Why do I need to register?

You can access most of our services without having to register. However, when you do register with Birmingham Post, you'll enjoy a number of valuable benefits:

  • Free e-mail newsletters

  • The ability to comment on, and recommend, articles on Birmingham Post.

  • An online profile page that allows you to interact with Birmingham Post online community.

  • Access to our forum community

  • Access to our blog community

How do I register?

Go to Birminghampost.net. Click on the "Register" link at the top of the page. Complete the registration form that you will be taken to. Ensure that all the details are correct. Hit "Submit".

When you register with Birmingham Post, we will send you an e-mail asking you to confirm the e-mail address you gave us during the registration process. The e-mail we send you will contain a link to a web page. Click on the link, or cut and paste it into your browser and you will be shown a page confirming that your registration details are now finalised and your account has been confirmed.

The confirmation process allows us to establish that the e-mail address is genuine, and that you didn't make a mistake when entering it. It is essential that we have your correct e-mail address in case we need to contact you.

Logging in

How do I log in?

Go to Birminghampost.net. Click on the "Log In" link at the top right of the page. Submit your username and password.

What do I do if I forget my password?

If you forget your password, you can ask for a reminder when you log in. Just click on the "Forgot your password?" link on the Login page, enter the e-mail address you registered with, and we will send a new password to that e-mail address immediately. You can then use that password to log in. See below for details on how to change your password.

Please note: for security reasons, we cannot send your password to any other e-mail address except the one that you registered with.

If you have any other problems with logging in to the site, please e-mail community@birminghampost.net.

How do I change my e-mail address?

To change the e-mail address you use to log in to Birmingham Post, please log in to your account at Birminghampost.net and select "Your account" to view your account details. On this page you will see that your old e-mail address has automatically populated the "Your email address" field - simply replace this with the new email address and hit "Submit".

You will receive a confirmation e-mail to your new address to verify that the change has taken place.

How do I change my password?

To select a new password, please log in to your account at Birminghampost.net and select "Your account" to view your account details. On this page you can reset your password by submitting your new password, confirming the password and then hitting "Submit".

My "Change my password" or "Forgot your password" e-mail has not been e-mailed to me.

Reset passwords are sent via e-mail within minutes of your request. Some e-mail systems may 'quarantine' these e-mailed passwords. Please check with your e-mail/spam filters to make sure the reset password e-mail has not been blocked by your software.

How do I update my details?

To update your Birmingham Post account information, please log in to your account at Birminghampost.net and select "Your account" to view your account details.

On the 'My Account' page, you can:

  • change your e-mail address (you will be asked to validate your new e-mail address)

  • change your password

  • subscribe or unsubscribe to newsletters

  • add to the information you have given us

When you change your information, we will ask you to confirm the change before finalising it. This is because it may affect other services you receive from us. For example: if you change your e-mail address, any e-mail services you receive will be sent to the NEW address.

We recommend that you visit the 'Your Account' page every now and then to ensure that the information you have provided is up to date.

Why can't I change my username?

Sorry, unfortunately this functionality is not possible. The username is your unique identifier, and cannot be changed once you have chosen it. So, make sure you choose carefully when you select your username.

Why do you want my postcode details?

By collecting our user's postcodes we can target content that is most relevant to them. For more details please read our Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account at any time by emailing Birminghampost.net with your request.

Newsletters

How do I register to receive newsletters?

Birmingham Post offers a variety of free e-mail newsletters about news, politics and current events.

To sign up for our newsletters, please register on our site and create your free account. During the registration process, you may select which newsletters you'd like to receive by checking the box next to each item.

If you have already registered and would like to sign up for our newsletters you can do so by logging in to your account, going to the "Your Account" page and updating your newsletter registration details by selecting the newsletters you would like to subscribe to.

How do I manage my newsletters subscriptions?

Log in to your account at Birminghampost.net. You can update your newsletter preferences on the "Your Account" page.

Why am I not receiving my newsletter?

If you do not receive a validation or confirmation e-mail from Birmingham Post, it is likely that your Internet Service Provider or desktop e-mail software is filtering or blocking mail from Birmingham Post. Make sure to check your spam or junk mail folder to see if the e-mail isn't there.

How do I unsubscribe from newsletters?

You can unsubscribe from our newsletters by clicking on the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of the e-mail newsletter. Alternatively, you can also log in to your account at Birminghampost.net, go to the "Your Account" page and uncheck the newsletter you would like to unsubscribe from.

How do I post comments on Birmingham Post?

Birmingham Post welcomes your thoughts, comments and arguments.

To post comments to Birmingham Post articles or participate in our online debates, you must first register on the site and create a Username. Your Username will appear alongside anything you post to Birmingham Post and will be linked to your public profile.

If you do not have an Birmingham Post account, please register with Birmingham Post and create your free account. Once you are a registered member you can immediately start posting comments on the site.

Why can't I comment on an article even though I have logged in?

If you have previously registered only for newsletters, you were not required to have a Username. In order to post a comment we require you to use a Username. Please log in and update your details in the "Your Account" section.

What happens to article comments on my persona page after Birmingham Post archives the article I commented on?

Your comments will still show up on your persona page no matter where the article is archived to.

How do I report an abusive member of Birmingham Post community?

You don't have to be signed in to report an abusive comment or an abusive member. If you would like to report an abusive comment or user click on the link "Report this user" or "Report Abuse" alongside the offending user's name or comment.

Alternatively email Birmingham Post at community@birminghampost.net.
