Outstanding

Photobucket, which is owned by News Corp, is one of many Internet image-hosting and photo-sharing sites, many of which offer both free and pay versions. Its direct competitors include sites such as Flickr, Picasa, and Snapfish, and it operates in much the same way as these sites. Photobucket lets you upload, organize, tag, share, edit, and print digital photos. In addition, the service now allows users to upload video clips, which can be edited with an integrated video remixing tool designed by Adobe.

The site provides an array of services that any photography novice, intermediate user, or professional photographer could find useful. You can easily upload images and crop, resize, and rotate on the fly as well as create and organize albums. As with most other online image services, you can adjust sharing and viewing settings with a number of privacy options. Users cans also make their own profiles and portfolios to share with others.

The service hosts more than 7 billion user photos and is one of the most-trafficked photo services on the Internet. Over the past year, Photobucket launched a new version of its mobile site, overhauled its album organization features, and revamped its sharing tools, offering a variety of one-click buttons for publishing to various social networking sites. This service has perhaps the most "blah" interface of the bunch, but pretty much every blog and publishing tool is compatible with it, which makes it a very practical choice for many users.

"Switched to Flickr - Couldn't be happier"

    September 5, 2011  |   By dcdz78

    Version: Photobucket

    Pros

Unlimited bandwidth/storage space for a decent annual price

    Cons

Weak security, clunky interface which is very slow to work with, every default option is to Share your photos (again, bad security/privacy model). No real decent offline tools

    Summary

I bought the Pro subscription 9 months ago and am currently removing all of my content to switch to Flickr. I've had it with the terrible performance of trying to work with my content online. Every album whether there are 2 photos or 200 load incredibly slow. They're drag-n-drop method in the "Organize" menu is terrible, especially when you have a lot of photos selected. Then you have to fight with it while you drag it over to the vertical menu on the left... it's just bad.

I have went round and round with Photobucket support as to why they do not encrypt your credentials when you sign in. In 2011 it's just stupid. I have the emails from their support saying if I don't like that they don't encrypt my credentials, then rotate my password. Hah lame. Granted, people could argue that "it's just my photos and who cares..." The point being is if that is their response to security, how does it make me think they handle my Visa number when I (was going to) renew? There is no SFTP option either. Flickr's interface isn't as clean as Photobucket's but its 100 times faster, I can sign in securely with my Google account and their privacy options and the ability to set them as defaults are great - something PB doesn't offer. Same price, same storage etc... I would never recommend PB to anyone anymore. Also, Flickr's upload utility is perfect for my needs.

And to add insult to injury, I am trying to get all my content off of PB to upload to Flickr by using PB's FTP settings. I downloaded all 11k + photos only to find that they're not the original sizes, most are postage stamp thumbnail sizes and it won't let you download your videos via FTP. So frustrating. If you want to get your original sizes, you have to go in to each folder/subfolder, select download folder, enter a frustrating Captcha phrase, wait 2 minutes to get a download link that can only be used once and for 24 hours... then it zips the folder for download. It's going to take months to do this.

Bottom Line - PB obviously doesn't care about security, servers are slow, there are no good tools for photo management. PB just plain sucks and if anything, check out Flickr instead. Flickr does have a 90 second video cap which PB didn't. At this point, I'll deal with it.

    December 23, 2009  |   By SheliaP437

    Version: Photobucket

    Pros

Phto and uploading ability and linking is good

    Cons

Deceptive practices. Auto enrolling you in renewals annually if you take their Pro Services offer

    Summary

Deceptive practices, Difficult to impossible procedures. No customer service. Never again. I will cancel my credit card before I let them enroll me another year.

After repeated emails, which is their procedure to UN enroll, no answers. You cannot delete or cancel an account UNTIL you unenroll in the wuto renewal. What a joke. I They make that impossible to do.

    "Wasn't quite up to par."

    October 3, 2009  |   By maidensolo

    Version: Photobucket

    Pros

    I like viewing others work

    Cons

The usability factor here is not good. I spent way too much time trying to guide my uploads into their proper folders, while the program kept trying to make me start new albums. It was like arguing with software.

    Summary

Photobucket has a lot of edting tools and effects, and they are very good for editing your photo's right there, after you upload your shot. As good as any scaled down photoshop. You just have to wiggle and squeeze your way through the quirks in the program until you start thinking like a photobucket. And i hope you don't, because it's not very logical! All in all, it's a pretty good program!

    July 31, 2008  |   By Katzenroehrl

    Version: Photobucket

    Cons

photobucket seems to be a scam site. Terrible customer service. They don't cancel your account once they got a hold of your personal data and are able to bill you! I am an social media technologist and photobucket is one of my worst experiences yet.
