Microsoft has expanded the Xbox Live Rewards program to include your Gamerscore, giving rebates on XBLA purchases to those with higher ranking.
You won't be able to trade your Gamerscore for Microsoft Points - something that people have been asking about for a long time - but it's not a bad middle ground. Signing up for the Xbox Live Rewards program and getting a measly 3000 points gets you "Contender" status and rewards you with "a special gift on your birthday" - which we're suspecting will be an Avatar item. Rack up 10,000 and you're a Champion and get a 1% rebate on any Xbox Live purchases you make - so you'll get 1% of the purchase value back, which means 12MSP for each 1200MSP you spend.
Get up to 25,000 Gamerscore to achieve Legend status and live it up with a 2% rebate. Which is not a huge amount, we will admit, but it's a handy bonus given that you're spending the points anyway. Our only concern is where this leaves those of us with north of 25,000 points - at the moment, that's as high as the system goes, so those with 100k+ don't get anything extra. We'll be surprised if that doesn't change in future, though.
It's all backdated, so if you've already got your Gamerscore you'll reap the benefits right away. You can find the details over on the Xbox Live Rewards page - find it under MyExtras > MyAchievements.
If you want to get started, here are 14 of the easiest Achievements you can get. And don't forget the easiest 1000GS ever, Avatar: The Last Airbender.

25,000 GS from now or just in total? I bet it's the former, that's at least 25 games to get 2% back?
Clanger67 on 28 Sep '12 said:
Over twenty five thousand,i am a legend
Seriously though for 2% off 1200 MSP,thought they might have gone a bit higher with the GS for even more % off.Like 10% if you are over one hundred thousand.

It's something for nothing, so you can't really complain… I do hope they introduce bigger discounts, though, I should get at least 50% off for my 170,000 odd points!

Think I'm around the 40 mark. I'd like 2 concubines and a chest of gold please, and be quick about it.
While it's not much, it is something for nothing so don't complain.

Dude this isn't CVG website, if you want to TROLL go over there

Fair point, but if you're not already a legend then it seems mighty unfair.

When they say "its all backdated" does that mean I get the rebate on all of the the marketplace purchases I've made already, or do I just get it on all future purchases due to my gamerscore currently being over 10,000?

There's a huge difference between 'trolling' and 'having a less than 100% positive opinion about something'. Admittedly I don't use the forums regularly so I don't know if delpoi has a reputation on here, but if you're calling him a troll based on one negative comment then that's a bit rich. He has a right to scrutinise, and for what it's worth I agree with him. 25,000 points is the equivalent of 25 full-priced games, which at £30-40 a pop means you might be spending upwards of £750 to get 2% an XBLA game that only costs £4-16 to begin with. It's hardly an incentive to keep playing, is it? I could understand 5% and having an extra 5% off per 25k points, but why 2%? So I save 24 points on Sine Mora or whatever, big deal.
And I saw no mention of giving points back to those who already bought these games with 25,000 points banked, only that you don't need to earn another 25k. That's a pretty big oversight, it basically punishes gamers for buying things too early if they don't get reimbursed. This isn't the same as a price drop, this is an entirely new universal discount tool which obviously covers all users, so the idea that I can be excluded from a deal I've earned just because I unwittingly jumped the gun is frankly offensive.
Microsoft should have done one of two things - they should have either made MS points unlockable through gameplay, or they should have had a reward scheme based on previous purchases. This half-baked idea is too minimal to be considered a genuine benefit to gamers, and too messy to be a practical incentive tool for those who have already invested into the system. If finding fault in a service that I'm paying for makes someone a 'troll' because they don't choose the same under-analysed, wide-eyed stance that many others have based their lives upon, then I know which side I'd rather choose.
Justify your opinions in future or don't share them, because tossing names around doesn't help and pretty much defeats your point every time.

I find it very ungrateful that people complain about getting something gratis! If your complaing about getting a handout then you need to look closly at yourself! Ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can give you! No one said MS has to give you something back, the fact that they do says that they want to reward people, hence Xbox Rewards Scheme, for there loyalty. Why should they give you something? Are we owed it? Are they indebted to us for buying they console/games? No! Do you see Apple giving handouts? No. Sony? No! Stop complaining about free stuff you think your entitled to and enjoy it!
schwepterbrowser on 29 Sep '12 said:
I agree, but Sony actually do give a lot of hand-outs to their paying subscribers - plenty of free games if you have PlayStation Plus. I think the rewards programme is pretty good; I’ve had 2210M$P from it so far, I'll have another 120M$P pending next month and that's all without these discounts! Then I've had some free avatar stuff and VIP access codes on top.
tony99 on 29 Sep '12 said:
Quick question for you Schwepterbrowser.
How do you get these VIP codes? I click on VIP and it says "keep doing what your doing on xboxlive blah blah"
Well,i keep on doing what i'm doing but no VIP.
Windowlicker79 on 29 Sep '12 said:
Shut up and be grateful. How can you possibly complain so f**king much about something you are getting for free? Surely getting 2% back on future XBLA purchases is better than not getting it? Would you prefer not to get it at all? Would that be less insulting to you?
Delpoi was simply noting that 2% wasn't a particularly huge amount, but he wasn't complaining about it. Clearly he wasn't trolling as YoungTobias was suggesting, but I don't think he was being as retarded about it as you are.
jimbosolo on 30 Sep '12 said:
for those who are not liking the 2% discount and thinking they are owed more, know this.
When the original xbox came out it was very expensive and MS had to knock off £100 from the rrp within a couple of months or so of its release, Now unlike sony they gave away £100 worth of launch goodies ie 2 games and a control pad to all who had bought it during this period. So while this isnt on the same scale MS still have to pay other companys when their products are sold on XBL and on top of that as gold subcribers we get monthly deals on games and content anyway, and free points and 25% annual discount for xbl etc etc Or in mycase MS dont charge me my XBL gold subscription for being a founding member and because i am awesome
STE MO on 30 Sep '12 said:
I'll have to disagree with you about Playstation plus. Your actually paying for the games, so it's not free. It's on a network that's free, and Sony have always said that it'll be free, so their subscription is for the games, so they aren't actually giving anything away, just a good deal on the games!
