Update: Below is a video of EA's announcement and the trailer it showed during its Summer Showcase event today. Original report continues below:

The DLC pack will be out "this summer" on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $10 or 800 Microsoft points.

The add-on will feature uncharted systems, new areas of the Citadel, brand new characters and weapons including the AT-12 Raider shotgun and M-55 Argus Assault Rifle, says BioWare.

According to the official blurb: "Mass Effect 3: Leviathan is the first story-driven, single player DLC to be made available since Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut. Leviathan expands upon the events of Mass Effect 3 with gripping and emotional storytelling, compelling new characters, powerful weapons and unique upgrades.

"Something lurks in the dark corners of space, something powerful enough to kill a Reaper. Shepard must discover the most closely guarded secret in the galaxy before the Reapers silence it forever. Discover more about the origins of the Reapers as you race across the galaxy to find the Leviathan.

"Unravel the dark history of the Reaper Race before it is too late. Coming later this summer there is no war, only the harvest."

Think I'll be joining you if that's the case. ME was an excellent series while it lasted, but time to move on I suppose.

Cool. Hopefully this is as good as the Shadow Broker DLC.

I loved, loved, loved ME's 1 and 2, played them through multiple times but have only completed ME3 once and this trailer (which didn't really show anything new/different) hasn't enticed me to pop the disc back into my 360 :(

This is taking place during the main campaign. So yeah if you thought you played the whole game? Well no they just cut it out and slap a DLC name on it.

Must be the only person on CVG now who actually enjoyed 3. Looking forward to the DLC.

All of ME2's DLC took place during the main game. I suppose they were all cut from that too? And Dawnguard takes place during Skyrim's main game. Was that cut from the game too? They've been working on this since after ME3 released.

This wasn't even mentioned in the leaked script from November 2011, so this content is completely new.

3 was great, i even thought the ending although samey for all 3 variations was kinda cool.

Its cool to hate things thesedays, build things up and over hype it, read up every little detail about something months before release then compare it to everything else you have ever played and find fault.

Considering 23 million people go gaga for map packs 4 times a year for a game that gets a yearly sequel im sure we are allowed to go giggle silly for some single player story dlc.

I enjoyed ME3 and i've played through it 3 times but I think it wasn't as good a game as the previous two. I know it was supposed to be a race against time to save Earth but the urgency of each mission, the total lack of space exploration and not being able to actually land on foreign planets was very un-Mass Effect, in my opinion.

    Hopefully it's Moya.

I think they've already used Claudia Black as a voice actress though. She's in everything these days. She's the female version of Nolan North.

    Good job she's awesome.

Nope i loved it too. Not as much as 2, But it was still a brilliant game and the Multiplayer was some of the most fun i've had online in ages. More game is always welcome and i'll never understand the hatred for DLC.

Tried replaying the first and just couldn't compared to 2 and 3 its a mess.

Loved the game, couldn’t really care too much about the ending

But do we really need another shotgun and the Argus was a pre-order “exclusive”

I absolutely loved Mass Effect 1 and 2, but 3 was a let down. The first two games built up the arrival of Harbinger and the reapers so much, I guess Mass Effect 3 was guaranteed to disappoint anyone heavily invested in the universe. Also, over the course of three games, the franchise went from an RPG to a 3rd person shooter.

The completionist inside me will probably be compelled to pick this up, and I would like to learn more about the reapers origins, seen as how the game didn't really explain them.

I loved ME3, nice to see so many supporting it here, but I'm still f**ked off that I can't play the Arrival DLC I've paid for as I'd already started a new saved game and need to play through the main game again just access that content.
