Max Payne 3 $30 DLC pass detailed

Rockstar Games offering a discount for those who buy all its upcoming shooter's new maps, modes, and other content months in advance.

Gamers have been able to preorder Max Payne 3 at retailers for months, but now they can preorder the game's downloadable content as well. Rockstar Games today announced its Rockstar Pass plan for Max Payne 3, which will let players pre-purchase seven add-on packs for the shooter, which launches later this month.

Rockstar Pass preorders for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be available through GameStop and Best Buy beginning today, with Sony also selling the PS3 edition through its PlayStation Network storefront. The pass will sell for $30 (2,400 Microsoft points), which Rockstar describes as more than a 35 percent discount over purchasing all the add-on packs separately (which puts the final a la carte price of the DLC at more than $46). The Rockstar Pass will also be available on the PC for $30.

The first Max Payne 3 DLC will be the Local Justice Map Pack, which includes three maps for four multiplayer modes (Gang Wars, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Payne Killer), multiplayer challenges, and avatar items. That content hits in June.

Max Payne 3 development has been handled by Rockstar Games' Vancouver studio, which took over from Finnish developer Remedy (Alan Wake). The game will incorporate multiplayer into the series for the first time, and the publisher has said it will feature "traditional" multiplayer game modes with full-featured support for character progression, clans, and loadout options.

Max Payne 3 will arrive for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 15 in North America, with a European premiere scheduled for May 18. A PC version of the game will follow in North America on May 29 and in Europe on June 1. The full DLC schedule for the Rockstar Pass follows below.

June 2012
Local Justice Map Pack

Summer 2012
Disorganized Crime Map Pack
Deathmatch Made in Heaven Mode Pack
Hostage Negotiation Map Pack
New York Minute Co-Op Pack

Fall 2012
Painful Memories Map Pack
Trickle Down Economics Map Pack

[CORRECTION]: This article originally stated that the Local Justice map pack contained three maps and three multiplayer modes. It actually contains three maps for use in the game's four multiplayer modes. We regret the error.
