Send the undead back to hell via soccer ball, machine gun, and sword.

If there’s one thing the App Store has plenty of, it’s zombie games. Developers can’t tear themselves away from the undead, and the result is a glut of titles that have players doing just about everything, from shooting the flesh eating freaks to creating their own zombie pizzas and even tending to zombie farms.

Suffice to say, if you think the best zombie is a dead one, there’s an iPhone or iPad game best suited to your brain splattering tastes. That said, lock the doors, gather supplies, and try to survive the 10 best iOS zombie games.

10. Judge Dredd vs Zombies

Even zombies need to obey the law. Control comic book hero Judge Dredd as he shoots his way through 30 levels filled with death. Level up to increase his abilities, and use explosive barrels to flatten multiple baddies at once. Succeed, and you just might earn a commendation.

9. Samurai vs Zombies Defense

How many video games let you take down zombies and play pachinko? Answer, just this one. As a noble samurai, it’s your job to protect the village from evil by any means necessary. Set up defenses, work with allies and harness magic to keep your foes at bay.

8. Zombie Highway

And you thought rush hour traffic was bad. Try barreling down the street with zombies giving chase, weaving between bodies as the creatures jump aboard and do their best to tip over the vehicle. Gives an all new meaning to the phrase “defensive driving.”

7. Pro Zombie Soccer

You may not be able to bend it like Beckham, but you can definitely kick a soccer ball straight through a zombie’s chest. Flick like crazy to turn those monsters into mush, staying alive just long enough to align an orbital ray and fry your adversaries. GOOOALLL!!!

6. Call of Mini: Zombies

This blood-stained, third-person shooter tasks you with decimating zombies through eight maps with 16 weapons. You’ll need every single one to combat the 17 different types of enemies, but it’s OK. You have the itchiest trigger fingers in town.

5. Ages of Zombies Anniversary

Before mega hero Barry Steakfries went on a Jetpack Joyride, he traveled back in time to the prehistoric era, the 1920s, and the Wild West to rid the space time continuum of the zombie horde–even if it meant annihilating a zombified T-Rex. Enjoy hilarious antics, sweet weapons, and detailed 2D graphics in this staple of iOS gaming.

4. Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies

We can’t stand Nazis–especially undead ones. They refuse to stay outside, instead busting through windows unannounced. Of course, we’re more than happy to give them a warm welcome, as in a bullet to their rotting foreheads. Perhaps we’ll see you online. Then we can decorate the walls with rotting flesh together.

3. Zombieville USA 2

The original Zombieville was one of the few bright spots in early App Store gaming, and the sequel lives up to the hype, with numerous playable characters, a huge number of cool weapons, the ability to move within different 2D planes, and even wireless co-op multiplayer. As they say, friends that slay together, stay together.

2. Zombie Gunship

Fighting zombies on the ground is so overrated. We’d rather rip those suckers to shreds while inside an AC-130 gunship, pelting monsters with a 25mm Gatling gun while saving helpless humans. Thankfully, Zombie Gunship helps us scratch that itch. Hopefully that itch isn’t an infection.

1. Plants vs. Zombies

Hey, you annoying zombies. Get off our lawn. Keep the undead from getting inside the house the only way you know how. No, not with shotguns and carving knives, just a variety of dangerous plants. Freeze, blow up, and even shred your enemies with a lawnmower, but watch out. Zombies come in all forms, each one tougher than the last.
