Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 came into effect on 1 January 2005.

The Act gives any person, of any nationality, anywhere in the world the right to request official information from public authorities. This right is subject to certain exemptions.

All Departments have publication schemes that list the information they produce. You can also request information that is not on the publication scheme. 10 Downing Street is covered by the Cabinet Office Publication Scheme (opens in new window).
