[BD Review] ‘Bedevilled’ Is Riveting And Intelligent
Reviewed by James A. Janisse Bedevilled is the slow-cooking 2010 directorial debut by Jang Chul-Soo, a well-built thriller that evolves from an oppression piece to a graphic revenge tale. The film and its pair of lead actresses have won a number of awards, and deservedly so. Bedevilled is 115 minutes of poignant struggle and captivating [...] Read More[BD Review] D’Onofrio Steals The Show In ‘Chained’
[BD Review] D’Onofrio Steals The Show In ‘Chained’
Right from the beginning the reality and grittiness of Chained, the new film by Jennifer Lynch, made me want to turn away. I wanted to stop watching and not because the movie was bad; it was so powerful and painfully true to life that I couldn’t help but be moved by it. It sickened me [...] Read More[BD Review] ‘The Victim’ Is Flawed But Enjoyable

[BD Review '12] ‘The American Scream’ A Celebration Of The Haunted House Fanatic
From Michael Stephenson (the director of Best Worst Movie), comes a new documentary, The American Scream – a celebration of the average Halloween fan who commits their own time and money into creating a local haunted house. While it lacks punch, there’s a profound sense of joy in watching these hard working individuals get the [...] Read More[BD Review] Chilling ‘The Conspiracy’ Brings Found Footage Thrills!
[BD Review] Chilling ‘The Conspiracy’ Brings Found Footage Thrills!
Those who are as deep down the rabbit hole as myself know just how many conspiracy theories make their way into films. And while based on some incredibly dark theories, many find their way integrated as the subplot to major mainstream motion pictures (see Prometheus, Transformers 3, Captain America). Most are twisted into complete fantasy, [...] Read More[BD Review] Criterion Knocks It Out Of The Park Again With ‘Eating Raoul’
[BD Review] Criterion Knocks It Out Of The Park Again With ‘Eating Raoul’
A graduate of the Roger Corman School of Filmmaking, director Paul Bartel really hit his stride with 1975’s Death Race 2000, one of the greatest low-budget action movies ever. With a firm grasp of black humor, satire, and violence – and Cannonball! – under his belt, Bartel broke away from the famous producer and snuck [...] Read More[BD Review] Is ‘House at the End of the Street’ The Most Generic Horror Film Ever Made?
[BD Review] Is ‘House at the End of the Street’ The Most Generic Horror Film Ever Made?
Wes Craven’s 1996 Scream was a self-aware reflection on the clichés of horror; a film that should have killed the trite conventions in any genre project thereafter. Scream called out the genre for its lazy tropes, yet, all these years later, films like House at the End of the Street show that many filmmakers haven’t [...] Read More[BD Review] ‘Frankenweenie’ Revives The Tim Burton Of Past!!!
[BD Review] ‘Frankenweenie’ Revives The Tim Burton Of Past!!!
For the better part of the past decade it had appeared that Tim Burton had lost his mojo. As a fan of his earlier works it felt as if he was just “going through the motions” of directing in order to collect millions if dollars. Everything from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Alice in [...] Read More[BD Review] Watching ‘Munger Road’ Is Like Developing Alzheimer’s In Real Time
[BD Review] Watching ‘Munger Road’ Is Like Developing Alzheimer’s In Real Time
There’s a somewhat commonly held axiom in screenwriting, “make something happen on every page”. With Munger Road, writer/director Nicholas Smith has boldly flipped that axiom on its ear by making sure that nothing happens. Ever. In the entire film. Sure, there are things that take place onscreen (however rarely) that might qualify as “events”, but [...] Read More[BD Review] ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ Is Mind-Melting Eye-Candy
[BD Review] ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ Is Mind-Melting Eye-Candy
The Resident Evil franchise drives me absolutely insane. There’s nothing more frustrating to a critic than having to give a film a “pass.” Meaning, it’s literally impossible to review Resident Evil: Retribution on its own merits (unless it’s the only one seen) as it must be looked at in comparison to the prior entries. As [...] Read More[BD Review] Barry Levinson’s Found Footage Thriller, ‘The Bay’ Is An Admirable Miss
[BD Review] Barry Levinson’s Found Footage Thriller, ‘The Bay’ Is An Admirable Miss
At the moment, the found-footage sub-genre is all the rage. No surprise there, considering audiences are still running in droves to see the Paranormal Activity films and most recently, The Devil Inside (much to our dismay). I have no issue with any novelty if it’s used effectively and creatively. The Paranormal Activity franchise, the REC [...] Read More[BD Review] ‘Hellbenders 3D’ Highly Ambitious, Fun Horror
Burrowers director JT Petty returns to Midnight Madness with Hellbenders, a truly entertaining horror comedy that may have been a bit too ambitious. While filled with laughs, and some incredible creature effects, ultimately it’s a bit fragmented from what feels like budgetary constraints. The first act of Hellbenders is incredibly strong as Petty introduces the [...] Read More[BD Review] ‘The ABCs of Death’ A Short Film Festival With Mixed Results
[BD Review] ‘The ABCs of Death’ A Short Film Festival With Mixed Results
Having been to dozens of film festival shorts programs I know just how excruciating they can be. This was my only reservation heading into Magnet’s The ABCs of Death, which premiered at the Midnight Madness portion of the Toronto International Film Festival. When the 2+hour “event” concluded, that’s when my brain really started to hurt. [...] Read More[BD Review] ‘Two Orphan Vampires’ Is Intelligently Satisfying
[BD Review] ‘Two Orphan Vampires’ Is Intelligently Satisfying
Reviewed by Lauren Taylor Simplistic and ominous is how Jean Rollin’s 1997 Les Deux Orphelines Vampire (Two Orphan Vampires) begins. Based on Rollin’s novel of the same name, the simplistic plot follows Henriette and Louise, two young blind girls at the Les Glycines Orphanage who are adopted by an eye specialist, Dr. Dennary, that hopes [...] Read MoreLatest User Reviews
Lovely Molly (limited)
Posted By Scream1210Oct 3, 2012 @ 12:08am
A truly chilling, and terrifying horror film. Its a ghost/possession/possible demonic force movie. We are not quite sure what it is and most of the movie we are not sure if its anything or if Molly is crazy and suffering from extreme trama. It's a slow burn film but it slowly build as we watch this woman's …READ MORE
The Tall Man

What an intelligent little thriller. The main way to describe The Tall Man is DIFFERENT. I loved it. I wasn't expecting any of the surprises I was treated to and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Jessica Biel gives her best performance to date and I was so invested in her character. This is a very …READ MORE
The Last House on the Left (remake)

This is an AMAZING movie and a great remake. The best thing about this movie is the beautiful directing by Dennis Iliadis. His use of colors and his setting for this horrible turn of events turns this from a grisly piece of torture porn into a beautiful piece of art. The acting is this movie is amazing …READ MORE

Jason is back and he is AWESOME! This is a GREAT horror movie and a great addition to the Friday the 13th franchise. Marcus Nispel has proven to be one of my favorite horror movie directors. He understands what makes a good slasher flick. The young cast do a great job and its all to fun to see Jason …READ MORE

NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE IS SAYING! Don't get me wrong there are problems with this movie but it's still a pretty damn good horror movie and worthy of living on Elm street. The Tortured

This movie is pretty good up until the ending. It does have a twist but the real problem with the ending is that nothing is really resolved. Grave Encounters 2

I personally loved the first Grave Encounters and find it way better and creepier than any of the Paranormal Activity films combined, as well as one of the only really good found footage horror films out there. When I saw the trailer for GE2, I figured it may be good, but not as good as the first. After …READ MORE

This had some good moments. But first I want to point out the bad.The opening trap was juvenile and pathetic.Even for Hoffman.Jigsaw wouldn't care about a twenty somethings love triangle. The 3D felt forced and doesn't belong in the Saw universe. For a farewell film it seemed like Jigsaw wasn't even in …READ MORE

THE BEST STRAIGHT TO DVD HORROR MOVIES EVER. Its actually really good for a b monster movie. Its not nearly as good as the first one. But its a really fun horror movie.
