hilarious when you hear someone on TV say they would literally die. I wish you bloody would.

Not sure I have much stomach for this game any more after my 3 month mass effect marathon. Might have to give it a year until i'm satisfied all DLC has been released and then give it a final playthrough on casual just so I feel like a real badass. Really enjoyed the multiplayer though and this sounds like a nice change plus it's free. Can't complain about the multiplayer when so much free content has been released for it. Good on them

May I also pre-empt the inevitable YoungTobias post. We know you hated the ending, we know you cry in the shower every morning. We know it touched you in inappropriate places

  4. The micro-transactions must be going well for EA/Bioware then.

I'll give it a go, hopefully it'll keep the game from getting stale again.

  5. I like the idea of weather effects, sounds cool!

I agree Plasma, the micro transactions must be doing well for them.. and as far as I'm concerned, being one of the people that doesn't buy that optional crap, getting all this free stuff makes me smile :)

  6. EA is really desperate to push the multiplayer side of the game with all this free stuff. What a shame they balanced this out by removing large chunks of crucial plot and charging £7.99 for it on day one, as well as rushing the game out the door without a functioning ending. All of this 'free' stuff is a smokescreen.

It worked. How much do I have to pay you for this weeks lottery numbers?

I like the content but my friends never play mp. May download this when there is nothing to do and if I can find a few team members.
