FIFA 13 sells 353,000 copies

North American launch-day sales on HD consoles up 42 percent for EA's latest soccer sim; iOS version sales rise 62 percent to all-time high.

FIFA 13 is off to a hot start in North America. Electronic Arts announced today that its newest soccer simulator sold 353,000 copies in the United States on launch day, up 42 percent year-over-year. That figure only accounts for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 copies sold, leaving out sales of PS2, PSP, Wii, 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and PC versions.

EA also announced that FIFA 13 fans logged 1.4 million online games in the first 24 hours following launch, up 35 percent on last year's figures. The iOS version of FIFA 13 was also a top-seller, with total downloads surging 62 percent year-over-year, in the process taking the record for "biggest global launch-day performance" of any iOS game in EA history.

FIFA 13 will launch in the rest of the world tomorrow, and EA anticipates a "historic opening." Over 1.3 million copies of the game have been preordered worldwide, a surge of 300,000 since Tuesday.

It has been a historic year for EA Sports titles. First-week sales of Madden NFL 13 were up 8 percent to a high-definition era record 1.65 million, while NHL 13 skated to a franchise-best 491,000 in sales during its first week.

Uh, online? Well, unless you don't have access to it.

metalkid9 60 pts

tightwad34 I tried playing online a couple of years ago and I got my ass kicked lol. People play too seriously online.

tightwad34 390 pts

 metalkid9

That's the main reason why I don't play it online. But you should expect them to play serious. They aren't going to just let you win,  which would be comepletely unsatisfying for both players.

it`s rather surprising this game is selling like hot cakes in the US! nice to see Americans apreciate football. Its the greatest sport in the planet.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the video game is far more popular than real life soccer in America.

Another crappy game made from EA. Along with Need for Speed also Fifa has been extremely milked by EA

But as long there are idiots that buy this kind of shitty EA games...

I still haven't played enough of FIFA 12. I will pass this year and maybe even next year, or utill it looks to have quite a few changes, all for the good of the game, of course.

tightwad34 Good choice, you have to start sometime.

I'm still playing FIFA 97 and waiting for a noticeable change before I buy a new one.

Ok, there's a partial joke inside, I'm not playing FIFA anymore, but 97 was the last one I bought.

Soccer remains Soccer, no matter what the number at the end says and Pro Evolution Soccer is what's on my TV PC for some socializing fun games of soccer with buddies.

Good move that I thought about too, but all my friends bought fifa13, so i will follow off the bridge. This is such a cash cow. I wish they waited two years in between each new iteration, but this is how EA does it. I was still into FIFA12 would have played it for another year.

I only play it because of the story.

It's sad that PES doesn't sell enough copies to warrant the expense of more licenses. It is a vastly superior product in the gameplay department.

I know EA dream, it is:

A game that everyone buys and don't complain.

Buy the digital version and retail, and never resell.

Buy all DLC, and still have enough money to buy the sequel 6 months later, which the only difference is is the number at end of the game title.

Infamous vs. Prototype(I think we know who got the better of that one). And then there's a well known matchup that I won't mention.

FallenOneX 267 pts

tightwad34  bojan_sokol Not that well known if I can't think of it! Unless you're going the BF vs COD route, which shouldn't be counted at all.

tightwad34 390 pts

FallenOneX  I was thinking about a couple of certain RPGs that came out in the fall of last year. COD vs. BF, no I wouldn't waste any thought on that.

Um, good for EA? Seriously why are we meant to care?

Boudii 19 pts

DarkSaber2k you are not 'meant' to care, it;s NEWS they are simply reporting it for those who DO care. If you didn't care then why did you click on the article, and even take time to reply?

DarkSaber2k 528 pts

Boudii Because I wanted to know why I was meant to care. I thought that would have been obvious from the question.

JimmeyBurrows 363 pts

DarkSaber2k  Boudii But if you're not meant to care, then you're asking the wrong question... Shouldn't that be obvious?

Boudii 19 pts

DarkSaber2k you are very dense. You are not meant  to care. You read the headline, if it interests you , you read it, if it does not, you don't click it. You don't click, read and reply asking "why I should care?" that's very idiotic.

Um, because sales numbers of 353,000 aren't something people normally like to make "NEWS"? They didn't even include "PS2, PSP, Wii, 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and PC versions.". Chris Chase has officially joined the GameSpot Staff.

This game is a crappy unfinished product and EA wants you to pay them for litterally everything. Want some virtual money for new shoes for your Virtual player?, give us your real hard earned cash. Lol seriously it`s ridiculous, you can actually see how the stadiums are unfinished. Next DLC will be fully made stadiums and 3 new shoes, 12 % cheaper with 25 $ season pass llololol.
