Already available as a web app Google is looking to expand into iOS with a fully native app that will bring all the functionality that Android users already get as standard
Apple iPhone 4S an iPad 2 to get Gmail app
Google is to launch a native Gmail app for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 with reports suggesting the app is in the final stages of approval with Apple.
One of the main advantages of having a native app over the current web app is a significant increase of integration with the hardware's features, allowing Push email, the ability to star messages and also priority inbox.
With Android being the main OS for Google it'll be interesting to see if they treat the iOS version to the same level of functionality that we've seen in the brand new Gmail app for Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Utilising the specs of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus the Gmail app was fully integrated with the contacts list and also the users Google account.
Can we expect to see a Gmail app that rivals the Ice Cream Sandwich update? Let us know what you think via the comments box below...
