Gran Turismo 5 Tops the Charts With 430,000 Units
PlayStation 3 sees major sales spike, but still fails to beat hot PSP.
In a week full of major releases, Gran Turismo 5 made its expected debut at the top of Media Create's weekly sales charts, causing a spike in PlayStation 3 sales.
GT5 sold 430,707 units in its first week, easily beating fellow newcomers Super Robot Taisen L and Mario Sports Mix. Other newcomers making it into the top 20 included the critically acclaimed Dangan-Ronpa at 8 and the long delayed Trinity Zill O'll Zero at 15.
PlayStation 3 hardware got a big boost from GT5, doubling last week's hardware total to 68,840 units. The racer was released as part of a hardware bundle featuring a blue PS3. Media Create's software figure includes this version of the game as well.
