Assassin's Creed 3 DLC lets you fight George Washington - Season Pass detailed

Five single player packs for 2400 MP

Move over, Bioshock Infinite! You're not the only one who's got a bone to pick with George Washington, founder of North American democracy. Ubisoft has announced an episodic Assassin's Creed 3 DLC campaign, titled The Tyranny of King Washington. It's three packs long, and will arrive within six months of the game's 31st October launch.

They're billing it "an alternate history of the American Revolution" (as far as we know, the main game faithfully retells the main events of the period), and it takes place in 1783. "As the revolution comes to a close, a new and most unexpected enemy emerges. Driven by the desire to secure the fate of the colonies, George Washington, the greatest hero of the revolution, succumbs to the temptation of infinite power.

"The new King is born and his reign leaves no one untouched. To return freedom to the land, our new hero Connor must dethrone a tyrant he once called friend."

Executive producer Sebastien Puel has a few further insights. "History is our playground, and Assassin's Creed teams have always loved playing with historical facts and their consequences as a way to better understand a time period. While Assassin's Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things 'could have happened.'"

Besides the story missions, Assassin's Creed 3 DLC packs will include new multiplayer maps and characters. You'll get the first five packs with the Assassin's Creed 3 Season Pass, which costs 2400 MP - pricing details for individual packs have yet to be released.

  1. "Now we've lulled the Yanks into a false sense of security by only showing the killing of Red Coats in prepublicity...here's an entire mini sequel dedicated to killing Americans."

So how many pieces of SP DLC are there? The headline talks about 5, but the article only mentions three plus MP maps.

  2. There are three SP packs that we know of. No news on the other two, but I'd imagine they're bittier MP packs.

  3. Question for the thread: how do you chaps feel about the fact that literally everybody is doing the Season Pass thing nowadays?

  4. If it's episodic, won't that mean that this will be the only single-player DLC, just slipt into three buyable parts? If that's the case then I don't like the sound of that.

I'd prefer something like the Fallout: New Vegas DLC, wherein each DLC has it's own self-contained story, yet has an overarching substory. However you don't need to buy all the DLC's to understand said substory.

Question for the thread: how do you chaps feel about the fact that literally everybody is doing the Season Pass thing nowadays?

I don't know really, I think it really depends on the content you're getting and how much you're saving. If it was for Elder Scrolls or Fallout, I might be tempted, but again it all depends on the content and price.

I wouldn't want to buy one when nearly all of the content is crap. (Saints Row: The Third.)

It would be alot better if you got ALL the DLC with it. Then again I wouldn't want to get tons of crap DLC, that at the end of the day, is a complete waste on money.

  5. I'm OK with the concept of Season Passes just not the execution so far.

Most developers are either doing a Pass for MP content (couldn't care less) or mixed SP and MP (could only care about half that) so none of the Passes so far would have worked out for me.

However if Bethesda suddenly announced Fallout 4 would have 5 bits of DLC and a Season Pass I'd probably snap it up. Hearthfire is the first piece of Beth DLC since horse armour I've not bought, so I'd be fairly happy that I wasn't wasting my money and would get everything.

  6. I think season passes are fine but I'd never ever go for them. The idea of paying before you've even seen what you're getting doesn't stick well with me but I understand if someone plays the game more than a lot it can represent decent value.

Whether it's further enticement for companies to hold back more content from the main game or not is yet to be seen I think, but as long as I feel the released version of the game is worth the money I've spent I don't mind.

Oh, and other than the headline I'm still avoiding anything on this game, quite excited for it like a cat with a newly plucked turkey.

  7. What are the odds Connor will fight Robbespierre in a AC3-sequel? I would not bet money against it...

  8. I'm definitely in the "prefer to buy things that actually exist" camp, rather than shelling out a small fortune for some stuff I know nothing about.

Also I have reached the point where I'd rather pay once for one game, with no extras at more cost, and be done with it. Can't be arsed with a 100 bits of DLC being slowly spoonfed to me. Its really beginning to grate.
(I understand that DLC can be good etc, but too many publishers abuse it).

  9. Think Spider has summed up my thoughts pretty well there too. One thing i'll add though is how many of the games that are now offering season passes do people actually get to the end of the game and find themselves wanting more? Assassins Creed is a good example of this, i've played and thoroughly enjoyed all of the games so far, but by the end of each i've gotten a little tired of it in all honesty, i find this is the case with a lot of games (shooter SP campaigns aside) nowadays, especially as the dlc very rarely adds something new, it's usually just more of the same with 3% story to play on your OCD tendencies.

The multiple different pre-order versions still annoy me more than season pass though, the fifty different versions of AC3 have in fact stopped me pre-ordering it this year, they can go whistle, my cash has gone elsewhere, i'll wait till the normal version is cheap, i don't want to have to sit and draw up comparison tables when ordering a game for gods sake...

  10. I wish they could make more DLC for campaign/story and not multiplayer.
