iPad 3, as has been rumored for a while now, will indeed be revealed at an Apple event next week in San Francisco, coinciding with the Game Developers Conference. Apple will take the wraps off its new iPad at Yerba Buena on March 7 at 10am.
Select media outlets have received an invitation to attend the event. Given how hugely popular iOS and the iPad have become for gaming, the next iteration of the iPad is likely to have a sizable impact on developers and the industry at large.
The iPad 3 is expected to have a much higher resolution display, a more powerful processor, among other features.
The newest tablet is also likely to affect the portables market. Although the tablet is not a "direct competitor," it's still a portable device that has a huge library of games, and there are only so many entertainment dollars consumers have to throw around.
