Directions to the House of the Academy*
The House of the Academy is located at 136 Irving Street on five-and-a-half wooded acres on the Cambridge/Somerville line. PLEASE NOTE that the vehicle entrance to the Academy is at 200 Beacon Street, Somerville, Massachusetts. The Porter Square train stop is a 15-minute walk for those coming by subway. From North of Boston (via Rte. 93)
Take I-93 south to exit 26, Storrow Drive. Proceed about 4 miles to the Harvard Square exit. Turn right onto JFK Street. Continue through four lights to Harvard Square You should see the Out of Town newsstand on your right. Continue following directions under Harvard Square, below.
From West of Boston (via Mass. Turnpike)
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) east to exit 18 (a left exit), Cambridge/Allston. After the toll booth, bear right towards the Cambridge exit. At the second set of lights--just before the bridge--turn left onto Storrow Drive. Proceed about 1/2 mile to the Harvard Square exit. Turn right onto JFK Street. Continue through four lights to Harvard Square. You should see the Out of Town newsstand on your right. Continue following directions under Harvard Square, below.
From Logan Airport
Take airport loop road to Sumner Tunnel exit. Go through tunnel, and exit to I-93 North. Take I-93 north to exit 26, Storrow Drive. Proceed about 4 miles to the Harvard Square exit. Turn right onto JFK Street. Continue through four lights to Harvard Square. You should see the Out of Town newsstand on your right. Continue following directions under Harvard Square, below.
From South of Boston (via Rte. 93)

From Northwest of Boston (via Rte. 2)
Take Route 2 East until the highway portion ends. Bear right and continue through the lights, remaining on Route 2. You should pass the T station/garage on your right. Go over the bridge. At the rotary, continue on Route 2 East by taking the second exit. At the next rotary, take the first exit, continuing on Route 2. After the large intersection with Mt. Auburn Street, watch for signs to Memorial Drive. You will have to bear left to get onto Memorial Drive. At the first light, turn left onto JFK Street. Continue through three lights to Harvard Square. You should see the Out of Town newsstand on your right. Continue following directions under Harvard Square, below.
From Boston (via Massachusetts Ave.)
Follow Massachusetts Avenue (route 2A) to Harvard Square. When you reach Harvard Square, you will see the Out of Town newsstand on your left, and the road will bend sharply to the right. The road will fork, bear left onto Mt. Auburn Street. Take first left onto JFK Street. Continue following directions under Harvard Square, below.
From Porter Square
Take Somerville Avenue (southeast) one-quarter mile to the blinking traffic light. Turn right over the bridge onto Beacon Street. Follow Beacon Street about one-half mile. You will see signs for American Academy of Arts and Sciences on the right. The vehicle entrance is 200 Beacon Street.*
Harvard Square
After passing the Out of Town newsstand, stay to the right. After the next light, the road will fork. Bear right and go through the tunnel. The road will fork again; a fire station is located in the middle of this fork. Bear to the left and take the first left onto Quincy Street. At the next light take a right onto Kirkland Street. Follow Kirkland street to the first set of lights at the intersection of Kirkland Street and Beacon Street. Take a left onto Beacon Street. Follow Beacon Street about ¼ of a mile and you will see signs for American Academy of Arts and Sciences on the left. The vehicle entrance is 200 Beacon Street.*

Subway
From Park Street: Take the Red Line toward Alewife and
get off at Porter Square. Exit through the right-hand doors of the train
station (you should see CVS on the opposite side of the street) and turn right
down Somerville Avenue for one block. Turn right onto Beacon Street and cross
over the bridge. The Academy will be a 10- to 15-minute walk on your right just
past Star Market.
From the Airport: Take the Blue Line inbound from Logan to Government
Center. Switch to the Green Line inbound for one stop, exiting at Park Street
station. Switch one more time to the Red Line heading toward Alewife and get
off at the Porter Square Stop. Follow the walking directions above.
Silver Line Directions: Take the Silver Line
either to South Station or Downtown Crossing (depending on point of origin) and
then transfer to the Red Line. Take the Red Line toward Alewife and get off at
Porter Square. Follow the walking directions above.
